The Secrets of Sir Richard Kenworthy - ch. 14
I'm so disappointed. I spent the last 13 chapters connecting with one specific version of each of the main characters only to end up here reading about two vastly different from what I got used to people.
Their words stopped making sense. The reasons behind what they were saying became completely unclear. And suddenly we ended up in an argument, which, yeah, should have happened at some point, but certainly not now, in this very absurd way....
On top of that, they mentioned some very unpleasant scenes from a random book the author came up with, which, honestly, were purely disgusting, completely unnecessary and believe it or not, gory as well. Like, for example, they said that one of the characters in this fictional author's series of books died after being pecked to death by pigeons and another one died after being shot in the head by a dog?! Why was this necessary for the plot?? Why was this necessary for them to have that conversation?? What was the point of this being mentioned in a historical romance book instead of a horror or thriller one?? And without any warnings as well!!... I have read so many historical romances before but I swear I have never felt as disgusted, disappointed and frustrated before as I am now.
That's why I really can't understand what the author was thinking while writing this chapter?! And more importantly, why her editor or close beta reader friend or someone in general who was reading the scripts, never said anything about how absurd and rush everything here is??
...I really enjoyed this book at the beginning... But now I am no longer sure if I am gonna be able to finish it 🤦♀️
