Hello from your local crocodile therian! I’ve compiled some tips for reptilekin folks (and similar friends) to feel more comfy based on my own experiences. I’m still getting used to Tumblr so please forgive the formatting.

🌿 When it’s warm and sunny outside, go outside and lay in the sun or on a warm rock. If you don’t want to be in direct sunlight, you can also open up a window to let some warm air into your room or even just open up the curtains a bit.

🐊 Whenever you’re feeling cold, try placing your hands and arms into some warm running water, or take a nice shower or bath if you can. I find that a bit of warmth can go a long way for my energy on a frigid and grey day. Making a nest out of blankets in bed can also help. Bonus points for heat mats and heated blankets!

🌿 Play some games that feel comfortable. I like The Isle where you play as a dinosaur, Subnautica’s creative mode since I’m an ocean dweller, and Planet Zoo so that I can make interesting exhibits for virtual reptiles. Movies, documentaries, and other TV shows can also be good forms of media if you can find something with your kintype.

🐊 Find some comforting ambience and/or music that reminds you of your species. This can be a jungle, waterfalls, ocean waves, dragon sounds, game music, anything at all that gives you a feeling of comfort.

🌿 Add some plants to your room that match your biome. Cacti and succulents would fit well for a desert dweller whereas ferns might better fit a jungle reptile. If you’re a water-based reptile, marimo moss balls are easy to care for and they live in water while adding some nice pops of color to your room too! You could also try making a small plant aquarium. 

🐊 Humidifiers! I love them! If you can add one to your room, I find that they are greatly comforting, but do be aware that they need to be cleaned regularly to prevent mold and bacteria growth. I currently own an Easehold vase shaped humidifier which also doubles as a nightlight that can change colors. I’ve found that it is also easy to clean it.

🌿 Try eating some human safe foods that remind you of your theriotype. Some reptiles eat bugs which are sold in some stores, or you can make chocolate shaped ones. There are also sushi and sashimi, vegan meat alternatives, fruits, veggies, and so on. Just be aware of any allergies and dangers regarding the food you choose to eat. For a reptile meal, I generally suggest avoiding dairy since they wouldn’t consume it. Water, tea, and smoothies are always good choices and staying hydrated is always important.

🐊 Try blowing out some chicken eggs and making a nest if your type would lay eggs. I’ve found that making nests with empty chicken egg shells helps with desires to have eggs. You can also eventually replace the eggs with some small plush animals of your kintype like the eggs had hatched. There are also some stores online that sell ceramic hatching reptiles which can be more subtle and decorative.
