Edinburgh hotel recommendations?
I just really sneakily booked flights to Edinburgh before Christmas as a surprise for Russell while he was asleep. Now I need to book a hotel, can anyone recommend any cheap but modern ones in the city centre? Preferably near the castle.

I’ve been struggling a little bit again. Kinda thought I’d kicked all this is the head but no. Sunday was the worst, Monday was also pretty bad, yesterday I saw one of my oldest and best friends for the first time in a year and that really helped but I feel like I’ve taken a bit of a step backwards today.
Sunday I woke up just feeling very introverted, then as the day went on, the apathy took over and I became entirely disinterested in everything. I went for a walk and geocaching with Russell, which usually I’d enjoy but I found myself staring into space while Russell rummaged for the cache, and it took him ages to find. When he did find it, to be honest I was already walking back to the car. He tried to take me for another walk in my favourite place but when we parked up I just couldn’t bring myself to leave the car and couldn’t shift this absent-minded, spaced out feeling. Basically this continued, with my mood becoming more and more irritable until I was angrily snapping at Russell when he was trying to comfort me, then spent literally 2 hours sobbing as quietly as I could into my pillow in the living room when he went to sleep.
Monday was slightly better, the whole day I spent with that stinging feeling you get when you’re holding back tears, until Russell came home and it all came out. But the displacement feeling was subsiding. Then yesterday I spent time with a really understanding pal and that took the edge off. Today I’m still not feeling myself but it’s definitely easing.
I was talking to Russell about how it feels. It doesn’t seem to share any correlation with my anxiety, they sometimes overlap but usually exist without one another. And I don’t find any similarities between them at all, although I know some people do. The only way I can describe it is like an emptiness. I feel like I’ve been stolen. I feel like I’ve been taken and put in a broken vessel that does not want to work anymore, and I have to try to engage it to work, when the universe is fighting against it. And I know I will get to go back to my real vessel soon, I just don’t know how long and I have to wait and do my best to keep my head above water. This feeling like you’ve been stolen is one that I think lots of people can relate to.
I always thought I’d know if I got ill because I watched my mum struggle with depression my whole life. I thought it’d be like flicking on a sad switch and I’d feel better with some TLC but now I understand why my mum looked at me like she didn’t know me and shrugged me off when I tried to comfort her and screamed at me for having the TV on and couldn’t get out of bed and cried for hours and couldn’t tell me how much she was suffering.
