life  ...  had  taken  a  turn  for  the  worst.  something  prince  never  expected  to  happen.  or  rather,  none  of  them  did.  the  entire  town  had  been  in  shock  for  the  most  part.  they'd  had  this  peaceful  perfect  life  &  then  suddenly  it  all  went  to  shit.  the  barrier  that  always  protected  them...  didn't,  their  people  kidnapped,  tortured  &  murdered  ...  the  chunks  of  town  in  ruins..  nothing  was  as  it  had  been  anymore.

prince  moved  out  of  home  after  he  found  out  his  big  brother  died  &  instead,  he  moved  in  with  nathan  -  who  was  probably  the  only  person  in  all  of  new  haven  who'd  understand  him.  losing  the  most  important  person  in  your  life...  hurt.  unimaginably  so.  this  way  he  could  help  out  with  the  kids,  too.  nathan  clearly  couldn't  handle  them  alone.  he  couldn't  even  handle  himself.

but  he  ...needed  time  to  himself,  too.  he  needed  someone  to  be  there  for  him,  too.  most  of  his  life  had  been  spent  home  or  with  his  brother  &  his  fiancé,  so  without  that  safety  blanket  he  was  ..  lost.  he'd  not  seen  eros  in  weeks  either.  he  wasn't  feeling  his  usual  cheery  self,  really,  but  he  still  made  himself  go  out.  he  headed  to  the  square  to  lie  down  in  the  grass,  watch  the  sky  &  think  about  ...well,  life.

it wasn't so much that prince was nosey, or that he poked his head into issues that didn't really concern him - or shouldn't concern him... really. not unless they concerned patrick, which was when prince decided that secrets shouldn't be secrets & instead be shared knowledge, especially after he'd seen nathan ....with someone who wasn't patrick & that definitely had been more than just .... a random, meeting.

patrick didn't say a lot about how things went with his fiancé but ...did they have issues? was what he'd seen something else & there was a really good explanation for it? he'd tried to get more information from patrick, but ... he refused. why? they looked happy together... usually & they worked together, too. man, he didn't get it.

"has anyone ever told you that you shouldn't keep secrets from your little brother? because he'll find out anyway." & he wouldn't stop until he did. nathan & his brother were the best couple he knew. ever since he was little he knew they were meant to be together & whatever was happening... shouldn't be. unless he was imagining things? was he so blind trying to find love himself that he let his own sadness taint their relationship? no. no no. nate used to be over a lot, but now he isn't anymore & he hadn't seen them... really cozy in a long while. "you can tell me... you know? i'm not a child anymore."

well, the patrick point wasn't exactly .. the point. the point was ... sett had spent the night & .... prince would like to scream into the world that his fox indeed was ... a god. all that build up over the past .. he couldn't even say how long, because it'd felt like forever... it'd been so worth it. the young selkie was ... pleasantly sore. okay, alright - it wasn't exactly pleasant, but he had no regrets.

& he woke up with strong arms wrapped around him, a warm chest acting as the best pillow in the world underneath him & the fox's scent everywhere around him. was this what heaven was like? the alpha's chest rose & fell in the most soothing rhythm, which made it even more difficult to pull himself out of bed... so he didn't. not yet anyway. he wanted to enjoy the moment & it was a saturday now, so .. they could lounge in bed doing absolutely nothing. or a lot. that'd depend on sett, really. prince was just floating along at this point.

the fox didn't stir until there was a knock on the door, but it didn't open. phew. because they were both naked with a thin blanket indeed covering the most important bits, but still.

"you guys hungry?" came his brother's voice through the door & prince glanced up at him to see if he was awake by now & had a preference before he went with his own. sett was looking at him, seemingly thinking the same thing?

"you gotta be hungry after last night." the fox god chuckled quietly.

the selkie's face went diving into the fox's neck - both to hide & to nuzzle fondly. "mmmmmyeah."

another knock. damnit brother, not now. "still here."

"we'll take some.... half an hour." he'd emerged from the alpha's magnificent body only to call out, but once patrick confirmed he understood, prince was back on him. no, sprawled across him & happily so. "you're the best pillow."

"so you say. not just the best pillow, aren't it?"

"mmmmmm i dunno." as to which sett decided to use the advantage he had to tickle the selkie on top of him. mercilessly. he didn't even stop when the young omega begged, at least not for a little while longer & when he did... well, prince was panting & twitching & giggling. all three at the same time. "okay, okay. maybe... you're more than a great pillow." he grinned & rolled off the other - partially to get away & find safety away from the foxes' capable hands, but also to pick up their clothes. they'd made quite the mess, "wash up, i'll go after you."

as they'd said. long night. freshening up a little was a necessity. for himself, he picked a pair of undies to put on & then he sat down on the bed to think about what to wear, which was when his brain woke up again. he had a pile of clothes right here. so, he went to dig & found sett's shirt in no time. holding it against his chest, he pushed his nose into it for. a deep, deep breath, which was when sett came back.

"is that my shirt?" fox inquired with a raised brow, because they both knew the answer to his question.

so he quickly put it on & sprawled out on the bed in only his underwear & chosen piece of fabric, but with how he stretched, the shirt rode up just enough to expose delicious (sett's words) skin of a stomach.

therefore, instead of getting ready as they'd said they would, the fox pounced on the omega, pressing soft wet kisses to the exposed skin, but also... raspberries, which definitely won him the war, but when prince's arms & legs wrapped around him & he clung to the other like a koala would to its mother, the fox sat back with a selkie in his lap.

"breakfast is important, you know?" sett grinned.

i can eat something else, it's fine. "i knooooow. fiiine. but i'm keeping the shirt. you can go without - patrick won't mind. or i can grab you one of his shirts, cause mine wouldn't fit like... one of your arms."

silence at the library was the one golden rule nobody was allowed to break without risking repercussions. prince.. might've felt like a rebel sometimes, but definitely not when it came to that rule. he knew the consequences & he didn't fancy being the sole point of attention when the calling out happened. he did feel though, like he would be .. soon, because sett had come to study with him, but it felt like he was wanting to studying him instead.

first his hands, he'd brushed their fingers together, had pressed prince's knuckles to his lips for a gentle kiss - in front of everybody and he'd whispered sweet compliments against prince's earlobe like they weren't in a public place & could be seen by almost everybody - book wall in front of them or not. prince thought he was doing quite fell, given the sensations & the fact he was .... well, not quite used to this kind of attention.

prince was trying to read through some articles on the side, but when he started the same sentence for the sixths time.... he glanced up at the other & let his bottom lip push out into a pout, which... he knew he could get away with normally, but in this moment.. he bit down on it instead. sett had - sneakily, brought a hand underneath the table between them & it had found the selkie's thigh to squeeze & rub, while his other hand ... had been sent to slither underneath prince's shirt to find not only a very sensitive belly, but also... something further up. two somethings. both equally sensitive.

so when the fox's fingers found a nipple to squeeze & scratch his nails along - which... was incredibly unfair. if you asked prince. but the he wasn't asked & he hadn't seen it coming, so .....he'd moaned. it'd been utter & perfect silence in the library despite it being semi-crowded & prince... broke that silence. he couldn't say his face had ever been this red, because it sure as shit could be mistaken for a strawberry right about now.

he could feel the eyes on them, could feel the judgement & he could hear the chatter as the librarian seemingly thought of a punishment to fit the crime, but it wouldn't get to that - not yet, because the door was not far & sett could just grab his little selkie's wrist to pull him out of the room. limited options, but surely one of the classrooms was empty.

"that one." sett ... was wonderful, his hero. the most beautiful person in existence. prince couldn't help fawn at him even as the fox pulled him inside a seemingly empty room, only to slam the door shut & press prince up against it before covering his body with his own.

prince ... was dating. yep, take that high school. this young, confident selkie was dating a hot alpha fox, among others. not prince pretending to look around when his heart fluttered only for one. although he did know that at their age, this feeling was fleeting - at least, so he was trying to be calm & let whatever was meant to happen... happen.

sett had invited him out for a weekend trip & prince... didn't really have any expectations whatsoever when he agreed. he thought the fox meant staying at his place (he'd never been!) over the weekend, watch some movies, have snacks et cetera, but he didn't expect for sett to think of something else on top. how the hell did he get so lucky?

instead, the alpha had come to pick him up with a bag of his own & a promise on his lips that they'd be back at patrick's place before midnight. most likely. turned out sett had planned a day at new haven's artificial beach, made for new haven's merfolk. it was hot out, the sun beat down on them even at nine in the morning, so ... seemed like it was going to be the perfect day?

sett brought a blanket & food for a picnic later on & towels, of course. prince hadn't felt this excited in a long time. they went for a swim, of course prince swam faster - this was his home turf. although he enjoyed playing around & splashing water at each other more than that. at around noon they had lunch - at the beach as expected & prince knew already today was going to be the best day of his life.

they weren't alone, but he didn't mind. in his little bubble only sett & him existed - nobody else mattered. they were playing around on the towel sett brought to use as a blanket, taking selfies of each other without the other agreeing, so when someone stepped up & waved hello, offering to take a picture of them, they both glanced up. looks were exchanged, nods shared.

when they got up to pose - with prince pulling the fox onto a little hill, sett's arm snuck around his waist & pulled him against his side without a comment & ...he didn't need one. prince glanced to his side, their eyes locked & smiles were reciprocated. the photo was taken, the click sounding, but neither really seemed to want to pull away.

it wasn't until the volunteer cleared his throat that the two realized they'd ... zoned out. prince blushed heavily & quickly returned to the towel to sit, legs crossed in front of him - not without mumbling a little thank you regardless. sett joined him soon after, sitting down so he leaned against the selkie's side with his own body. a strong hand came up to find the omega's chin & gently spun his head around until he faced him. soft smile rained down on the young selkie, but sett brought their lips together in a sweet, slow kiss.

"want to go swimming again? i could cool off." the alpha hummed after he pulled away a little. he had several reasons to cool off, the sun was only one of them.

"mhm, yeah." leaning his head against the other's shoulder, sett brought a hand up to brush through prince's hair, holding him close & just ... enjoying the time they could spend together like this, really.

"you okay eating my dust, though?"

the fox huffed & chuckled in response, leaning away a little so he could look at the younger male's face. "i was letting you win earlier."

"uhuh."

hands came to brush over the omega's sides, tickling every vulnerable spot on prince's body they could find, there was no mercy to be found in the alpha - not anymore. prince was writhing & giggling, twisting & laughing.

"who's the better swimmer, hmmm? can't hear you."

"mercy, please. have mercy."

"i might.... for a kiss."

"deal."

they spent most of the day at the beach & after that, sett took prince to don's diner for the biggest portion of fries & nuggets they offered, shared a milkshake & after that, sett brought prince back to patrick's place, but .... patrick worked late & ....sett might as well stay the night there. he did. but not the way everybody would've assumed, no.

both sat on the couch, they'd been watching a movie, but when patrick came home late in the night, he found them both fast asleep on the couch - prince practically curled up on top of the fix & ... the shark couldn't deny the sight hurt, even if he was unbelievably happy for his brother... he couldn't help but wish the same for his fox.

sett was ... undeniably a god.

there was no arguing about that, no denying it - no talking around it. he was way too good for prince & while prince wondered why the handsome fox even wanted to spend his days with him, but he'd take it for as long as sett's infatuation with him lasted. because damn, he loved every single second.

being on campus together was both good & bad, because that way he could literally spend his days ogling the fox he'd crushed on harder than his jaw did on the pavement when he fell off his bike as a little selkie. he.. didn't know if he'd call it love... yet, but mainly because he didn't know what sett was thinking.

they spent a lot of time together, they made out, they... had fun together, they ...were dating, right? kind of? gah, he knew he should ask, simply so...so like... he didn't mess up by seeing others & stuff, but he didn't know if he'd be okay with sett turning him down. he'd have to be, he knew that. but if he avoided the topic & just enjoyed what they had... well, then he wouldn't have to deal with it. yet. future prince could deal with it. besides... he remembered patrick's advice quite clearly... don't mess up, foxes are skittish.

patrick was the best brother one could hope for, really. with an apartment & room all for prince, so he wasn't stuck at his dorm room for the weekends - or other days sett had time for him & that way patrick knew he was safe, too. win-win all over. he also didn't give sett a hard time when he was over, like their father surely would. he couldn't even imagine introducing him to father.

no.. no, he'd keep his fox hidden for as long as he could & pretend home at the ruthledge mansion didn't exist. yep. he already worried regularly that father would demand to find a suiting partner for him, too. he would soon be the same age patrick was when he & nathan came together. right now he wanted his fox, nobody else. he couldn't tell what the future had in store for him, but he knew about the now.

right now he wanted to throw himself on sett who was resting in his bed still, but had rolled onto his belly as he waited for prince to return from the bathroom. prince was quite sure he was light enough to pull it off without hurting him, although he was also sure that he'd heard him gasp in surprise, which felt like a double-win all over, honestly. giggling like his evil master plan just worked out, he peppered the fox's shoulder & neck with kisses & little love bites.

"you're lucky that you're cute." alpha fox mode activated.

"oh yeah?" wide grin, fingers slid into the fox's short hair to pull lightly, "would you punish me if i wasn't?" selkie brat mode activated.

"maybe i would." he'd deserve it for being a tease.

"you're wayyyy too nice and soft. like a teddy. fluffy teddy." teeth came down on his bottom lip when their eyes met, sure he'd win, so when sett spun them around in seconds, cowering over prince with each of his hands holding the selkie's up by the wrist.... prince knew he'd won.

one thing prince learned from this was ..... that bars were not his home turf, not was he very good at being in one, because every single time he did & tried to have a good time - be it with or without company... he messed up. first time with eros he got himself lost, second time.. he met this wonderful guy & managed to get so drunk he remembered basically nothing, which meant that.. he most likely fucked up hardcore & behaved like an idiot.

he actually didn't know what he was like when drunk, but he knew he didn't suddenly turn to bravado, so it had to have been something else. did he grow clingy and quiet? angry? observant? he wanted to knoooow. but sett refused to tell him & just kept saying it wasn't anything bad. but.. sett was too nice, so... he couldn't really believe him, right? anyway.

this time.. he managed to get himself run over by a waiter on his way to one of the sitting areas & his shirt.... had been drenched in something he didn't dare even sniff. drenched. he stank like he'd bathed in it & knew that if patrick smelled it on him ...when he got back to his place.... yeah, he'd be in trouble.

sett, his knight in shining armor had happily shed his shirt to come to his aid, but .. prince wasn't sure anymore if he shouldn't have stopped him, because now... one. he could barely look anywhere else besides his very toned, very beautiful & very, very distracting chest, but also two. not just prince seemed mesmerized by the sight. which posed a problem, because the fox was his date tonight.

but then... he was just... how could he possible have met the one guy in this town who was too good for him?

"i said i was sorry!" but... he wasn't. at least not as sorry as patrick wanted him to be. or was he? he'd messed up, he knew, but nobody had been hurt, nothing was destroyed & it really wasn't as bad as mr. thorne had made it out to be. "but it was just a shirt, okay? like, it wasn't even a pricey one." & prince didn't do it for the money, really. he had money. money had never really been an issue, but ... he felt something.. at the thought of stealing.

he didn't even know why.

well, that didn't work out as planned. he thought this time he'd make it out unseen. first it was the extra chord on the shirt he tried to shop-lift, second time around he didn't realize the book he choose would be letting the alarm sound, too. third time's the charm... he thought. he'd been wrong. that time... security called home. he'd been so lucky that patrick was the emergency number in his phone & therefore the one that was called.

if his father knew... he'd be less than pleased. not that patrick had been pleased - not at all. he... couldn't remember the last - or first time patrick scolded him, until then. he worked for the law, so he couldn't really afford having prince act the way he did. his first attempt had been a poor act of defiance, but then... he just wanted to see himself succeed. this damn once.

"that's cause it is. whatever happens, or wherever we go. you'll always be home to me and i wanna be yours. you mean the world to me, pat." he knew that eventually they'd go their own ways, maybe one of them would even leave new haven, which he really hoped wasn't the case, because he knew the outside wasn't a fitting place for either of them - although ... if anybody had to live out in the wild, it'd be patrick. he'd always been the perfect son, the one that their father was proud of & looked at more than anybody else, which ... prince wasn't too unhappy about.

sure, he'd like to know what it was like to be the favorite son & he spent a long time of his life envying his brother, but .. he understood by now that it wasn't a blessing to be the one. patrick got lucky with his future mate, the fact they already loved each other before... how lucky is that? he could only wish for something like that, but ... he'd have to find his own mate... right? he thought so anyway. stephen never said anything, but he assumed patrick would know.

still, whatever happened or wherever they lived - his brother would be home to him & not just because he did, literally live with him sometimes. thankfully, patrick had allowed him a room in his home even after moving out from home, because ... the ruthledge mansion without patrick? unbearable. college dorm without his brother? unbearable.
