               every minute seems to drag on, being alone in the car and looking for someone who MIGHT NOT show. stake-outs are a waiting game. even with all the preparation in the world, one can still lose. illya sits ramrod straight to keep himself from the temptation of rest. it would be all too easy to shut his eyes and catch up on the sleep due him after the back-to-back missions that preceded this assignment. napoleon’s company is necessary to fight the monster of exhaustion. illya’s fingers tap against his thigh out of habit, one that school teacher after school teacher tried to break him of indulging.

               the door opens and he resists the urge to smile, his partner’s return sweetened with gifts. “ waverly won’t approve. “ he chides lazily, only wanting the words to be said rather than adhered to in the moment. “ we’ll have to be careful when we write our report.  “

    what does he see when he looks at her  ?    a  girl.    a teenage girl who loves to defy god and runs on trouble.    there’s no motion in her body to signify tension as she’s still hunched over the table curling her hair around her finger.    ❛      that’s  fucking  amazing.      ❜   but she has to laugh.    they don’t know what she has in the head of hers.    they could never find her.

Selina couldn’t say the same; she kept herself guarded and closed off.
