tma gustav’s most obvious entity tie is the eye because he belongs to an organization who’s secret symbol is literally an eye and he carries around a spyglass with that symbol on it, but he’s actually pretty heavily marked by the desolation as a result of both the firefighter vs firestarter conflict and the way the vfd loves to ruin the lives of it’s members so they’re stuck in a cycle of dragging other people into it and giving up their times and often their lives for a honestly stupid cause. he’s also marked by the web bc of a bad ex gf and the buried because he was nearly drowned to death, but miraculously he hasn’t become an avatar he just keeps on keeping on

gustav has a wheel in his bedroom wall amidst all the other crap and he spins it every morning to decide whether to pine for his best friend and partner in crime of many years or his lovable mustachioed boss. it always lands in the middle

i’m back on here because i realized how much work i’ve done on developing gustav by researching film history should probably be put towards something lol

citizen kane is the one movie olaf seems to have seen (as he says in the end of zombies in the snow)  and the one movie gustav made a musical about, but olaf also says “i wish all the townspeople had eaten each other at the end like in citizen kane” which either implies that he’s never seen citizen kane or the only version he’s seen is gustav’s musical version that he added zombies into because gustav likes zombies.
