“All right,” I finally said. “My shift ends at six. You can pick me up at my house at seven.”

Dean nodded. “Okay. Seven it is.”

I scribbled my address on a napkin and slid it across the counter for him. “You’d better show up. Or else I’ll be forced to believe you were never real to begin with.”

“Me? Stand you up?” Dean made a pfft noise. “I’d have to be stupid to do that.”

A/N: What is it with me and one shots that turn into series??? Anyways, this is my first Sam series, and I have to give a huge shoutout to my beta @idjitmonkey​ for helping me to avoid Sam sounding like Dean (#DeanGirlProblems). This is the THIRD AND FINAL PART (ahhhhh!!!!) of the series for @impala-dreamer​ and @idreamofhazel​ ‘s Sam fic challenge. My prompt is the quote “We are far from perfect, but we are good.” I was finally able to use it in this part! :) Thanks for coming on this long and twisting journey with me!

Part 2

You didn’t say one word. Not one word.

Dean tried to get you to speak, to react, to show that you were still with them all the way home, because that’s who Dean was. He was the last one to stop trying. But Sam and Bobby knew better. They knew there was no coming back from whatever had happened to you. At least not now.

“She’s basically living in a sort of conscious coma,” Bobby said. They had you arranged in a comfortable manner in your bed, sitting up, staring out the window at nothing. “That’s how the other victims were. Not right away, but some of them later on did this exact same thing. It was all over the papers. They’d be triggered by something, get a burning sensation in their head, and go catatonic.”

“So she can’t hear anything we’re saying?” Sam asked.

“Don’t know. But she’s unresponsive.”

A/N: Angst and feels ahead (don’t let the fluff at the beginning fool you!), so consider yourself warned. ;)

You giggled as he continued to dance his fingers across your sides, goosebumps rising all along your exposed skin as the oversized t-shirt you’d taken to sleeping in rode up. It was one of his, of course. You loved the way the smell mix of whiskey and gunpowder, of him, lulled you to sleep.

“S-stop!” You squealed, squirming away from him as he laughed. He’d always delighted in teasing you. “Dean! I’m s-serious!”

“Come on, you should expect this by now. I do it every morning.” He started to pepper your face with kisses as he tickled you so it was even harder to get away.

“Dean Winchester, if you don’t back the hell up, I’ll stick a mackerel somewhere in Baby where you won’t find it until winter.”

It took all the strength you had to raise your arm. Just that simple motion, the hinge of your elbow coming in so your fist could hover in the air, felt impossibly difficult. Your hand was heavy. Heavier than it had ever been. It’ll be okay, you kept telling yourself. Everything’s going to be okay.

It was Bobby, after all. Bobby made everything a little more okay.

What would he say to you, after all these years? How would he react to seeing you on his doorstep once again? Would he even let you stay? Or would he just slam the door in your face?
