“Welcome”

Chris walks through the door, utterly exhausted from working all the time. He just wants to grab his girl and never let her go. The scent of Christmas fills the air, and a bark and patter of paws can be heard as his dog Dodger bolts towards him, “Hey Bubba! I missed you!” Chris kneels down, opening his arms as his dog jumps into them, attacking him with kisses and cuddles. A large grin appears on Chris’s face before he looks around, “where’s your mum, Dodge? Hmm? She hiding?” Chris stands, his hand still petting his dog, before wandering toward where he hears the rustle of plastic coming from the lounge room.

When Chris enters the room, his heart warms at the sight in front of him. Sitting facing him is his wife, all rugged up in one of his hoodies and their blanket that they knitted together. A warm smile graces her as she waves at him before shoving popcorn into her mouth. “Hi, Baby!” Chris shakes his head as he chuckles, feeling more love toward her at her muffled greeting. He walks toward her and places a kiss against her plump lips. 

“Hey, baby girl. Don’t you look adorable, what’s the special occasion?” His eyes fall onto the massive amount of snacks and then the giant TV screen that shows The Little Mermaid. “Are you watching The Little Mermaid without me?!” Chris’s eyes widen as he looks at her, shocked, playfully placing his hand on his chest as he acts betrayed. Y/n giggles, shaking her head as she continues to snack on the popcorn in her lap, her eyes connected with his beautiful blue ones.

“No, of course not, baby. I was waiting for you because I know how stressed you’ve been and thought I’d spoil you. Now go change into some comfortable clothes.” Y/n places a hand on his hip as she speaks to him, smiling as she sees his body relax.

Chris nods, looking at Dodger. “You better take good care of your mum while I’m gone, understand?” He chuckles before jogging to their bedroom and changing into a pair of his trackies and another one of his hoodies. His eyes land on their wedding photo beside their bed, and he smiles, wondering how he got so lucky to land someone as beautiful as you. Once Chris has changed into his comfortable clothing, he heads back to the lounge, jumps down next to Y/n and pulls her into his warm body. He places a soft kiss on top of her head before turning to face the TV.

Y/n snuggles deeper into her husband, eyes slightly dazed as she finally feels at home. Grabbing the remote, she presses play and holds out some popcorn for Chris to take. 

That night was filled with laughs, singing along with the tunes, pigging out on all the snacks and stolen kisses. When Chris looked down at his wife, he smiled softly as he noticed that she’s fallen asleep and cute little sounds were escaping her mouth. He chews on a handful of jellybeans before softly maneuvering his wife around so that he lays behind her with her back to him before wrapping his massive arms around her small form. Dodger curls around their feet as he and his dad slowly fall into a deep slumber.

The family sleeps soundlessly. One dreams of a big family and happiness, the other dreams of finally telling the one they love that they will be welcoming life into the world and the last dreams about running in a field and leaping into a pile of treats.
