stating to think there’s an inverse correlation between how good media is and how easily fandomizable it is 😁
good media should make you stare at wall for 2 hours instead of immediately starting shippings wars and coffeeshop au and slowburn fics
no no you’re not wrong but also
there’s a reason for this.
My personal theory is that if Media is REALLY good, there isn't really... space, if you will for fans to add or change perspectives on it. Too dense, too complete. Like how coral won't grow on plastic because it's too smooth
Whereas some half-baked hot garbage has got ALL KINDS of plot holes, incomplete characterization, warped timelines, missing worldbuilding and other Spaces for fans to colonize, like coral growing on a sunken battleship.
And then if a series just sucks too much, it's not fun to interact with at all, and people won't fandomize it because it's toxic. Like how coral won't grow on sunken piles of burnt-out tires.
I call this the Fandom Barrier-Reef Theory.
something truly horrific about clicking an article about a national or global tragedy only for a pop up to say you only have 3 more free articles this month and then each paragraph of the piece is divided by picture ads for skin creams while a video of a car commercial plays automatically in the corner no matter how far you scroll
“I could fix him”; “I could make him worse!” Why??????? Why all this DIY???? I just wanna stand over his shoulder and see what he can possibly fuck up next
i support bi rights. but more relevantly i support bi wrongs

You can carbon date this post by its shade of blue
no ad is as powerful as a tumblr mutual who has a new hyperfixation
I’m in this photo and I’m trying to make everyone else like it.
the absolute mindfuck of learning that when americans said “pumpkin spice” they were talking about like. nutmeg and cinnamon. and not adding pumpkin flavouring to stuff
So, you guys remember good old Ea-Nasir? The copper merchant from ancient Mesopotamia who kept stiffing his customers out of their money and copper, and then kept their complaint letters stored in a room in his house, to be found by archaeologists thousands of years later?
Well, I recently learned something that makes that story even better. Most clay tablets from that time period were made of unfired clay, which means that they degraded over time, getting washed away by weather and such. Some of the fired tablets were fired on purpose, but others were fired accidentally when the building they were stored in were burnt down.
That means that in this case there are three options. (1) The tablets in Ea-Nasir’s house were unfired and just really randomly lucky to survive. (2) Ea-Nasir’s house was burnt down, likely by someone he owed money to. (3) Ea-Nasir not only kept a bunch of complaint letters in his house, but fired them to preserve them.
The drama of Ea-Nasir is more compelling than pretty much all of the MCU
Mesopotamian Copper Universe
Everytime someone said "you're fired" to him, he fired up their complaint letter
I was trying to explain tumblr to someone who had never used it before and she said “So what do people post there? Videos, like on tiktok?” and it took all my self control not to say “Mostly we just post bullshit.”
Wild, I too explained tumblr to someone today, and I did not refrain from saying we posted and reblogged fandom bullshit 🤣
She literally had NO frame of reference for ANY of it and I was just like “how do I even describe this site”
You can describe Tumblr as “a blogging platform housing thriving fandoms, underappreciated artists, and tons of shitposts” but that doesn’t even come close to the EXPERIENCE of using Tumblr.
You are on Tumblr. You scroll past a thread spouting hot takes about a fandom you’re not in. You see signal boosts for people you will never meet. An ad tells you to put butter on your pillows. Your mutual spams about infinity train for a full hour and you don’t hear from them for days. “Everyone at the farmers market wishes to know me carnally.” The inherent terror and joy of seeing the color of the sky.
You are on Tumblr. You post two videos. The first gets uploaded after five minutes. The second video never uploads. You reupload the second video. Nothing happens. You check your activity. You don’t know if someone just liked the same post eight times or if Tumblr is broken. Two people follow you. You’re not sure if they’re porn bots or empty blogs. Someone messages you about ray bans official charity event. Two days later the second video is uploaded twice. You close Tumblr. You open it again. There’s a thread about how to hide a dead body. Someone tells you to touch grass. You try to search for a post on your blog. The search function does not work. There is a screenshot of a tweet of a Tumblr post. The reblogs are incomprehensible. The tags are worse.
You are on Tumblr.
This reads like a welcome to nightvale traffic report

on another note, watched The Mummy (1999) the other day and I couldn’t help feel like the O’Connells and the Addams (Addams Family Values (1993) would get on really well ya know? The O’Connells are basically the pastel adventure version of the Addams, surely they would just be vibin’ over tea and crumpets in an extremely haunted mansion having a ball of a time
Morticia: “So what is it you do for a living my dear?”
Evelyn: “We dig up dead people who often have monstrous curses placed on them!”
Morticia: “fascinating”
Gomez: *leaping out from behind a pillar which is encrusted with ominous looking runes* en garde!
Rick: *grabs sword from equally ominous looking wall full of weapons one of which seems to be glowing* fantastic I was getting a bit rusty
Gomez: *nearly in tears* oh he’s screaming nonsensically, what spirit! what reslove!
*Rick and Gomez, still frantically sword fighting*
Rick: Have I mentioned how wonderful my wife is yet, I really feel like I haven’t really expanded enough on how wonderful she is
Gomez: do go on, I would be delighted to hear about how wonderful your wife is, I strongly encourge all men to extoll the virtues of their wives with rapturous praise, however I should perhaps mention my wife is in fact better
*sword fighting intensifies as both men rapturously extoll the virtues of their wives*
Jonathan and Fester and Cousin Itt watch from the bar, where Lurch and Thing are making the drinks.
Jonathan and Thing knew one another from The War; each thought the other to be dead
Their reunion is highly emotional
Rick, whilst swordfighting: My wife resurrected an ancient evil that brought about the plagues.
Gomez: What. A. Woman.
Meanwhile, Alex has run off with Wednesday and Pugsley and the Addams children are teaching him the finer points of dynamite usage, and he translates the inscription on the mummy sarcophagus in their playroom (and inadvertently wakes up the mummy inside, but they all have fun dealing with it) and no one bats an eye at the explosions coming from upstairs.
@deadcatwithaflamethrower I’m pretty sure you’ve seen this already, but on the offchance you haven’t….
I’ve seen it but I still need it every time I see it.
bruh what
If you ever get confused by an ancient object, show it to as many traditional handcrafters as you can. Odds are one of them will see it and go Huh.
Cross Discipline Input is vital to us all
This was mind-blowing and i would LOVE to see more examples

Tumblr is not a social media site, it is a mid-20s crisis center at this point
The opposite of a mansion murder mystery where everyone present is a bounty hunter who really wants to take credit for the murder and the detective has to find out who really did it
Assistant: "What about the gunpowder found at the scene?"
Detective: "I thought about that as well! But as you can see from the bullet wound, it was clearly done posthumously."
Assistant: "Remarkable find! But why would someone shoot a corpse?"
*Bounty hunter 'Gun shootman' tossing his hat on the ground and stomping it as he rips up the contract he hoped to cash in on fulfilling*
Femme fatale: his ink bottle was knocked over detective. I dont know if that means anything but its all i could find. *coquettishly turns and shows off ink stains on dress*
Detective: The victim was murdered in the lounge actually so i don't think there should have been any ink there at all
Femme fatale: *takes off heels and throws them through the glass window*
In the end it’s revealed that the “victim” died of natural causes
