I had a deadline the other night. Â I had to finish a new song, well two new songs. Â I actually have a third one that I haven't finished yet -- that's my next and final project to complete for this album. Â I asked for this, I swear. Â I asked to be challenged, broken, stretched, and all the other stuff that makes you grow.
The process of songwriting has always been a slippery process, filled with many a challenge. Â I'd say I'm a free spirit with a control freak as my dominant alter-ego, so I'm always battling to stay free and let the flow happen organically, but I think like many artist (or people, for that matter), we do want to put our best foot forward and be regarded as worthy and smart individuals with great things to say. Â And maybe it's my perfectionist/anal Virgo cusp self that bullies me into editing everything in my head before it comes out. Â It's a fucking battlefield in my head, and when co-writing with someone I'm close to, they get to be a part of that battle.

Sunday if it takes me this long to put her up - but here she is in one of my favorite photos from my book, Vintage Black Glamour.
