What’s the most out-of-character thing CC and writers made Mulder and/or Scully do in your opinion?
I can think of many (many, many) but No. 1 or in any case near up there has to be Scully leaving Mulder because of his depression/PTSD. I can imagine anyone leaving another person for the stress that can put on a relationship but not these two. Never. Come on, after ALL THE FUCKING SHIT they went through together and often for each other? Abductions, torture, deaths, mortal illness, loss of the kid Scully apparently wanted more than anything in life? Two people who were ready to die for each other? After M DIED and was returned to her, a miracle not even Jesus F Christ (I still can’t get over this apotheosis CC thought up for Mulder) managed to sustain for longer than a few days? OHCOMEON!! (Please don’t tell me it was for his own good, I’m too old-fashioned for that 😊)

I'm watching The X-Files for the first time and holy shit. Holy shit, guys. I was of course aware that Scully/Mulder are one of THE ships of all time, but nothing could have prepared me for the insane levels of shippable tension between these two. Scully is out here barging into Mulder's hotel room - which is a LOADED location - to drop her robe so he can reassure her that she hasn't been abducted by aliens, she's just a mosquito magnet. Then she's defending him from bureaucratic bullies one moment and saving his life at gunpoint the next. Meanwhile, Mulder has the most wet, pathetic puppy-dog eyes for her at ALL times, truly whipped, casually fixing her necklace while talking about how she appreciates the "journey" they go on, immediately after she calls him out for being territorial around another guy. He's losing his mind when she's in danger. He's casually dropping the most insane compliments I've ever heard. He's known her, like, a month.
I thought I was prepared for them. I'm on episode three. I'm being fucking humbled for my shipping hubris.
The X-Files – 6.03: Triangle
perhaps it’s just because (tmi:) I was on my period at work today and feeling miserable about it, but I was thinking about Scully dealing with her period at work;
about her working for years in a male-dominated workplace, with a male partner, often ending up in strange places at strange times of day without her usual shops available, and i was thinking about all the precautions she would have had to have taken to deal with it quietly without mulder knowing.
because to be honest I doubt scully ever let mulder know when she was on her period. at least not before they were together.
because she’s a woman in the FBI, she doesn’t want to give anyone any more reason to think her emotional, or to disregard her, or to make jokes about ‘being on the rag’ etc.
and this isn’t to say I think mulder would ever dream of saying such things to scully, but I think, like her nosebleeds and her cancer symptoms, her period is something that Scully, (the fiercely private and independent individual that she is), would never think of telling mulder about. or anyone for that matter. (except perhaps missy. 🥲 that’s what sisters are for after all.)
but then I was thinking about the IVF arc. and how brutal that first period back at work after the IVF failed must have been.
And how, this time, Mulder would have known.
because of course he’d been paying attention to her cycle and her fertility appointments lined up in the calendar, hoping beyond all hope that he could give Scully what she so desperately wanted.
And so; on that day when he knew her period was due after she had told him the IVF had failed, even if he never said a word, and even if she never acknowledged it, I like to think he took extra special care of her that week.
that he brought her thai food, cut back on his more annoying banter, silently did an unusually large amount of overdue paperwork without being asked. and I like to think Scully noticed and was touched.

Immediate skip. I don’t think there’s a single military episode I enjoy. This one is boring, nothing really happens, and the only part I like is the scene with the dogs. This episode can go in the bin.

* I do not care for the military episodes. I think they have to be my least favourite type of episode.
* Why are Mulder and scully here?
* “He’s here. I feel him.”
* Scully’s too short to see anything.
* The shot of Scully just twirling around 😂

My thoughts:
My main issue with this episode is that it doesn’t really tie into anything. An emphasis could have been placed on Mulder and even if nobody wanted to go down the Mulder is Jewish route, Scully has cancer. Scully is dying at some point and it could’ve looped back around to that. Instead we get a very basic MOTW episode that could fit in anywhere (I know this was originally meant to be written for early s4/pre cancer arc and it shows) the episode by itself isn’t one of my favourites but the Jewish mythology held my interest.
Running commentary:
* It was going pretty well and then I heard the ethnic flutes. They’re so overused and not necessary at all. They could’ve gone with a really creepy score instead.
* Scully looks so good here wtf.
* Oh yeah remember she has cancer.
* He’s meant to be 16??
* Jacob’s making some good points here.
* That man looks like a paedophile.
* Third use of ethnic flutes. Gonna start a counter.
* “Seems pretty redundant messing up the body of the man they already killed.”
* I love logical scientific scully.
* Love a scully pov cam.
* The score could’ve been so much better in this episode.
* If it’s not locked does that mean they just get to enter?
* Fourth ethnic flutes.
* Feel like Scully should’ve done the rope cutting no?
* Why did mulder start shooting him?
* That’s gotta be a heavy ring.
* Also. Why did scully not come up to mulder when she heard the gunfire? I know so it’s probably so she didn’t see the golem but mulder could’ve been being shot to pieces up there.
* It’s a good thing mulder is okay.
