𝙲𝙰𝚁𝚁𝙳.

a  study  into  what  happens  to  the  𝘍𝘐𝘕𝘈𝘓  𝘎𝘐𝘙𝘓  after  the  credits  roll,    being  the  𝘖𝘓𝘋𝘌𝘚𝘛  𝘚𝘐𝘉𝘓𝘐𝘕𝘎  even  after  you’ve  become  an  only  child,    &&  how  far  you  will  go  for  the  𝘈𝘕𝘚𝘞𝘌𝘙𝘚  you  never  wanted  to  hear.

[Norm would give her credit where it was due – she had guts. Even after his shift in tone, she had the audacity to reject his words and fight back. Not a whole lot of people would do that, least of all teenagers or children who hadn’t yet tussled with the cops, like her. Still…her insistence that their encounters would persist wasn’t taken well by the officer, who scowled a bit at the notion. His entire point was that she needed to stop coming here; it jeopardized everything he was working towards, and it also put her in danger, especially if he wasn’t the one on-scene. What didn’t she understand?]

Quit while yer ahead. ❞ [With Norm entirely unwilling to make any actual moves against her, all he had to rely on was intimidation – which wasn’t without its merits, to be fair. Even the most hardened criminals could crack under his interrogations if he pressured them enough, and he was sure he could achieve the same result here…he just didn’t want to be too rough on her. [The disgruntled officer quirked a brow as she struggled to make a nonexistent point; as a matter of fact, she was committing numerous crimes merely by existing on this spot without being an officer of the law. Her intentions to look around for “something” only added to the charges – again, she was incredibly lucky to have only encountered Norm thus far. Any other cop would have written her up a thousand times.]

❝ As a matter o'fact, it IS a crime, little lady. This here’s a crime scene. You crossin’ that tape, lookin’ around for “somethin’” n’ screwin’ everything else up while ya do? That’s a classic case of evidence tamperin’.             quit  while  you’re  ahead.    but  she’s  not.    jude  is  so  far  behind  that  she’s  not  even  entirely  sure  what  she’s  even  chasing  after  anymore.    she’s  realistic.    she  knows  that  very  nearly  every  odd  is  stacked  against  her.    she’s  certainly  been  told  enough  times  how  hopeless  her  situation  is.    but  if  there’s  even  the  smallest  chance  that  she  can  fix  things,  everything  that  she  fucked  up,  that  she  could  bring  jeremy  home  ?    then,  she  has  to  take  it.    the  thought  of  alternatives  has  never  even  crossed  her  mind.    whatever  it  takes,  even  if  that  includes  ending  up  in  the  police  station  for  a  few  hours  (  not  that  it  matters  but    .  .  .    they  don’t  arrest  people  for  such  minor  stuff,  right  ?  ).

            jude’s  anger  flickers,  smoldering  into  genuine  concern,  not  at  the  idea  that  she’s  been  committing  actual  crimes  but  because  her  actions  could  be  doing  more  harm  than  good.    he’s  bluffing,  he  has  to  be  bluffing.    but  even  as  she  keeps  repeating  it,  her  voice  stutters  &&  shakes.    ❝    i  -  i  haven’t  actually  messed  anything  up,  have  i  ?    ❞    would  it  really  be  all  that  surprising  if  she  had  ?    jude  didn’t  used  to  have  this  kind  of  track  record.    what  happened  ?    her  next  words  are  hard  to  choose    (  her  instinct  is  to  apologize,  but  her  pride  won’t  allow  it  )    &&  they  wind  up  as  a  bunch  of  half  -  spoken  nonsense.    ❝    i  really  didn’t  mean  to,  if  i  did    .  .  .    i  just    .  .  .    ❞

            ❝    is  it  ?    ❞    jude’s  question  is  entirely  genuine.    she’d  honestly  just  haphazardly  thrown  on  the  first  shirt  she  grabbed  that  wasn’t  either  dirty  or  too  wrinkled.    it’s  her  own  fault  really.    she’s  the  one  who  put  off  a  research  paper  until  the  very  last  minute  &&  then  stayed  up  all  night  in  a  last  ditch  effort  to  finish  it.
