ohno-isoâ:
Isobel had a quick rebuttal for Scottyâs criticism but she had an answer for everything. It was impressive how good she was at thinking on her feet for somebody that was usually so ditsy.Years of improv has served her well.
âWhat if holy water just weakens his vampire powers instead of killing him?â,she suggested.Vampire lore wasnât something she was well versed in.Twilight was the only thing with vampires in that she had seen and she only watched it because she was forced to at a sixth grade sleepover.Vampire movies didnât appeal to her ,they were boring or had too much blood. They were made with nerds like Scotty in mind.
âWhy would I know that?I donât watch Damian eat.â,she responded with an eye roll.Lately Kat had forced her to look at Damianâs weird frog like face more than she she would to.âThatâs more Katâs thing.â,she added.Scotty probably wouldnât get it but she thought it was funny and that was all that mattered.
âThe Gewn Lady?Scotty sheâs like two years older than you at the most.âShe rolled her eyes again but this time it was with affection.Sometimes Scotty talked like a grade schooler trying to be polite. She understood why he was an outcast but he was an endearing outcast that needed to be protected at all costs. She had legally adopted him.âYouâre such a polite young man.â
âAnd yeah sheâs pretty intense but itâs cool though.â,she said with a small smile.Kat would smack her for gushing over Gwen and admitting that she was a mystery she wanted to solve but it was safe with Scotty.
"So he like, tortures himself a little? Like, like, masochism?â That was... kinky. Ew. Thinking of Captain Fitzgerald and the word âkinkyâ felt wrong. Like putting strawberry jam with like, mustard or something if you ran out of peanut butter. (Not that Scottyâs ever done that. Though he was tempted to until he realized he can just crush up some peanuts and mix it up with some butter and call it a day.)
Okay, fair point. Maybe it was just Scotty who spent the first couple of weeks at school a nervous wreck. The dining hall was intimidating, okay? Sometimes people watching was the only thing you could do after you guzzling down all of your food way too quick. âKat? Katherine Bishop Kat?â His friend from Keough? âWait, does she like Damian? Like, like-like.â Scotty asked with wide-eyes and lowered volume. Was that allowed? It wasnât illegal? Werenât House Captains basically teachers? That broke some code, he was sure of it.
âYeah, but sheâs scary,â he defended himself in a whisper, leaning across the table in desperation. Scary automatically adds like 5 years on you at most. âHer eyes are always like... like two millicentimeters from squinting at you hardcore.â Millicentimeters was not a unit of measurement but Scotty has never advertised himself as the brightest. âAnd sheâs a House Captain. You gotta like, respect them, right?â At least he sort of regarded Tristan as an older brother slash uncle slash dad type figure. âHey, my grandmother taught me manners, so--â He shrugged as he sat back a bit, a cheeky half smile on his lips. âDoesnât hurt to be too respectful. Because you could always be less respectful. But when you lay the respect on thick after being a dick, it feels fake.â Wise words from his grandmother. Shoutout Gran.
âItâs cool?â Scotty blinked, a bit confused now. âWhat, you like, have you talked to her or something?â And lived? Okay, that was pushing it. He was just kidding now. Gwen probably wasnât that bad. Scottyâs face twisted into a curious look, arms crossing over his chest as he eyed Isobel for a moment. âAre you gonna poke Gwen with a stick?â He asked, not liking where he was sensing this to be going.
