Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.

Two Weeks Notice.
I've been back in Provo for two weeks and so much has happened.
- I'm finally unpacked.
- Attended all my classes and feel pretty good about what this semester has in store.
- I've been up to Salt Lake three times.
- Got to dress up and pretend to be a mega movie producer at a murder mystery party.Â
- Witnessed the baptism of a dear high school friend, Jonathan Makua.
- Attended the BYU Presidential Inauguration and was therefore in the same room as  President Thomas S. Monson and quite a few other General Authorities.Â
- Received my calling: FHE mom. Pretty excited.
- Went to my first ESPN broadcasted BYU football game on 9/11 and became a part of the "card stunt" spelling out "We Will Never Forget".
- Went to Stake and Regional Conference.Â
- And attended the wedding reception of my friends Nick and Larissa.Â
I am so grateful to attend Brigham Young University. I know that this is the Lord's school. I have the great opportunity to study under divine organization. Now only to remember that continually through all late night study sessions and seemingly overwhelming amounts of homework for the next two years. ;)

World meet SkyeLynn Rhea Evans. She is my first adopted niece and I'm obsessed! Her beautiful mother is my dearest friend Jessica. Not only is she the best friend anyone could have asked for but she also makes the CUTEST babies ever-- and that's not me being partial at all; truth is just truth. ;)
I was lucky enough to have a week with her before I left, but I'm excited that I will see her again in just over a month. She has grown so much in the last three weeks that I cannot wait to see how big she will be by then.Â
The first road trip for the mom's and me was definitely an adventure. We left at 18:45 AST on Friday, August, 29th, 2014 and finally returned to Provo at 13:30 MST on Monday, September 1st, 2014. The weather determined our travels quite a bit through Canada. When we arrived in Prince Rupert it was a bit moist but not quite raining. While sitting in line for an hour to get through the border crossing we helped a fellow traveler by jumping their battery. (This helped out much later, as you will see.) Well, when we finally started driving it was 03:00 PST and raining. This coupled with the fact that we were a bit tired after not sleeping sufficiently on the ferry, we decided to stop in Terrace, BC at a cheap motel for the night. We were back on the road at 10:00 and made our way to Prince George.
When in Canada you just have to stop for some Jim Horton's breakfast followed (hours later) by some MCD's & Poutine for lunch.  It was also during this leg that my mother made me name my car. Therefore, she was forever forward be known as Milly--for the millions of miles we will hopefully travel together.
The weather was, of course, gorgeous until we were about 45 minutes out of the Jasper National Forest when it started raining... again. Having done my fair share of driving in the rain of Ketchikan, I'm not usually bothered by it; except for the fact that the Canadian road paint is not the same reflective type that we use in the States. As there were absolutely no vacancies in the hotels of the park, we pulled to the side of the road--with many others--to sleep in the car. Surprisingly, we fit okay in Milly, as shown by the picture above. We slept about six hours and were back on the road at 04:00. Mom drove through the Park (pictures of that will come in another post).
As it was Sunday and we were driving through Calgary, I really wanted to stop by and see the Temple. This was actually relatively easy because we could see it from the Highway. A city on a hill truly cannot be hid, at least from these crazy, determined tourists. We made it through the border not long after and saw the biker with his beloved dog. They had traveled like that for over 50,000 miles already and were on their way to Las Vegas. Super awesome to see.
If you noticed, we were doing pretty good with no major hiccups until.... Only about 60 miles from Helena, Montana Milly got a flat tire. Having helped my father change tires before I knew exactly what to do--however, my mother did not. She is very good at holding lug-nuts though, I'll give her that much! (Love ya, Mom!!) It being Labor day weekend we were kind of freaking out about getting our tired fixed in Helena, but we found an amazing man who was open and helped us in a jiffy! Good deeds do not go unnoticed! I'm positive that helping that couple jump their car in Prince Rupert is why we were so blessed! In all that we only lost one hour of our drive time.
We made it to Jolynda and Zack's in Rexburg, Idaho by 22:30 and went right to bed on the floor of the living room. The next morning we were back on the road about 09:00. We of course had to stop at Chipotle for lunch in Sandy, Utah on the way, so we were home in Provo around 13:30. I went to class Tuesday while my mom did a little shopping. After class we drove to Salt Lake and stayed in a hotel for the night before I brought her to the airport on Wednesday morning where the final picture was taken. We did it safely and didn't kill each other; so all in all it was a great time and I know have so many treasured memories of our mother-daughter adventure. :)
I rarely get the opportunity to go on excursions but I was so blessed to go out to Neets Bay with Promech Air last week and see these big guys (the largest was over 350lbs). They didn't seem to mind us at all they just enjoyed the salmon all around. I am blessed to spend the summers in a place where this is possible.Â
My first ever float plane ride and I got to sit in the cock pit! Thanks to Simon and Laura at Promech I was able to go out on this excursion. The day was absolutely beautiful and then I got to see some huge bears--pictures to follow.

Those suummmmmmer niiighhts! (Yes, as in the song from Grease)
Ketchikan has seen some spectacular sunsets this summer.... Man, say that sentence ten times fast. ;)
Sights among these are why I keep returning to AK. Moments like this take my breath and remind me of the bigger picture. I know they are gifts from my Heavenly Father.Â
D&C 59:18 Â states: "Yea, all things which come of the earth, in the season thereof, are made for the benefit and the use of man, both to please the eye and to gladden the heart;" Â (can found on LDS.org).
I know that God has created this earth for us, His children, and He shows forth His great power and love through moments like these.
I am so grateful to have grown up in such a magnificent place and that I have the opportunity to return in the summer to enjoy even more moments of majesty.Â
The prodigal son returns… Finally!!
This is my brother, Lee Louis. He hasn’t been back to Ketchikan in a few years. So this was a rare and fun week. He brought up his good friend Cole McKinney, Cole’s dad Jimmy, Jimmy’s friend George, and Cole’s grandpa David. They of course spent a few days out on the water and brought home over 60 fish(220 lbs).
I was blessed to be able to take them out on a tour of Saxman Native Village on Friday. It made my day at work so much fun.
They lucked out with the weather. They only saw the true Ketchikan rain on Friday afternoon. But they spent the rest of their trip in the sun—they even got burnt while out on the water. Badge of honor for sure!
It was a great week spending time with the big bro back in good ol’ Ktown.
Always waiting on those Dam Ships...
Well at least that's the joke. With ships like the Amsterdam, Oosterdam, Volendam, Westerdam, Zaandam, and Zuiderdam what more to you expect.
For the past two summers I have worked as a driver guide for Holland America Princess--Alaska Yukon. It has it ups and downs.
Here is a taste of what my summer job is like.
Ups
I get to talk with people from all over the world everyday; hopefully spreading joy during their vacation.
I get to share what my life has been like growing up in Ketchikan.
I give tours about the native culture here and help others to understand and love the native people.Â
I get to be in Alaska with my friends and family for four months.
I get to see and enjoy the things that delight my soul: real Alaskan beauty.Â
Downs
The mornings are early and the days are long, so I get a bit tired.
I say practically the same thing at least 10 times a day and that gets very boring. You may tell me then that I should say something different. Well problems come with that. When you deviate from the norm you lose track of what you have and have not said so you end up saying something for the second time to the same group (and that is no fun for anyone involved).Â
Even though I am in the same town as my parents I don't see them as often as I would like. This is due to my busy schedule with work and YSA activities.Â
I guess the fact that I don't have as many downs as ups means that coming back this summer was a good decision. I have had a lot of fun this year with my coworkers and other YSA. I have learned much this summer about so many aspects of my life. The Lord's plan is greater than our own; and all will work out for the best.Â
Well here we go...
First off, I’m horrible at writing down my life as I tend to live in the moment and try not to dwell much in the past. Which seems a bit ironic seeing as how I hope to one day receive a few anthropological degrees.
I grew up in Ketchikan, AK; or better known as “Nowhere.” A small coastal town at the bottom of the Alexander Archipelago full of rich history and culture; majestic wildlife and national monuments; and most of all RAIN!
Growing up in the midst of such greatness built a passion in me to learn about those who have walked and experienced this magnificent world before myself.
Therefore, as I hope to learn from the records left behind by others; it’s only fair I leave my own record here. Forewarning: I cannot promise diligent posting as I’m pretty bad at taking the to time to sit down and write.
