Enheduanna is the earliest known named author in recorded history. A Sumerian princess, poet, and high priestess in the city of Ur (in modern-day Iraq), she lived in the 23rd century BCE.
At some point, a Sumerian king ousted her from the position and forced her into exile. She wrote about this in her poem βThe Exaltation of Inanna,β which describes the coup and her pleas to the goddess Inanna to restore her position.
The very first known author was a priestess of the goddess who was usurped by a male conqueror. There is some poetic irony in that, donβt you think?
