TOADSTOOL 🍄🐸
(SOLD)
So this design was a sort of last minute idea that I think turned out pretty well!! Shoutout to anyone who's a mushroom enjoyer, I hope y'all like this piece!!
This was made using a thrifted wooden plate and posca markers.
Hello!! I asked that question about Archie Sonic's popularity a bit ago, I have another question if you don't mind!! ...How much misogyny is in the Archie Sonic series as a whole?
Part of what really sparked my interest in finally reading the Sonic comics (aside from Archie's bizarre lore that I can't help but find really entertaining) is seeing that they actually utilize the girls (and have plenty of girls exclusive to them), while the games primarily just use Amy and very rarely Rouge and Cream... But reading through the first few Archie issues (I'm on issue 10), there have been a few stories where Sally is portrayed as fussy and wrong, and winds up needing to be saved by Sonic. And outside of that she hasn't gotten to do much... And while Bunnie is very cool when she gets to shine, she doesn't show up much either despite being part of the team...
The early shitpost gag comics have largely been entertaining reads IMO, and I will always like how Sally is the leader rather than Sonic (it's not only refreshing for a girl to be the leader of the team, but I also find Sonic being a delinquent a much more interesting take on him then if he was just a typical goody two shoes super hero type character). But so far the girls have got to do very little... And I'm aware of the misogyny Penders will bring later on, as well as stuff like the abysmal handling of Dulcy being an abuse survivor, which makes me worry that this might not be a problem the comic grows out of...
How much of the Archie comics are burdened with misogynistic writing? And if I were to try avoiding it, what arcs would I need to avoid? (I understand if you don't feel like answering the latter in particular, seeing how big Archie Sonic is)
I hope I'm not being a pest and I apologize if I am!! Thank you for reading and have a good day :]
Uhh... it's a lot lol. It's one of the main problems with the series. I have written many thousands of words on @thankskenpenders over the years about how poorly the Archie comics handled their female characters. It's not all bad, and there are occasional bits of greatness, or at least half-hearted attempts at "girl power" stories where the girls get to do more. But in a way that potential the comics' many female heroes show just makes the lows more frustrating.
I can't really give a list of specific arcs to skip because Gallagher and Penders' extremely boomer views on gender roles permeate their writing in both subtle and glaringly obvious ways, and while Bollers is generally better later on he's still saddled with a lot of really stupid editorial directives about soap opera bullshit to do with the girls. It really only gets consistently better when Ian Flynn takes over 160 issues in.
thank goodness for Ian Flynn.
A cosmic tribute to my current favourite comment in YouTube history

Some good news
the justification when law enforcement kills someone for no particular reason always boils down to “we got really really scared, you should feel bad for us because we were sososo scared” ok. piss yourself or scream or something. why is killing someone the only option
American cops are very badly programmed. Gun is the only interaction they have.
You forgot texting their buddies pictures of decomposing murder victims, saying heinously racist and/or misogynistic stuff and ‘accidentally’ turning off their body cameras.
Sorry whats this about texting pictures of murder victims???
i've never liked anyone this much before
I had a dream about Columbo at a drag show. This is what came from it.
I'm waiting for him to explain to me how his newfound love of drag allowed him to prove I killed my business partner

I saw a post on a terf blog before I blocked it from someone being like "Ummm is anybody else really concerned about the rise of antisocial kinks like pissing" and it made me laugh so hard I almost did a little antisocial kink myself

"A planned community in Arizona has used time-honored Mediterranean strategies to keep temperatures down and attitudes high.
Western civilization has grown remarkably climate conscious over the last 20 years, but not when it comes to building, civic planning, and especially zoning. Perhaps the interiors of buildings are becoming more climate adapted, and in some cases the facades as well, but in a way that’s a little like inventing a freezer designed to keep ice cream frozen while sitting next to a fire.
Wooden or concrete boxes arranged side-by-side across leveled ground with sprawling, largely treeless gardens and concrete sidewalks alongside wide, blacktop roads is simply a culture of construction that has to be abandoned if living in a world of 2°C or higher annual temperatures [or, hopefully, less than that, but nonetheless likely over 1.5°C] is to be tolerable.
Fortunately for Arizonans, change may have finally arrived in the form of a carless, planned community that looks and feels like a Greek island village.
In the Phoenix suburb of Tempe, Culdesac has arisen as a 17-acre mixed-use neighborhood from the ground up to stay cool and local, taking the concept of the 15-minute city, where anything a resident might need is only 15 minutes away, and putting a Mediterranean spin on it.
Buildings are tall, thick, and totally white. The residential areas look like they were built atop of the ashes of the Phoenix zoning code burnt in effigy. Crammed together, they create narrow streets and alleys that are almost constantly shaded, through which wind is channeled and accelerated in passing.
Windows open towards each other, allowing wind that enters one building to exit into another, while the total lack of asphalt means that the ground temperatures are a staggering 50-60°F lower than pavements beyond the limits of Culdesac.
No privately-owned cars are allowed to enter the neighborhood, in which electric bikes, robotic mini taxis, and light rail shuttle people around town, to downtown Phoenix, or out to the airport.
The street life is lively—there are no cars to bisect movement between the 21 different businesses and eateries, among which is a James Beard Award-winning Mexican restaurant, DIY ceramic business, and some stores run out of apartments—a big no-no under Phoenix zoning laws.
“Once you pull the cars out,” Architect Daniel Parolek who designed Culdesac, told BBC, “there’s so much more opportunity to make a vibrant, thriving community.”
His inspiration was sun-soaked locales like Italy, Greece, and Croatia, where town centers were designed before the automobile and before air conditioning.
Technically speaking, the entire Culdesac neighborhood is one apartment complex, but the paseos, or little alleyways, open up into plazas of open space exactly liked one would expect in a little village in the Cyclades.
Because no one has to jump in a car to get from place to place, people run into each other, sparking conversations, relations, and breaking through the counterintuitive phenomenon of big city loneliness, which in Phoenix hits particularly hard.
“Culdesac Tempe has shown that people do want to live car-free in the US, even in a metro area like Phoenix that’s often seen as the poster child for car dependency,” says Erin Boyd, Culdesac’s government relations and external affairs lead. “This success has shifted the conversation around what’s possible in American development.”

Collins is gone.
Namaygoosisagagun First Nation/Collins has burned to the ground. The entire community is nothing but ashes after being quickly consumed by wildfires. They did not have any support from emergency services, and no one offered aid. The community saved themselves by escaping into boats because no one came.
Mishkeegogamang and Cat Lake have lost power. Families are ending up in shelters with nothing. Armstrong, Lac La Croix, Whitesand, Gull Bay, Lac des Mille Lacs are currently in the fires path and all members are being evacuated.
All this loss, all this devastation, and it was entirely preventable.
After steadily underfunding wildland firefighting and purposefully excluding Indigenous wildland firefighters and Indigenous wildfire organizations from wildfire operations, firefighter training, decisionmaking, and resource exchanges, in 2025, Doug Ford slashed the forest firefighting budget.
It's hard to ignore his decision to cut funding and leave us out of adequate fire training (even though we've lived with forest fires for thousands of years—far longer than settlers have been in Canada—and made sure fires like the ones we're all seeing today were prevented through kinisitotēn) when, despite making up less than 5% of the population, we account for 42% percent of all wildfire evacuations in Canada.
And when we are successfully evacuated, we face discrimination and racism—like Kashechewan—because it's always been easier to blame us than it is to blame the true culprit: denialism, corportate greed, and colonization.
The people of Collins and every other impacted community deserve better.
Right now, the AFN is currently accepting donations to help Collins First Nation. If you're able to, please consider donating.
ONWA (Ontario Native Women's Association) is another great place to donate to. They have outreach vans going to motels and inns and offering food, water, resources, and cultural support to those impacted by the wildfires.
Other places to consider donating to are Mikinakoos Emergency Fund, Red Cross, True North Aid, Indigenous Climate Action. You can also send donations directly to Whitesand First Nation via e-transfer ([email protected]) and they request that you add your full name in the e-transfer comment section to receive a tax receipt.
*Before sending money, verify that the appeal appears on an official First Nation, Tribal Council or registered charity channel.
If you can't offer financial support, please consider donating items of need. Moontime Connections is currently accepting drop-off donations. If you live in the Thunder Bay area, Namaygoosisagagun Health Office is also taking in donations! They can also bemailed to Superior Inn Hotel & Conference Centre at 555 West Arthur Street, Thunder Bay, ON, P7E 5P8.
items needed are: food, diapers, medical masks, men’s and women’s joggers (all sizes), children’s clothing (newborn to size 14), children’s shoes, summer clothing, men’s clothing, toiletries (lotion, Vaseline, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, conditioner, soap, deodorant, etc.), strollers, adult depends-all sizes, dog & cat food
