Pantalone is a man who loves to own things and mold them into exactly what he wants.

Like a zookeeper tossing food into the lion's den, Pierro has unknowingly served Pantalone the best meal he'll ever have: a pretty teenage boy who's been abandoned by his homeland and has never been shown an ounce of affection.

And oh, Pantalone intends to savor this meal.

He starts off small by approaching under the simple guise of a man welcoming and trying to get to know his new colleague better. He quickly learns that Zandik—or rather Il Dottore now—is anything but stupid. In fact, he's scarily intelligent. All the more reason to make him his and his alone.

Dottore is on edge at first. Who could blame him? But unbeknownst to him, his habit of self-isolating in his lab makes him a much easier target. No one to bother them whenever Pantalone pays him a visit.

Pantalone plays the role of a supportive colleague who's very interested to learn about Dottore's research and goals. Technically, he isn't lying. He just has... other intentions, too.

At the prospect of someone being fascinated in his ideas for the first time and actually willing to aid and financially support him, Dottore becomes eager, looking forward to whenever Pantalone visits.

Next come the touches and close proximity. Handshakes turn to friendly pats on the shoulder that linger for just a little too long. Whenever Dottore gets super into one of his theses, Pantalone makes sure to sidle up nice and close to him. The way Dottore gets flustered when he notices is absolutely delightful. His cheeks turn a little pink and he loses his train of thought.

When Pantalone notices that Dottore likes whenever he pats his head to playfully tease him, he uses that as an opening. He pretends to get lost in thought while Dottore is talking and starts playing with his hair. When Dottore shyly questions him on it, Pantalone replies by complimenting his hair and saying he's drawn to things (and people) he finds gorgeous. When he asks if it bothers Dottore, the now red-faced boy trips over his own words to try and casually say that he doesn't mind.

It certainly comes off as suspicious to the other Harbingers how Dottore only ever leaves his lab or his quarters if Pantalone is somehow involved. During meetings, he sticks to Pantalone like glue. People have joked about how he follows the banker around the palace like a duckling. But unless anyone wants their funding permanently cut or their bank account suddenly empty, they'll keep their mouths shut.

The touching becomes bolder and more frequent. Pantalone takes note of every spot on Dottore that makes him shudder, tense, relax or lean in. On days when Pantalone is too busy to pay him a visit, Dottore is noticeably more antsy when he visits him again. And, well, maybe Pantalone purposely avoids visiting Dottore for several days just to see how he'll react.

One time, Pantalone decides he'll be busy for three whole weeks. The sight that greets him when he visits the lab afterwards is worth it.

The lab is a disaster. Well, more than usual. Dottore? Even worse, in the most beautiful way.

He's frailer, paler, with bags under his manic bloodshot eyes, clothes a mess, and a bald spot where he had been pulling out his hair.

Pantalone easily slips into the facade of a shocked and worried friend, comforting the teen who is quite literally clinging to him and muttering about how he thought he did something to upset Pantalone, how he thought Pantalone didn't want to see him again, how he'd been working nonstop on several projects in hopes that Pantalone will like them and like him again–

Pantalone shushes him, rubs his back and cards a soothing hand through his hair, reassuring him that he still loves him, all while trying to suppress his growing arousal at the situation. This boy is a mess who can't function without him. And Pantalone intends on breaking him further.

He manages to convince Dottore to sit on his lap so that he can brush his hair and try to hide the bald spot. It's the first time they've spent this long together without Dottore talking about an experiment. Pantalone rubs light circles in areas that he's memorized as sensitive while massaging his scalp and whispering praises into his ear.

To Pantalone's sheer delight, Dottore gets hard. He bites back a groan at Dottore's reaction when Pantalone slithers a hand to his bulge. When he asks Dottore if he's a virgin, he learns that he's never even touched himself before.

Oh, Pantalone is going to ruin this boy.

The fact that Dottore is very unapproachable and unpleasant to anyone who isn't Pantalone is all the more incentive for people to mind their own business.

As the years go by, Dottore has grown a terrifying reputation. To outsiders, he seems like an independent madman who only cares about himself and what benefits him. But those within the Fatui have long since been aware of how much more cruel, short-tempered, volatile and erratic he becomes whenever he's away from a certain banker for too long.

Il Dottore's loyalty to the Tsaritsa is a front. He only listens to her because angering her would in turn disappoint Pantalone, or worse: separate him from Pantalone. And earning Pantalone's praise, approval, affection and attention is what Dottore cares about the most.
