Hello anon! I think it’s very understandable to still be wary of groups. It’s difficult to approach people we don’t know to begin with, and I think negative past experiences make it three times harder. I’m also really sad to hear you had to go through those experiences in the first place, and I really hope you don’t have to ever again while going forward. I am really super grateful for the compliment and I hope very much to talk with you soon!

I would like to just say that just because a group of people regularly interact with each other doesn’t mean they are a clique. A clique is defined as: ’a small group of people, with shared interests or other features in common, who spend time together and do not readily allow others to join them.’ While the popular opinion is that cliques are the norm in RP, I feel this behavior actually only applies to one or two groups and not at all to the whole community. I myself usually interact with the same group of people, mainly because I am friends with them ICly, but we are always welcoming to new people who may say hello or join us in a group activity (rabbits, plug.dj, group chats). I have also entered into these group activities not knowing anyone, and 9 times out of 10 have been welcomed and treated well. I know it can be very intimidating to approach people who seem to have all their own inside jokes and history together, but I highly recommend that instead of mislabeling them as a ‘clique’ and be upset, you attempt to talk to them instead. Plus, keep in mind that any link to a group activity posted on the dash is usually because people want others to join and is not exclusive. I really encourage people to interact with others, regardless if they seem to be within a certain group of people, because chances are they will be happy to have someone new to RP with and will be very welcoming. And because I feel this so strongly, I am willing to break the ice by putting my name on this.
