There is nothing wrong with a Christian being a vegetarian, vegan or enjoying to eat meat. The Bible does not command us to eat meat any more than it commands us to only eat vegetables. What the Bible does say is that we should not force our convictions about this issue on other people or look down on them by what they eat or do not eat. Romans 14:2-3 tells us, “One man’s faith allows him to eat everything, but another man, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables. The man who eats everything must not look down on him who does not, and the man who does not eat everything must not condemn the man who does, for God has accepted him.”

As an example of a doubtful thing, Paul looks at those who refuse to eat meat for a spiritual reason. Perhaps they refused it because they feared it was meat sacrificed to a pagan god (as in 1 Corinthians 8). Perhaps they refused the meat because it wasn’t kosher, and they stuck to Jewish dietary regulations and traditions.

Because some Christian saw nothing wrong in this meat and others saw much wrong in it, this was a burning issue among believers in Paul’s day. While the issue of not eating meat for spiritual reasons is no longer directly relevant to most Christians today, there are plenty of issues where some believers believe one way and others believe differently.

In Paul’s mind, the weak brother is the stricter one. It wasn’t that they were weaker in their Christian life because of what they ate or didn’t eat, but they were weaker because of their legalistic attitudes and lack of love towards others.

Undoubtedly these weak ones did not see themselves as weaker. It’s likely they thought they were the strong ones, and the meat-eaters were the weak ones. Legalism has a way of making us think that we are strong and those who don’t keep the rules the way we do are weak.

God gave humanity permission to eat meat after the flood (Genesis 9:3) and God has never rescinded this permission. In the Old Testament law, the nation of Israel was commanded not to eat certain foods (Leviticus 11:1-47), but there was never a command against eating meat. Jesus declared all foods, including all kinds of meat, to be clean (Mark 7:19). Jesus Himself was not a vegetarian. The Bible records Jesus eating fish (Luke 24:42-43) and lamb (Luke 22:8-15). Jesus miraculously fed the crowds fish and bread, a strange thing for Him to do if He was a vegetarian (Matthew 14:17-21). Also, in a vision to the apostle Peter, Jesus once again declared all foods to be clean, including animals (Acts 10:10-15).

I hate the Xenophobic, racist white folks at my Dad’s job for abusing their power to withhold his money and shut him out.

I hate the drunk white girls who have touched and pulled my hair without permission.

I hate each and every white person that has asked me to teach them to dougie/twerk.

I hate every white person that has asked if I wanna be a rapper or play a sport.

I hate the old white woman that called me a “n****r prostitute” while I was minding my business and shuffling along to class.

I hate my Dad’s ex-boss for looking at my body in a sexual manner when I was 13 years old bc black girls don’t get childhoods. I hate him for doing it in front of my father.

I hate the white people that hate the Blackout bc they think it’s racist to celebrate yourself and they can’t fathom that not everything is for/about them.

I hate the white men that ruined my time abroad in Italy with verbal and sexual assault because I was a black girl.

I hate all the white girls that tried to write off the aforementioned assault as ‘no big deal’ because ‘at least I was getting attention’.

I could literally go on but the point I’m trying to make is that I hate white supremacy and if you actively uphold it in any way, shape, or form, then–well, you get the hint I’m sure.
