he startles at the familiar spark jolts through him, his eyes opening wide as if unbelieving. thereâs no way, is there? but no oneâs ever made him feel this way like yuri has so surely that must meanâŠ? kijung breaks apart, breathing erratic as everything starts catching up to him despite his head still feeling a bit woozy from all the alcohol heâs had. heâs not drunk though, nor is he so wasted that he doesnât know what heâs doing, and low and behold, he immediately recognizes the face staring back at him is none other than the person heâs been wanting to see all night.
âshit,â is all he can say at first, whispering the word so low as if heâs been punched (although it kind of does feel like he has). âyuri?â he wasnât drunk enough for this after all.
                                    ⊠a gift for choi yuri ( @hyvnsungâ ).  \ âĄ
the moment yuri slips through the door, eyes scanning the crowd for any familiar faces ( of which there are supposed to be a lot ), his next knee-jerk reaction is to head out a minute after. why? because yuri immediately picks up the sound of someone he doesn't want to hear, one that he used to listen to often until that inevitable point in time where they fell apart. yuri almost grumbles to himself, annoyed and frustrated at the idea of even running into kijungâlike a puppy being taunted with a treat it can't have.
but leaving the party would mean yuri had admitted defeat; that kijung's presence is significant enough to cause his exit. yuri had told himself over and over that it's over, they're over. there's nothing for yuri to run away from, even if the rapid beat of his pulse is saying otherwise, putting all of yuri's efforts in vain and echoing the opposite. it pays to be in denial and be justified for it! unlike whatever it is his idiot of an ex has going on.
maybe that's just his wishful thinking again. stupid yuri, stupid feelings, stupid heart. still hung up on that one guy he intends to avoid tonight at all costs, no matter what happens. there are people he actually wants to meet, new people to acquaint himself withâanything as long as he isn't alone with his thoughts and the looming threat of a new year, accompanied by the cruel realization that nothing has changed. nothing ever will.
he's determined to avoid a daunting and taxing confrontation at the very least, turning the other way whenever he notices a tall figure from the corner of his eyes. lucky for yuri, it's not difficult pointing out kijungâbut that in itself is infuriating, yuri briefly wonders how many useless moments he has wasted searching for the other out of habit to make it so easy. it's a habit he intends to kill next, along with everything that he had accumulated simply by being around kijung.
somehow, the night goes on without so much as a hitch. not that yuri isn't making any sacrifices, he remains mildly sober just so he can keep a cooler head, knowing that being drunk would only fuel his numb brain to make dumb decisions. if kijung's here, that's definitely an option he doesn't want to take. he can't risk itâwho knows what will spill out of his lips if he has no brain-to-mouth filter?
being sober means he can observe his surroundings better, so it shouldn't be that surprising when he witnesses the way kijung sways in his stepsâis the dumbass already drunk!?âand a traitorous wave of concern overtakes him. it's not like he hasn't seen kijung drinking more than he can take, but in those cases, yuri had been there to make sure kijung doesn't trip over his own overly grown limbs. can yuri blame it on an unchangeable habit if he wanders close to kijung, taking his place by kijung's side like how he always thought he would continue to do?
probably not. but yuri will do so anyway. he'll even blame kijung, who is currently leaning in closer to kiss him without a care in the world as the clock strikes twelveâ
...huh?
wait. what?
yuri's thought process fails to catch up to the newly updated situation, where he can feel kijung's lips against his own for a brief momentâa sensation that he believed he'd never feel again, a sudden weight he wasn't ready for. his breath halts, and he freezes as if he had been left out in the cold snow. what should've lasted for a mere few seconds stretches into hours in yuri's mind, aided by how his imagination replays the scene again. and again. and again. and again.
he can hear the whisper of his name just as much as he can feel the heat rising to his cheeks, kijung's face coming into his view, looking surprisedâwhy is kijung the one surprised!? yuri barely had any time to react! how is this fair?
âyouâwhy would youâwhat did you just do?â he's at a loss for words, stammering over what he's trying to say, stuck in disbelief. to be fair, everyone had been doing what kijung just did, maybe a part of yuri knew what would happen if he lingered within kijung's premises but decided to still do so. but... still! still!!!! kijung wouldn'tâ
yuri takes a sniff of the air and notices the strong smell of alcohol. oh, of course. that's why. there's no way kijung meant to kiss yuri in particular.
he scoffs, making his judgement known. âdidn't know you're a player who'd kiss just about anyone to greet the new year.â yuri comments, dripping venom into the tone of his voice. âyou smell, too. why did you drink so much?â
defeated, he lets out a sigh. âwell guess what, genius. you ended up kissing your ex instead. sorry to disappoint.â becoming even more frustrated now that he had verbally addressed the situation, yuriâs eyes narrow into a glare. annoyed. exasperated. wishing for a christmas miracle too late into the gameâ
âunless it was on purpose? you wanna do that again? missed me that much?â he says in jest, meaning to do nothing more than poke fun at kijung.

life is busy â william leads his with grace, teetering between crime and a âsimpleâ role as professor in a university. at this moment, heâs fulfilling his duties for the latter, clearing out his board of mathematical equations and its longwinded solutions. his students have long since left the room, eager to continue on with their day. nothing seems amiss, theyâre processing his teachings quite well so far, from what he can tell. heâll need to do further assessments afterwards. william is already preparing an assignment in his head, from easiest to smallest, though he stops when he hears the faint creak of the door open. heâll have to postpone this to a later time. he smiles as he gathers his papers from the table, unable to keep a small chuckle from leaving him. âmr. holmes, what a pleasant surprise. it feels like only yesterday when you were here last.â carefully, he sorts everything into a folder, before finally turning to his guest. âto what do i owe the occasion, this time? surely you arenât planning on enrolling into this curriculum, are you?â

qiqi has a hard time remembering things. perhaps it is only to be expected, with the young age she had died at combined with the fact that she is now⊠well, a zombie. not quite alive, not quite dead, but caught in the middle between the two.Â
but qiqi is good at remembering things that she specifically focuses on putting into her memory. she might not remember all the little details, but she can remember a surprising amount for a small zombie. she doesnât remember his name, but she does remember that he likes the qingxin flower. she remembers that to her, he is gege, and that is all that matters. she remembers that he always has a small smile on his face when she gives him the qingxin flowers. it always feels sad, but qiqi doesnât really know why.Â
qiqi toddles up to him on short legs, legs that had never finished growing before her life had been cut short, standing in front of him silently and blinking up at him past the talisman permanently attached to her forehead. small. âgegeâŠâ she says in her soft, little voice.Â
            â the story of xiao and qiqi // { @hyvnsung }
war changes everyone. thatâs what many would sayâand thereâs proof to that statement, but what about those whose sole existence come to be due to war itself? what about those whose purpose in life was to end the war, no matter the bloodshed that come by, how tainted their own hands become?
for the guardian yaksha, once the war came to a close, he learned to anticipate. thereâs shackles he canât free himself from, a duty heâs bound to serve for as long as heâs able to breathe. as alatus, he waits, for the moment heâd have to plunge into the battlefield once more. he watches over liyue, hoping for a better future as the past continues to haunt him. thereâs no sure method to keep liyue away from harm, to shield it from another archon war or the rebirth of yet another vicious god. thatâs why he remains, always waiting.
but as xiao, heâs learning to appreciate the little things. small flowers that can easily be taken in by the wind, the inviting scent of almond tofu, the innkeepers that welcomed his stayâgege, he hears. xiao turns his head, casting his gaze downwards to find the source of that monotone yet sweet voice. he wears a smile he usually doesnât around unexpected visitors, faint but genuine.
the little things.
âqiqi,â he says as he crouches down to face her properly. his eyes linger on the talisman, feeling a familiar uncomfortable twinge under his skin. âyou found me, again. here to make another special delivery?â
going along with any and all of kiyoungâs pranks have been a part of his daily duties for a while now. it shouldnât be, considering sihwan is a respected prefect and shouldnât let his friends walk over him, but he was always the easiest to convince out of the rest of the prefects. itâs almost a wonder how heâs able to keep his position if it wasnât for the fact that heâs good at everything else. so far though, he hadnât gotten into trouble himself for letting a few students go without repercussions. he intends to keep it that way, albeit he isnât doing a very great job with that when heâs literally running with kiyoung as if heâs just as guilty for the prank the other pulled previously.
despite all this, sihwan manages to let out a laugh as he runs after his friend, the refreshing thrill that comes after almost getting away with something welcomed. âi canât believe you just did that,â sihwan says, his voice a harsh whisper, careful so they wonât get caught. kiyoung makes a point to let sihwan know whenever heâs about to cause trouble, mostly so heâd be able to bail kiyoung out of it, but sihwan finds it rather fun to get involved, in a way. itâs like their thingâeven if whenever kiyoung asks him to do so heâs a step closer to getting his title as prefect revoked.
he halts his own laughter when he hears heavy footsteps approaching, followed by a frustrated grumble. sihwan knows exactly what that entails, heâs not sure theyâll be able to get out of this without an invisibility cloak. he looks at kiyoung like a deer before headlights, pondering over what they should do next. as his eyes scanned their surroundings, scrolling through his head for a spell that could save them without raising any sort of suspicions, it was then that he received an epiphanyâor more like, his thoughts hit a dead end and he decided on the most convenient option.
convenient to who? heâs not sure yet.
âkiyoung, listenâyou donât want to get caught, right?â sihwan doesnât need a verbal response to know the answer, not when kiyoung had gone on a long streak getting away with most things. âokay, well, donât panic! i know just what to do.â considering where they are, dimly lit hallway, backed into a cornerâthis is the spot for activities that sihwan would usually interrupt himself for the sake of his job as a prefect or wilfully ignore out of respect. heâs not sure whether kiyoung is familiar with it, but kiyoung is attractive so it shouldnât be out of the norm for the other to be dragged to these types of spots before. now isnât the time to think, thoughâitâs time to act.
sihwan mumbles a short apology as his gaze drops to kiyoungâs lips, looping an arm over the otherâs neck and pulling him inâcloser, closer, closer. he shuts his eyes then, listening to the sound someone approaching and hoping this is distraction enough. but even then, he canât get the feeling of kiyoungâs lips against his out of his head.

yuri and kijung
...to shut them up (+ out of jealousy and spite)

( tw // alcohol )
it shouldnât be this aggravating, watching someone who he used to dateâwho doesnât mean a thing to him these days, really!âtalking to everyone that isnât him. yuri should be getting himself used to it, in fact. heâs the one whoâs constantly pushing kijung away, for good reason. maybe kijung didnât even realise heâs here either, which should be great for yuri! he does remember threatening their mutual friends not to mention yuriâs whereabouts. so why is he the one annoyed and bothered, unable to stop his own gaze from drifting towards the other male? when he finds himself approaching kijung with a sway in his steps, yuri decides to place the blame on the alcohol. when he realises heâs standing behind the irritatingly tall boy, yuri says itâs all because of how many drinks he just had.
kijung is talking about something, rambling more likeâyuri canât quite figure it out, but he somehow hears his own name among the mix. knowing that, the way kijung hadnât noticed him and has all his attention focused on someone else, he doesnât even bother to figure out who it is, makes him feel weird. he doesnât like it, heâs ready to discard whatever it is heâs feeling just like everything else that is related to kijung, but he never was very good at that in the first place. a small scoff is enough to alert kijung of yuriâs presence though, and suddenly kijungâs eyes are on his. as he notices the heat across his own cheeks, yuri tells himself that itâs because he absolutely failed in controlling his soju intake tonight.
heâs not sure if heâs seeing things, if thereâs mild concern in kijungâs eyes, probably because of his current hazy state, itâs clear heâs not in the right mind. yuri doesnât appreciate being on the receiving end of pity though, so he shoots a glare kijungâs wayâi donât need you, heâs trying to say. but heâs here. he sought kijung out. can he blame that on alcohol too?
right as he catches someone call out kijungâs name (god, why is everything else a blur except for the sound of kijungâs name? this isnât the time nor place to question that), something ugly settles under his skin when he sees kijung turning away from him to grace another with his attention. yuri picks up the mention of his own name again, then a laugh. once kijung is facing him again, thereâs an unmistakable curl on his lips, akin to that of a smirk. yuri doesnât question why thereâs a flutter in his chest when kijung looks at him that way, heâll say itâs because heâs too drunk to think straight.
thereâs something swelling in his chest that yuri refuses to address, not now and definitely not when heâs sober. the moment the sound of kijungâs voice reaches his ears, when he hears kijung say his name with such tenderness that he would rather die than acknowledge, everything he locked and buried ten feet deep starts to resurface. kijung keeps talking, as if the sound of his voice isnât enough to make yuri melt. sneaking glances, sleepless nights, subtle smilesâpretending that none of that affected himâenough of that.
âshut up,â he finally says. he moves before his brain could catch up, could process what heâs doing and stop him from doing something stupid. he fell victim to his own impulses, dragging kijung closer by the hair. as yuri feels kijungâs lips against his, yuri wonders whether he can blame this on the alcohol, as well.
( end tw )
royalty au
if today was any other normal day, maybe yuri would have been able to endure this. under different circumstances, he could tune everything out and leave the room with just a twinge of discomfort. but today had been tiringârunning around, trying to catch up to the prince, having to watch the royal act so tender with someone else that isnât him (a princess no less, one he can never ever compare to), yuri isnât in the best state to be listening to all this. for the first time in his life, he doesnât want to be here, standing close to the dinner table as the royal family converse.
theyâre talking about how said princess would be the perfect match for kijung, how the kingdom would benefit from their union, how beautiful she is and how sheâd be able to bring out the best from the young prince. yuri simply stood there, replaying the events that occurred earlier as he takes in the king and queenâs words. he can see what they mean, even from afar he could tell that theyâd be idea couple, a pair that the kingdom can look up to and admire. thereâs a sharp pain in his chest when he admits that to himself, but he remains by the princeâs side until the conversation ends and he has to escort kijung back to his room.
even then, though, he doesnât get the break he thinks he deserves. it isnât unnatural for kijung to complain about what his parents are doing, anyone would be a little annoyed about being forced to interact with others for the sole purpose of a formal union. on another day, yuri would be willing to lend an ear, maybe even make a few comments just to get kijung to smile. but today, he doesnât find the energy within himself to do that. maybe itâs because he has seen the same scene play out countless times, maybe heâs starting to realise that itâs futile to hope for himselfâmaybe he just wants it all to stop, but it doesnât.
yuri doesnât say anything even as they enter kijungâs room, space wide and littered with valuables fit for a royal yet completely out of place within yuriâs range. heâs ready to bid his goodbye, crash into his own simple bed and force himself to sleep and discard his feelings. kijung hasnât stopped talking thoughâso yuri waits, as any good personal bodyguard does. he holds himself back, bites on his own tongue and lets kijung talk and talk. itâs the least he can do, itâs probably what he deserves for harbouring forbidden feelings for his prince, of all people.
he thought he could get away with it, continue to endure until kijung loses enough spite to run his mouth. it isnât until the other mentions how itâd be so much better if he just hung out with yuri forever instead, that something clicks within him. âyour majesty, iââ he starts to say, but his words die at his lips. what could he say to that? how could he tell the other that those words made him so happy, gave him hope that he should have crushed long ago? yuri shouldnât be holding onto the way his heart would race around the prince, the hope that maybe, just maybe, kijung wanted to be with him too.
but theyâre not kids anymore, and hoping hurts.
kijung continues to speak, trying to drive his own point home. yuri canât listen though, he canât bring himself to. he takes a step forward, one step too many. he hasnât realised just how little distance there had been between them until now, with kijung right in front of him, looking down at him with expectant eyes. he doesnât know what expression he has on, but itâs enough to morph kijungâs from curiosity toâwhat is that, pity? kijung is about to say something more, but canât take it anymore.
yuri doesnât wait to see if his silent pleading works on the other, he sees kijungâs mouth move and suddenly he blanks outâthe first thing he notices is the feeling of something warm and soft against his own lips, staying there a second too long, but it feels right. he doesnât want to let go, he doesnât want the world to keep spinningâhe wants to stay in this moment, but yuri knows more than anyone else that he canât. just like that, he had crossed a line he shouldnât have even stepped on. the kiss was chaste, but to yuri it felt like an eternity, heâd remember it for just as long.
when their eyes meet again, yuri had taken several steps back. there are tears brimming the corner of his eyes, merely waiting to overflow. he doesnât let them. he had messed up enough in this moment, the last thing he needs is for kijung to witness him at his weakest. itâs the least he can do now that he tarnished his position as a bodyguard.
âgod, kijung... why couldnât you just shut up, for once?â
thatâs the last thing he says before he bursts out of the roomâhe already ran out of hope.
she's half expected him not to show up, but there he is, clad in the fancy suit she's picked out for him, the shade and style matching her dress, though less flashy than her attire. bored expression morphs into one of pleasant surprise and she moves over to him, the fabric of her gown swaying with the movement. "you? here? you must be either drunk or incredibly bored." like me. pretty lashes blink up at him, ring-clad fingers reaching to hold his out of mere habit.
bell doesnât see himself sticking around very long, not when the room is slowly filling up with students dressing glamorously. such gatherings arenât exactly to his tastes, nor does he understand what is particularly exciting about an event where students, under the watchful gazes of professors and other staff, would party. itâs a high class, slightly pretentious occasion that he isnât interested in partaking. heâs here for a reason though, and he spots that reason out of the corner of his eyes.
the fancy suit that he adorns is one that miyoung had picked out previously, so itâs only natural for him to come looking for her and to stand by her side like this. when he feels her fingers reaching out to his, he laces his own with hers. her comment does nothing to dissuade him, he hums instead. âwell, there wasnât anything to entertain myself with outside, really. so you could say that i am staggeringly bored. i thought that if i came here, there would be some sort of drama to laugh at. there seems to beâitâs all too typical to be amusing, though. but thatâs not my only reason for coming here.â
he adjusts his hand that held hers. he bent down slightly, bringing the back of her hand to his lips in one gentle motion. âhave you finished flaunting your beautiful gown, or must i wait a little longer to steal you away from here?â he asks with a small quirk of his lips, a teasing glint to his tone, but thereâs a serious implication to his words. he isnât just teasing, he doesnât need to tell her that heâs here to save her from boredom, she would already know. thatâs how it had always been between the two of them.
the tattoo shop is an easy walk from his flower shop, nestled just a little down the road and across the street. not so far that when he steps out to the front of his shop to tend to the flowers there he canât see the shop. itâs a comfort, being so close to the one he cares for so deeply. knowing that at the end of his day when heâs closing shop that san lang is right there for him, letting them have the chance to walk home together.Â
today is a ( not so ) rare day that xie lian finds himself closing the shop early. sometimes he wonders if he should hire help just so he wouldnât need to close to have a social life. and he knows he has a few friends who said they wouldnât mind but he always feels a little bad about asking that of any of them. even if he was planning to pay them.Â
itâs an idea to consider more so though as having someone to cover the shop meant he could spend more time with san lang.Â
a small smile forms as he thinks of the younger while hanging his apron near the door and making sure to lock up. his whole reason for closing early today was because of said man. xie lian still couldnât really believe he had agreed to this but between mu qing constantly poking at him about how he would never dare do something like this, and the fact that san lang always looks so nice with his own.Â
and well, xie lian finally decided to get a tattoo.Â
he wonders if his nerves are obvious as he steps into the familiar tattoo parlor because even if heâs sure about this thereâs still a bit of trepidation about it all. the permanent marking on ones skin. heâs not really worried about the pain but well he isnât one who enjoys it either. regardless, he finds himself smiling more as he seeâs the very reason he was even doing this.Â
âsan lang, iâm here~.â he greets cheerfully, managing to put aside a bit of his nerves for a moment.Â
today is a special dayâwhy? naturally, one of the reasons is because he gets to see xie lian. hua cheng had never been very subtle about how much he looks forward to spending time with the florist, sometimes heâd be so obvious that xie lian would redden and let out a nervous laugh. their shops are fairly close, which he finds comfort in. hua cheng had told the older many times taht if ever xie lian wants to visit, heâs always welcomed to, no matter what it is heâs doing. however, that isnât all there is to today.
when xie lian came to him with the idea of getting his own tattoo, hua cheng had been a little surprised. not in a bad way, never when it comes to xie lian. instead, itâs a pleasant surprised. he always thought that xie lian would look good with one (that may be his bias speaking, but he does find the idea of dark ink against xie lianâs skin to be a particularly beautiful image).
hua cheng would have insisted that he be the one to give xie lian the tattoo. luckily, he didnât have to. xie lian had asked for it all on his own. of course hua cheng wouldnât refuse, he had never refused the older, he isnât going to start now. heâs ecstatic about the entire idea actually, looking forward to when xie lian would come by so they can get started. he finds his gaze drifting towards the clock, just waiting.
although he hadnât told xie lian this earlier, hua cheng did decide to close up his parlor earlier himself, mostly so he can focus solely on xie lian. once the door opens and he hears the otherâs voice calling out for him, a smile spreads across his face, beaming in a way it doesnât for anyone else. âgege, youâre finally here!â hua cheng steps towards the older, unable to hold himself back from embracing xie lian. after a moment, he pulls away. âhave you decided on what you want to get?â
there werenât many people she disliked who were living in mondstadt. sure, there  were adults who would nag about her to the knights of favonius, but there wasnât  really anyone she could think of negatively that lived there. the members of the  church  looked at her as if she was a sweet little girl and though she frequently got  on jeanâs  case, the knights still appreciated her contribution as well as someone to  look after.  so, in turn, there was no reason for her to mind their company, either.Â
but thereâs this  one  fellow who lived in the city that she didnât know too much  about. she doesnât see him often at headquarters. if he did show up, she was either  in wolvendom or somewhere else outside. whenever she passes by his bar in the city,  she can hear dionaâs loud rants about him as well as kaeyaâs sigh. so she doesnât  exactly feel much of a good vibe from the other, even if she had never properly met  him before.Â
so as she runs through the forests, she doesnât expect to  literally run into him. she  almost falls, but she manages to keep balance as she looks up at the much taller  figure in front of her. just the sight of his jacket makes it easy to distinguish him, but  klee looks over to the sign on the right of her to read â dawnâs winery â and easily  piece things together.
â sorry! i wasnât paying attention to where i was going, â she says, finding herself  cower slightly at the sight of him. she always thought he was  strange  because he  always looked irritated whenever she saw him, in contrast to the other grown ups in  the headquarters. â are you diluc? â she asks. â i think dionaâs talked to me about you  before. something about you being in charge of the wine industry⊠whatever that is. âÂ
to the grumpy grown up that never smiles: @hyvnsungâ
diluc had never been one to hide his distastes for the knights of favonius, although he doesnât shy away from acknowledging their contributions to mondstadt either. that isnât to say that it means overlooking the rest that theyâre lacking. he doesnât step out of his usual routine often, usually strolling around mondstadt to keep an eye out, under the guise of the wine industry that he holds at the palm of his hands, all to make up for what the knights of favonius would miss beneath their own noses.
today, however, isnât one of those days. when he isnât keeping up appearances in mondstadt or in his own bar, heâd be in dawn wineryâusually with a subordinate, sometimes alone. thereâs something he wants to test out in the open, so he instructed the rest of his staff to stay indoors. diluc bends down slightly to place some elemental bait on the ground. now itâs only a matter of time until slimes start showing up.
instead of slimes, howeverâis a little girl, all dressed in red from head to toe. she crashed into him without a warning, her figure too small to actually cause a fall. for himself, anyway. fortunately, she stumbles but doesnât fall. he raises an eyebrow, wondering what sheâs doing around the premises. diluc recalls seeing her a few times, remembers jean mentioning her in passing. if his memory serves him correct, she is someone diona knows. that, in itself, is cause for concern.
his theory was proven correct when she mentions the other girlâs name, and he nods. âthatâs correct. i take it youâre klee, then?â dilucâs tone is calm and flat. âyouâve wandered off quite far. itâd be best if you leave, some creatures are going to show up andâoh, it appears to be too late.â as he spoke, smaller slimes are slowly approaching, no doubt having sensed the elemental bait. âseeing as youâre under jean... can you fight, little girl?â

itâs a wonder how he ended up where he is right now, away from wangshu innâand for once, he isnât alone. xiao canât quite place how exactly a certain traveller began worming his way into his space, slowly, with the aid of almond tofu. a lot had happened since thenâaether gradually became a regular visitor. although the adeptus had been difficult at first, sometimes refusing to even show himself to the other, aether persisted. why exactly, he still canât figure out, but after all this time, xiao would be lying if he said he hated the outcome.
back then, xiao wouldnât dream of seeing himself crossing lands with another all on his own, making a major decision that would effect his future, separate from his duties. but heâs here now, somewhat at peace, agreeing to share a part of his life with aiding aether on his quest. right now, theyâre staying over at an inn, taking a long-awaited break. with a knock on the door, xiao lets himself in, strolling inside as he had done a few times before. although their arrangement is still an hour or two away, the adeptus sees nothing wrong with arriving early, if itâs possible.
heâs about to call out to aether, when he stops in his tracks. itâs unusual for xiao to witness aetherâs hair untiedâbut heâd be lying to himself if he doesnât find the other beautiful at this very moment. xiao does nothing that could so much as disturb the traveller, keeping himself rooted to his spot. thereâs a peaceful air as he watches aether work on his hair, forming a braid. it was only when aether is nearly finished that xiao finally approaches, visible before the mirror reflects aetherâs features.
âyou donât have to hurry,â xiao says, settling by aetherâs side. briefly, he wonders whether aether had noticed he was watching, but he decides not to ask. âwe still have time, thereâs no rush.â amber eyes follow the movements of aetherâs fingers, his own tapping against his skinâfor some reason, heâs itching to reach out. âi donât think it would be wise for you to rush yourself and somehow ruin all that hard work youâre putting into your hair, after all.â
          (  â  ) â letter to aether, @wiindborne
only when heâs brought inside is when he finally feels as if he can relax, feeling safe like he usually did when he started coming over to younghaâs place. he lets out a soft yet shaky sigh, gently squeezing younghaâs hand for comfort as he follows him over to the couch. hoon gives another small nod before he slowly sits down, not wanting to let go of his hand but forcing himself to as he props his elbows on his legs and buries his face into the palms of his hands. his voice sounds muffled as he speaks. âiâm fine, really. dad just drank too much tonight andâŠâ he canât bring himself to say it, to tell youngha what had happened because he would only worry more.
tw // abuse, physical abuse
thereâs a lot more to what meets the eye, youngha told himself that the moment he came across jihoon for the first time in years. he doesnât like to push, wouldnât dream of ever forcing the younger to reveal to him everything. a part of himself wants to know, to hopefully prevent jihoon from leaving againâa selfish wish, one he doesnât want to force upon jihoon should it ever surface. another part of himself is afraid to knowâyoungha doesnât know the gravity of the situation, heâs clueless as to what jihoon is going through. with his friend showing up unannounced at his doorstep like this, seemingly hurt, youngha isnât sure whether heâs ready to find out.
above all, however, he wants to become jihoonâs pillar, to be able to hold the younger up whenever heâs having trouble. at the end of the day, jihoonâs comfort and safety come first. he wants the other to know that no matter what it is, heâll always be happy to help jihoon, to be there for him even when nobody else would be. at this point, heâd do anything to make the other smile at him, to witness that carefree grin that he used to see often back in their childhood days. itâs no secret that he missed that smile, even more so now.
the smile that jihoon gives him is weaker, not as bright as youngha had hoped. it makes his heart ache, but he has to remain strongâfor the both of them, but especially for jihoon. heâs still patient with the younger, lets jihoon take his time to piece together whatever it is he wants to say. as much as heâd like to believe jihoon wouldnât lie to him, isnât capable of doing that, youngha isnât oblivious. his friend is far from alright, but what is bothering youngha so much is that he doesnât know whatâs wrongâhe canât even tell if heâd be able to fix things for jihoon, not when he doesnât understand how bad things are.
âheyâdonât you worry about that, okay?â youngha reaches out slowly, rubbing soothing circles against jihoonâs back in an attempt to comfort the other, to somehow calm him down. for now, thatâs the most he can do. âiâm glad you came, iâm happy to have you here, no matter the reason.â he means it, of course. whether itâs over something trivial or if jihoon is seeking comfortâwhatever it is, youngha will always welcome jihoon with open arms. the youngerâs visits are one of the highlights of his days, he wouldnât mind if it happened often. if jihoon sees younghaâs apartment as a safe space, then heâd be more than elated to provide.
seeing jihoon hurting like this, with youngha unable to do anything to appease the other, brings a heavy feeling to settle on his chest. youngha eases a little when jihoon sits down, concentrating on his friend as he struggles to speak, noting down every word in his head. he frowns when jihoon buries his face into his own handsâhe almost moves to hold the other tightly, but he stops himself. with jihoonâs state, he doesnât to do something that might push jihoon away, to suffocate the other when heâs already going through a lot. as he tries to think of something to do, jihoon speaks. although the other didnât finish his sentence, leaving some speculation in the airâfor youngha, it was enough.
and that reveal shattered his heart into pieces.
for a moment, youngha doesnât know what to say. unfortunately, his mind works to paint the picture regardless, the image of jihoon weeping under the hands of a shadowed figure clear in his head. heâs furious, unable to comprehend how a fatherâwith the duty to protect their childâwould ever commit such heinous acts. worst of all, he canât believe jihoon has to go through something like this, to feel unsafe in his own home. at this moment, youngha canât hold himself backâhe doesnât stop himself when his arms move before his mind could catch up, wrapping jihoon up in a soft hug. there are tears stinging the corner of his eyes, his heart heavy and his tongue twisted, still not knowing the right words to say, finding it difficult to figure out how to comfort jihoon.
but he wants to try. jihoon came to him, so he has to do something.
âiâm so sorry, hoonie... you donât deserve thatâi hope you know that youâve done nothing to warrant that sort of treatment.â he reels himself in after he pulls himself together, taking a deep breath in an attempt to calm himself down. jihoon needs himâhe canât cry in front of the other, not right now. âthank you... for trusting me enough to tell me.â gently, he pats jihoonâs head, trying to muster a smile. âyou did so well, you were so brave for reaching out to me. iâm so proud of you, you did the right thing, alright?â
everything is starting to make senseâwhy jihoon suddenly disappeared, why the other seem to be just a little bit different ever since. yes, people grow and changeâbut when youâve been hurt by those who are meant to keep you safe, sometimes that sticks with you for a long time. youngha has no doubt this applies to jihoon as well. how long has jihoon been suffering all alone, with no one to help him? the thought merely brought youngha a new found motivationâyoungha will be here now, heâll do everything within his power to aid jihoon, to hopefully show the other the road to recovery. the process will be slow, they might make a few wrong turns, but heâs determined to take jihoon out of that situation.
âhoonie... can you look at me?â he asks with a gentle voice. âi need to check for injuries, if thatâs okay? i donât want you to keep hurting, if you donât want to go to the hospital... at least let me take a look?â heâs pleading a little, even if it sounds pathetic. âi have something lying around here, leftovers from when i injured myself playing soccer. i can help youâso, please let me help you.â
