Thank you!!! There's definitely a lot tips and guides available to get a feel of the basics of storyboarding. I think a good exercise is to study films, both animated and live action, to see what shots work best to drive the story or to showcase a character's emotions. I would pause on every other shot and do a quick thumbnail and repeat throughout a film.

But drawing is just one part of being a storyboard artist. A big part of job of being a storyboard artist, especially in television, is that you're going to do a lot a problem solving. Sometimes what seems like it'll work on script, won't actually work when your drawing it out, or you'll need to be creative on figuring out ways to make something work within the limits of the productions budget and what the animation team can realistically pull off. Like, if the script says there's a crowd, but you only have a limited character count per shot, what would be the best angle or shot to make a small crowd seem bigger? Also, you should always be keeping in mind problems that might pop up down the pipeline to the reivisionists and animators. You don't want to give them extra work, so if doing small things like keeping your storyboard pro file organized, color coding characters to make them easier to track (I always do Sofia in purple, Zane blue, Camila green, Layla pinkish-red), and making sure you put enough poses to make an action or emotion clear as day is very important. Good communication between crewmates and thinking ahead are just as important skills as actual drawing when it comes to storyboarding.

For tips on actual boards, I'd say don't be afraid to add a bit of your own jokes and sense of storytelling within your boards (within reason of course). Sometimes I'll add a character doing a bit of fun acting in the background (like Tomas hesitantly petting an electric eel while Santi and Lorelai are talking to eachother on one episode of Santiago of the Seas) or I'll expand on a script action to make it more entertaining like in the Royal Magic episode "The Green-Eyed Monster" when Zane is going to protect Zaria from the goo monsters. In the script, it just said for Zane to grab his mandolin from the desk. But I thought it'd be funnier to have Zane just literally jump on all the desks and knock everything over in his mad, single-minded dash to grab his mandolin to save his sister. The result is the same, but one is much funnier and exciting than the other.

To me, Amber being a little jealous actually makes sense for her character 🤷🏾‍♀️. It’s not like she was trying to sabotage Sofia. She just felt forgotten for a moment and honestly I can kind of understand that. Imagine constantly being compared to your sibling or feeling like everyone is focused on them, even when you love them and want the best for them. I know I felt that way with my sister.

I feel like sibling jealously is a normal feeling, especially when you’re a kid. Having those feelings doesn’t erase all of her growth. She just wants to feel seen and appreciated too. I also think people forget that Amber has always wanted recognition and validation. That’s been part of her character from the beginning. The difference now is that she’s matured.

Unlike other members of the Circus, Kaufmo and Ribbit actually knew each other at one time before entering the Digital realm. They weren't friends, but they attended the same high school around the same time and identified one another through a common story, though they still cannot remember their human identities.

They didn't know each other very well before the circus but grew to be close friends and romantic partners until Ribbit Abstracted. Kaufmo held on for a few years but was eventually driven to Abstract himself minutes before Pomni's arrival.

Ribbit is also trans, although no longer a human body, the Circus did give her a female presenting form that she has always wished for.

Ribbit was a bit of a fun loving prankster, but generally pretty kind and smart, she presented herself as a strong person that anyone could talk to but was a bit sensitive and private, only sharing personal details about her life with her most trusted friends. Kaufmo was a bit more down to Earth, your regular everyman, he tried to be funny but his jokes don't always land, was very positive though almost to the point of being overly friendly. He was a dependable friend who didn't mind being trapped in the circus until he was faced with the inevitability and tragedy of Abstraction and began desperately looking for a way out.

They were both good friends to Ragatha, people she thought would be around forever and misses dearly.

They both respected him for how long he had survived in the Circus, but were not friends with him and did not make any effort to get to know him outside of Adventures beyond a few conversations in the Cafe.
