You know what's really hilarious ? I started writing a post, not really a rant, just a few thoughts and then I said, nah, not gonna post it today, don't need to.
I should have know the drama wouldn't rest. I should have known !
Mind you, I didn't expect the artist himself would say something.
But considering how people were once again blowing shit out of proportion I should have guessed it would come to this.
I'm not going to guess as to why exactly he did decide to say something now because he is an adult and that's his own goddamn decision.
I will say a couple of things tho.
First, there's no doubt he came on twitter because he saw the clusterfuck that twitter was and this really infuriates me. I'm not talking about the issue itself (like there was some validity to it but turns out people were also talking out of their asses), I'm talking about how people forgot in such a small fandom (because it is still somewhat small), shit is going to be seen. And we've seen time and time again, they had to address shite either directly or indirectly, and yet people still do the same shite, thinking just because it's on twitter, it's fine. Nope, they're going to see your shit and it'd be nice if you could think about that sometimes instead of riding on your fucking high horse.
Second, this is what pretend-managering leads to. I'm not defending the company (because again not giving a fuck about it) but you're trying to insert yourself in a discussion in which you don't have all the facts but you think you do, and because you don't like one of the party (which btw I don't care who you like/hate/whatever but when it comes to this shit ?? please), you think yo do ? You end up in those situation. This is literally why I hate mantis.
Third, for all the bitching and moaning about how [not going to name] need to self-reflect, the lack of self-reflection from your group of people, holy shit it's a m a z i n g ?!!! Like, not even gonna address the fact that your bitching got so loud he noticed ? Not gonna address the fact that hey, in the end, you were fucking wrong about it ? Not gonna address the fact that he said exactly the same thing and the only reason you accept it is that it comes from him ? Oh but no, you say it's about phrasing and how he puts it ? I call bullshit. For two reasons, one is that you always say phrasing doesn't matter when it comes to YOUR bitching (because people have been calling your collective ass on it), and two, we know exactly what you like in his phrasing. (which may seem like a criticism of him, which it absolutely isn't, he's just being sweet because that's what he is <3).
You're all out there, saying thank you for saying exactly the same shit said before, simultaneously patting yourself on the back for no reason, and whining that he shouldn't have had to say anything. It's really kind amazing the lack of self-reflecting, honestly.
I laughed at it. Twitter never disappoint in terms of showing me these kind of people, people who would be laughed at IRL.
But don't worry, tomorrow, everyone will be retweeting each other without a second thought because that fandom has the memory of a goldfish, apparently.
And now what about today ?
You'd think after yesterday, and the fact the artist himself had to come on twitter, that group of people would have learned their lesson right ? I mean, if you hadn't seen their stupid-ass reaction to said tweet, you would assume that because that would be what common sense dictates.
But this is forgetting this is twitter, and this is a group of people that has their head so far up their own asses they've taken spelunking as their day job.
So no, lesson was learned at all. They still think they were right to blow it out of proportions so hard the artist had to explain it. They think they're totally blameless in this, and that the artist was somewhat forced. Because as is common amongst mantis, taking away one's fave agence when it suits is a 100% a thing, becaue treating your artist like a goddamn child is part and parcel of it. Some are actually literally ignoring him after being part of a drama, which, is, wow, being such a two-faced shitstirrer incapable of admitting they were wrong. I am side-eyeing the fuck out of those who that.
Since the lesson wasn't learned, guess what we got more of today ? More bitching ! About something else ! Bitching that could, once again, be seen and have negative consequences but who cares ? ME FAN ME ANGRY
(literally wat)
(also absolutely hilarious that someone dared to say they wouldn't say anything about [today's drama topic] because they didn't know anything, and I'm like, bitch it didn't prevent from opening your big fat mouth before did it)
And ofc it is ALWAYS the same EXACT same account, who seemed to have this idea that they're part of the team. Sorry, hun, you're not.
I mean, yesterday was particularly illuminating in a way.
These people, that part of fandom, they are acting in a very similar way to BTS solos mantis, and ain't that a terrifying comparison.
They decided for some reason that as fans, they wouldn't stay in their lane and they would get involved in the managing of their own artists. They've decided that although they will never have all the facts it can't mean they should saty silent at times, no, on the contrary, it means they should be louder.
(I mean, I could talk about the fact that some of them demand information they don't need or shouldn't have because they somehow feel entitled to it)
And they're so deep in that mentality of 'I should be a manager and I will shout loud and clear what I think is right regardless of you know, the fact they're adults and can make their own decisions, regardless of the impact the clusterfuck I will create will have.', that they literally do not care about that impact. Ofc, they will deny it high and loud, they will say that they care so much about them, that they want the best for them and that's why they're suh dicks at time, but the truth is a little different.
Someone said it on twitter and they nailed it on the head. These people have such a disdain for the company and everyone involved in said company that they lost all objectivity/self-reflection. They're mired so deep into their negativity they can't see further than their own hate. Even when it comes to valid issues and valid questions, it has to devolve into a hatefest because that's what they're stuck on. And it leads to what happened yesterday.
And this is what I started writing about yesterday but didn't post. Why is there so much negativity in that fandom, why do we only have a couple of days of peace before it explodes again, why does it always come from the same people.
I wonder.
Is it because they're so deep into that manti mindset that they don't realise or don't care about the impact it has, not only on the fandom (unwelcoming, not fun), but on the very same people they say they're trying to protect ? Do they even think about the artist coming home after a good day, wanting to see if the fans had as much fun as he did, and wham bam, another drama, with some fans being assholes, do you think that makes him happy ? Especially since he said before he wished people on socmed would think before posting. Do you they enjoy your constant negativity ? I mean, BTS are lucky in the sense that since the fandom is massive, mantis and solos behaviours can be drowned, but if they'eve ever been unlucky enough to see some of the hashtags trended by assholes, I feel sad for them. But in this fandom, it is a smaller fandom and they will see your shite, I said it before, they will, and that will have an impact of them, and are you so far up your own asses you can't see that ? Is your saviour complex so strong that it overrides sense ?
Or, and this is something I've wondering for a short while, and it's something I've seen other mention too, and it may sound a little paranoid, are there bad faith actors in the fandom ? People who are fans or pretending to be fans actually trying to create drama, actively trying to make the fandom a negative space ? Antis disguised as fans ? Solos disguised as fans of both ? Because sometimes the timing is too good to be true, just before we have to trend something, or when the day has been a good day and wham bam, suddenly negativity on the tl. I don't know. I do think there are people that do create that negativity on purpose, but what I think the most is there are people who will jump and follow at the slightest hint of negativity, they won't create it but they will wait for it and follow. They'll still think they're doing good in their own weirdass logic.
Like I said, strikingly similar behaviour to BTS solos mantis, and all the more disheartening for it. And all the more unwelcoming for it.
The saddest thing, there are some valid issues that could be discussed, like normal people, without entitlement, without thinking you know everything, there are grievances that should be heard. In the end, this all gets drowned in the drama, in the bitching about trivial shite, in the pretend-managering, in the patting on the back of the saviour complex.
That's the saddest thing.
Because I'm not a fan of the people who wants to sweep everything under the rug either. I get annoyed with them sometimes but it never blows up the way the negavity does. Because I'm seeing more nuanced takes on that side than the other, because I don't see them QRT to brigade either. There are still some I want to shake because they're as bad as some on the other side though.
(bruh this is long :|)
I know I have said before but I really, really don't like this way of being a fan.
Lesson was definitely not fucking learned at all.
Well, it's been a couple of days since I had to rant...
3 in the morning, I should not be checking twitter, ugh.
I don't why I keep expecting decency on twitter when I KNOW it's a goddamn cesspool.
I don't why I keep expecting people not to be willfully dense motherfuckers because I KNOW people are fucking incapable of admitting any wrongs.
I don't know why I expect people not to be entitled fucks because I KNOW twitter exacerbates fan entitlement.
Fine, keep defending shitty behaviour because it's aimed at someone you hate, that makes a fucking morally bankrupt asshole, even though you think yourself as a saviour.
Fine, keep making it looks like to sane people that don't actually care about the people you say you stan, as long as you can get a dig in.
What matters is that you can laughed about with your asshole mates.
You know what's really hilarious ? I started writing a post, not really a rant, just a few thoughts and then I said, nah, not gonna post it today, don't need to.

Short rant or rambling. I'd qualify it as the latter because it's not really angry ?
It is a weird situation this fandom. Because I'm always somewhat in the middle, usually side-eyeing both sides because they can be pretty extreme at time.
A bit like BTS/Army but it feels less weird there because it's more expected in a big fandom, and it's easier to avoid it. This is more niche and smaller and it's definitely more annoying.
As a rule, I abhor mantis with a passion. Fans who turn themselves into managers for their faves should go outside, touch grass and stay in their lane. Not out of any loyalty from me to companies or sth, but you're a fan, and as a fan, stay in your lane. And it usually devolves into absolute bullshit. BTS mantis, and solos mantis are the best example of why they should get to fuck.
(also they usually are completely wrong about stuff.)
The weirdness of this specific situation here, is that as much as I hate mantis, the truth is, at least some of the issues are valid, and should be called out. And again, no loyalty from me to the company, no defending because I don't give a fuck. Even if you can explain some of the issues, there is always room to improve.
So, I'm in this weird situation, when it's 'please stop pretending you're their goddamn managers' but it's 'but you're not wrong about this though.' And sometimes, it's 'well done blowing up something inconsequential into a drama', but it could also be 'you're right why the fuck did they do this'.
It's kind of game where you have valid complaints I won't disagree with, but at the same time, there's also bullshit complaints that get given way too much importance. It's the 'Boy who cried Wolf' comparison I talked about before. It means negativity and drama all around, it means people being sick of drama and tuning everything out instead of listening to the valid ones.
I'm at the stage when I do roll my eyes at the drama a lot, especially when it's the same group of people always complaining, and though some complaints are valid (I feel like I need to repeat this, least I be called a company stan huh-huh), when you've seen the same person pretend-managering about trivial shite, you're less likely to take them seriously about anything else. And it's always the same people, I don't even need to mute them to remember who they are, I just know who they are.
(Mind you, there are some people on the other side, who annoy me just as well, because they will NOT accept any complaint, valid or not. (not talking about people not wanting drama). I'm talking about people not wanting to see the issues. And there are fair few of them. Don't need to mute them either, because I know them.)
(And ofc there are people like me, in the middle, fwbs with the fence and usually sick of the drama, or at least aware that twitter drama is not good for the artists.)
I mean, writing down actually makes it pretty clear, as far as I am concerned, now that I am re-reading what I wrote, and thinking on it.
The crux of the issue is simple :
+ I've seen those same ppl bitch and moan about silly shite too many times before, acting like managers, actually making lists of demands, making frankly stupid tweets, and refusing to admit they were wrong at times.
+ I have a visceral reaction to them because of that and because complaints have been used too many times to deny artists their agency (basically, I've seen people arguing that [...] were only doing [...] because they were forced, which is frustrating to read, because there's no way to know, but they ony say it when it's something they disagree with. Me, personally I don't know and I won't ever know probably)
So even if I agree with the overall point (like today), my instinctive reactive is to roll my eyes and be annoyed, because, it'd be nice if we could be drama-free for longer instead of diving immediately into another issue. Which is ofc bad when it comes to a valid issue. Because I'll fully admit, if there hadn't been such a clusterfuck of a drama earlier in the week, I would have just nodded along with today's complaint, instead of going 'here comes the bitch squad again' in ly head. Because again, exact same group of
people.
(also I noticed that some of those fans are retweeting/propping up fans that were on the wrong side of the 'flirting with them' discussion, which considering how much of a big drama it was at the time, makes me side-eye the fuck out of them for casually reblogging the same people they were yelling earlier. But I think it's kind of a think in this fandom to do, retweeting people you were fighting with before, which is kind of weird, because it's never casual, it's always pretty bad. I'm pretty baffled at that. Like that person thought your opinion was absolute trash and mocked you but you're casually retweeting their tweets ? oKAY THEN)
in the end, I do agree that the company should do better, they have room to improve, and it would be moronic to keep on making mistakes because it is hurting their own artists, but let's not forget that ultimatelysaid artists are grown ups and will make their own decisions, without the fans' input. It's quite a thin line between wanting better for your artists and actually becoming a manti.
And now that's a rant. Ugh.
Ugh. And now yesterday's issue has blown up, because someone decided they would do their usual prevaricating, hoping to end the drama but it actually made it worse. Like, genuinely. It takes talent to self-sabotage yourself that expertly, like, wow.
I'm genuinely baffled at how well they fucked up, like damn.
Because talk about not really addressing the issues, finding lame excuses and then try to distract people with unrelated stuff. It's actually painful to watch.
I can't even be pissed at the usual bitch squad because they [the someone] brought it on themselves this time.
Now ofc that doesn't mean that some people aren't going overboard with it, because ofc some people are, some people really don't think things through and they end up posting shite they should be posting. And well, yikes. You just hope certain people won't be reading those.
In a reversal situation, I'm actually getting increasingly annoyed with the opposite side (aka the defending side), because this time, honestly, there's nothing defendable ? But some people are outright defending or subtly defending, and I'm like, why do I have such a vested interest in defending that someone, it's kind of super weird ? Like, it's not going to kill you to recognise that this time they fucked up ??? To the point of people outside of the fandom pointing it out ?
(there's also the people that are so done with the everyday drama that they are doing their utmost to ignore it, which I can't blame them for, because I knew this was going to happen, too much drama, people are sick of it, and now that there's a big issue, they don't want to see it any of it :\)
(apparently some other people have decided to bitch about some trivial shite as well. And I just want to shake em because really ???)
This fandom is such a weird experience, honestly.
Short rant or rambling. I'd qualify it as the latter because it's not really angry ?

It's quite a thin line between wanting better for your artists and actually becoming a manti.
me : ugh i'm sick of the drama
also : let me continue watching the drama
Forever in that 'I don't disagree with you, hell I agree with 80% of what you say, but boy do you fucking get on my tits' zone at the moment.
Not a rant (tho I'll still tag it as such)
Same subject, new issue.
This time, I'm baffled. Not at the fandom, because I understand why this is an issue, and it hasn't blown out of control yet.
I'm baffled because there was a simple way this could have been avoided. I'm baffled because this makes no sense ?
Common sense would tell me this is incompetence more than anything because why would you do this purposefully ? Either way, it kind of is self-sabotage ? You're making things worse when you could have avoided it. It was bound to create an issue, and it is a valid one.
I just don't get it. It really reeks of self-sabotage.
Aaaaaand I jinxed it...
Some people are starting to be way overdramatic about this :|

I'd apologise for all the ranting but I NEED to rant.
And I'd rather rant here than on Twitter.
Don't think anyone still reading that tumblr tbh, but just in case, all these rants will have the same tag 'twitter rant on tumblr' if people want to avoid them.

I am genuinely laughing at people telling others to take accountability for what they say when I've NEVER EVER seen them do the same, even when they should have.
Absolutely hilarious.
Head so far up your own ass you can't see.

Big rant under the cut
honestly this is going to be a tad incoherent because I'm too pissed to try and organise my thoughts
and yes this is a sort of a follow up to the previous 'rant' posts and the unending complaints about stupid shit
because yes this is about people complaining about stupid shit
again
and it blew up again
and there's two points I have to rant about :
first, and foremost, yes, people, the absolute shite you spit on twitter will have an impact, you're on social media, you're not in your community, you know perfectly well fandoms are watched, so you know what you say has a chance of being read, especially when you're in a smaller fandom and you will have a bigger footprint if you have a certain amount of followers,
so yes, you're not tweeting to the wind, your posts will have a certain reach, and you know that, because you post to be heard in the first place, but then when there's talk about possible negative consequences of constant drama, suddenly, oh no we can't talk about that, it's a threat, it's being manipulative ??? No, it's telling you something that can actually happen, it's very real possibility, but you'd rather see it as a threat because that means you don't need to reflect on your behaviour.
(because yes, a fandom that is constantly negative, and complain all the time is not good optics for a brand, as much as we'd like to say any publicity is good publicity it is not the case)
also not the first time people have been told to be careful of how they post on twitter but nope this is still happening and those people, the same people, the same group of people still act the same, absolutely not getting it
and again this is not about valid complaints because there are a fair few amount of those that NEED to be CALLED OUT but i'm talking about the daily drama about the stupid shit you think you have to MICROMANAGE all the time
this is what I hate in fandom on social media
people micromanaging all the time
thinking they are their artists' managers and their opinion has to be shared and heard and agreed with
(and gods forbid if you don't because the insults)(i'll be fair and say there are insults both way tho)
(i hate mantis so much)
which leads to my second point
STOP PROJECTING YOUR THOUGHTS/WANTS/FEELINGS ON THEM
Just because you don't want something, don't like something, doesn't mean they don't either
doesn't mean that they're being forced to do it
doesn't mean that they're puppets
doesn't mean they don't want to do it
something i feel like people don't listen to the people they claim to be a fan of, and they just ignore what they say when it doesn't fit THEIR view
just because you don't like someone doesn't mean they don't like that person as well. you don't have to like them but don't project it on them
i hate how they deny them agency when it fits them, when they do something they don't like, it's 'oh they must have been forced' or 'there's no way they would done that' or 'it must be [...]'s fault' instead of, y'know, it could be their choice and it's them you disagree with ?
like they can have and make their own decisions
and sometimes you will not like that decision
but it still could be their own decision
because you know they are actually are adults
with their own agency
nah, that would be too easy.
(the irony of that specific criticism (denying them agency) being one we justifiably lob at antis but they turn out and behave the same...)
I am not done yet
huh
*sighs*
And now we've reached the 'bully people I disagree with' part of the show.
(including bullying their friend, well done peeps)
From both sides tbh, though I gotta say one side is being more vile than the other... (like i've only seen one side use a certain word)
And when you're somewhat in the middle, how fun.
Honestly, the fandom is so fucking toxic rn, it's doing more harm than good, I fucking hope they're not anywhere on twitter at the moment.
(also I wonder if the people that were saying they're not being, still think they're not rn)
it is scary that some people don't realise the way they're being behaving right is vile and toxic and they think it's okay to behave the way they do
it's like they forget there are people on the other side ???
anyway :|
just a short add-on I noticed...
One side, when they talked about the issue, most of the time, they won't qrt, they won't mention anyone in particular, they'll speak in general terms, not singling anyone out.
The other side, there's always going to be at least one who will qrt those posts, and I don't want to be uncharitable there, and maybe they just want to address it directly, that's fine but I can't help but think they either want to 'expose' them, or they want to be brigaded ??? I know it's uncharitable because if you post a public post everyone will see it anyway but the difference in behaviour between the two sides in that regard is rather peculiar...
In the words of Elsa,
LET IT FUCKING GO
how is this still ongoing
how are you still whining
is this a kink or deep-seated martyr complex
do you revel in the negativity you keep dragging everyone into
do you revel in the absolute bullshit you're making to make yourself righteous ?
*screams*
THE HYPOCRISY
HOLY SHITE
Like I don't give a fuck whatsoever
but I'm fucking laughing at them
