Young love. The type of love that makes your heart race and flutter when thinking about that special someone. Your mind is flooded with thoughts and desires towards your person of interest. The desire to love and care for each other. Clasping each other's hands. Walking cheek-to-cheek while you profess your love for each other.
That is...if both parties feel the same way.
Riddle has been enamored with the prefect for quite some time now. Ever since his blot, he has taken notice of things about you that he would previously not care about. Everything about them made his heart flutter and his brain to become hazy. The way their smile seemed to fill up the room. The confidence in which they carry themselves. The kindness and selfishness that yearns to help others in need. It is true, he had fallen. Hard.
But he was in a bit of a predicament. The prefect already had feelings for another. They had been dating their partner for quite some time. They walked together to and from class. Would hang out every minute of the day. Laugh together as they discuss the meaningless nothings of their day. Riddle would watch from afar as the love of his life did everything he ever desired to do...with someone else.
At first, all he could feel was jealousy. He would look at their partner with disdain and malice. Punishing them more harshly if they were a Heartslabyul student. He never tried to pretend to like that person, which was very clear to you. You would watch as Riddle would glare and frown at your partner. Giving them the cold shoulder and always speaking harshly about them.
Riddle would also start actively start avoiding the prefect at all times. After class, you would try to run over to your friend Riddle at the door of the classroom. But as soon as the bell would ring, Riddle would quickly gather his belongings and rush out of the classroom and disappear before you reach the hallway.
But after a while, he would start feeling disappointed and disgusted with himself. And he came to a realization. Why is he mad with the person he loves? And why is he angry because they are with someone they truly love? Loving someone means you should be happy for them. And the truth is, the prefect is already happy.
While observing the prefect and their partner, he saw that they had never been happier. Their mood always lifts when talking about them. Their partner seems to truly care about them and wants them to be happy. The prefect was happy.
And that was always what he wanted, for them to be happy and cared about.
So Riddle would watch from the sidelines as the person he loved walked cheek-to-cheek with their partner. Clasping each other's hands together. As they cared and loved each other. Eventually at the end of the day, he would be content with loving the prefect from afar. Eventually he might get over his feelings, maybe not. But he will never intrude and ruin the relationship that the prefect is happy and content with.
Because at the end of the day, you always prioritize their happiness over yours. Even if it makes your heart sink.
