in no particular order or relevance to my work in progress au, here are a few things about my derek and avery:

post dawtde it took both derek and avery a Long time to get back into minecraft (videogames in general but minecraft above all) and before playing again they both removed the colour yellow from their skins, so d3r’s armour becomes silver and avery’s shirt gets red flowers for uhhh no particular reason whatsoever….

derek is surprisingly good at drawing

avery is insanely skilled at cooking and baking but he’s Humble about it. even though he loves baking

derek’s infinite knowledge (i still won’t tell you if he keeps it or not, let me think about all that) isn't really infinite. it's limited to unchangeable facts, scientific laws, the physical and chemical workings of things, the entire past, and probability of the future. But there is always a space there that can't account for human free will and error.

avery studies biology, he wants to go into either marine biology or most likely botany. before biology he tried studying business or something like that because it felt more socially acceptable but he absolutely hated it so he changed careers completely

derek is a computer science and mechanical engineering nerd. he tried studying both but became a university dropout bc the structure of the academic system is Not for him (he’s autistic and struggled a lot with time management and the authority hierarchy of academia)

avery works part time as a cashier at a bakery, and derek does freelance computer science jobs

derek is unintentionally VERY flirty: he’ll Genuinely and Sincerely say the sappiest most romantic things to avery and then he gets all confused as to why avery is so flustered. Avery has to be very blatantly flirty with derek for him to process that he’s flirting (again, the autism), so when avery flirts, derek gets INSANELY flustered even from the silliest of compliments. they’re cute as hell man i’m going insane

avery LOVES hugs and physical contact, very affectionate both platonically and romantically. this means cuddling with derek usually starts off with avery being the big spoon but if he falls asleep he ALWAYS somehow ends up as the little spoon

derek has always known about music theory but he cannot play any instrument at all

derek wears really silly socks hoping nobody will see them. avery thinks that that is adorable

post dawtde, being around Avery makes derek’s near constant pain almost disappear, for some reason (the reason is that Avery, being the ideal vessel, sort of channels a bit of the KIY energy out of derek in a way)

derek is a big ancient history buff (had the stereotypical ancient greece hyperfixation as a tween) and his favourite greek god is Athena. avery is a PJO fan so the greek gods are a frequent topic of conversation for them

despite his issues with motivation and self confidence, avery practically never quits doing anything that he's fully devoted to, always quits things he isn't devoted to. Which is the main reason why he has so many issues getting to places on time.. and the main reason he managed to find derek in the first place.

avery Will wear shorts even in winter, no matter the weather. He literally doesn't care, he very rarely feels cold (derek has to BEG him to put layers on if it's objectively cold. like he almost has to go and dress him himself. he actually gifted avery the hoodie i always draw him wearing). But if derek even so much as shivers, avery will panic and try anything to help him get warm. He's a biiiit overprotective. like annoyingly overprotective . constantly terrified anything will happen to derek so he's like. too careful at the start of their relationship. like checking his pulse or if he's breathing at night kind of overprotective. Knocking on the bathroom door when derek is showering kind of overprotective. He gets better with time. they both do.

avery Doesn't like wearing safety gear for skateboarding. Derek forces him to though, especially after one time avery came home with scratched knees

avery’s favoutite flowers used to be sunflowers because he liked eating the seeds but now even though he still likes the seeds he no longer likes the flower. His favourite flowers are now red pentas. again for absolutely no reason. avery loves plants, who could've guessed

avery has a marine tank with a few fish and crustaceans and echinoderms that he puts all his money into and that takes up a very large portion of his apartment. derek has a cat.

avery is scared of heights in real life and somehow still loves playing skywars

avery is INSANELY good at tetris. Derek likes falling asleep to avery’s tetris games because he finds the game’s sounds relaxing

avery used to LOVE gravity falls but he genuinely can't watch the whole show anymore because he's reminded of The Incident too much. had a massive crush on ford, too. he clearly has a type

avery has adhd so they’re the classic adhd+autism couple

they play boardgames together all the time. derek frequently lets avery win because avery is very competitive. avery still hasn’t figured out that derek is letting him win

-Avery being overprotective because he's scared of losing him again :(( i also hc derek being overprotective too when he wakes up from a nightmare about the incident, the first thing he'll do is check if avery's still there. Will suddenly grow anxious when avery doesn't reply to the message for 3 hours. They'll eventually heal together though, even if it will take time </3

matching bracelets bc derek said so (he hates being apart from avery so he bought bracelets (made w green and red rope and eachothers names engraved on a lil metal bit) so they can like always feel connected to eachother or sum. he dont say that tho bc then his nonchalantness would be broken and we dont want that noo)

everything else he cooks is kinda shit tho

he tends to make up his own recipes half the time and that doesnt always go well. like at all

derek often builds like tiny statues of their mc skins im mc and then immediately blows them up bc its a shared world and avery CANNOT see that UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES
