*. OUTCAST / SPEECHLESS

                 hello  ,    ladies  ,    look    at    your    man  ,    now    back    to    me  ,    now    back    at    your    man  ,    now    back    to    me  .      sadly  ,    he    isn’t    me  ,    but    if    he    stopped    having    normal    hands    &    replaced    his    fingers    with    scissors  ,    he    could    look    like    he’s    me  .      look    down  ,    back    up  ,    where    are    you    ?    you’re    in    a    gothic    castle    overlooking    the    lights    of    suburbia    with    the    man    your    man    could    look    like  .      what’s    in    your    hand  ,    back    at    me  .      i    have    it  ,    it’s    now    torn    to    shreds    ‘cause    i    can’t    fucking    hold    anything  .      look    again  ,    i’m    now    holding    winona    ryder    &    being    emo  .      anything    is    possible    when    your    man    has    scissors    for    hands  .      i’m    running    from    the    cops  .          

      edward  is  awestruck  the  moment  he  manages  to  shuffle  into  the  addams’s  lovely  home .     it  reminds  him  greatly  of  how  the  castle  used  to  be  when  life  still  existed  in  it —    unique ,   not  afraid  to  stand  out .     beyond  that ,   everything  seems  to  be  radiating  with  a  vivacious  glow .   he’s  forgotten  how  wonderful  being  apart  of  a  family  can  be .

           ‘   are  you  sure  i  can  stay  here ?   ‘

               ‘       how  can  you  see  out  of  those  glasses ?  ‘     a   childlike  confusion  ensnares  edward-   tinted  glasses  are  a  thing  so  far  unknown  to  him .    he  was  always  taught  glasses  are  simply  a  thing  to  help  some  people  see ,   &   gear-like  mind  cannot  help  but  wonder  how  the  dark  could  inspire  clarity .

           the  sound  of  leaves  crunching  beneath  his  feet  is  almost  enough  to  startle  him ,   &   certainly  something  that  has  scared  away  the  neighboring  wildlife .    his  legs  still  relatively  new ,    almost  foreign  limbs  he  hasn’t  quite  figured  out  cause  him  to  have  a  staggering  way  of  walking-  thus  making  his  trek  to  the  river  something  of  an  impossible  feat .    among  the  bright  pastels  of  suburbia  he  contrasts  the  uniformity ,   &  here  among  nature  he  seems  to  blend  in  as  some  beautiful  anomaly .   it’s  almost  enough  for  his  quiet  heart  to  find  solace .

             that  is  until  he  notices  a  girl  venturing  near  the  same  path  as  him .   he  grows  still ,   eyes  widening  in  a  dreaded  fright .    his  scissors  nervously  slice  through  the  air ,    his  only  call  for  help  from  some  unknown  force .    but  edward  can’t  help  but  notice  she  looks  so...  different .   nothing  like  the  brightness  of  everybody  else .    his  curiosity  is  almost  enough  to  prompt  him  to  reach  out ,   but  fear  still  maintains  its  tight  grip  on  him .    he  remains  paralyzed .   

           but ,   like  a  tree  uprooted ,  he  finds  himself  losing  his  balance ,  &  suddenly  he  is  a  mess  of  limps ,  flailing  as  he  rolls  down  the  hill ,  landing  solely  in  the  bank  of  the  river .    following  the  roar  of   his  sheer  mass  tumbling  through  sticks  &  leaves  is  a  simple  silence-  how  he  hopes  that  she  somehow  did  not  notice .
