Superpod 7 has sadly been cancelled due to the ongoing issues of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, I did want to share the design I made for SP7. Perhaps it may be used in the future, perhaps not. 

The photos include some of the worst rakes I’ve seen (on Kalina), evidence of Tilikum’s pills, Taima’s prolapsed uterus, trainer standing on a baby beached Malia, and more horrible things. They are presumably from a former SW employee (who wanted to remain anonymous, according to the FB page). Chilling stuff. Didn’t want to repost cause I’m not sure if I’m allowed.

For a quick synopsis, this is centered on the 18 belugas that were originally destined for Georgia Aquarium, and other US marine parks.

50 years ago today (Dec 11, 1969), Corky was captured and her life changed forever. Check out the new promo video for the Corky documentary I’ve been helping with.  “The Corky documentary tells Corky’s story - her capture off the coast of British Columbia in 1969, her life at Marineland of the Pacific, and her time spent since at SeaWorld San Diego. It also shows us the many lives she has touched with her own. Hear from people who were there for the capture. Learn about Marineland of the Pacific, the first oceanarium on the west coast, and its huge role in Corky’s life. You will meet Dr. Paul Spong and Helena Symonds of OrcaLab, who tell of their decades-long advocacy for Corky, the longest-held orca in captivity. This film’s incredible footage takes us underwater, to see an orca’s world; to the wild coasts of British Columbia to meet the Northern Resident Killer Whales; to places and events in history that have never before been seen to this extent. Many people lend their voices to Corky’s story in this educational documentary. Interviews include information about the unique culture, dialect, and social structure of the Northern Residents. Also showcased is the heartwarming mile-and-a-half-long Corky Freedom Banner created by children from all over the world in the late 1990s. The Banner has thousands of messages of love for Corky and hopes for her return to her home waters in Canada. You will see Double Bay on Hanson Island in Canada, a potential sea sanctuary site for Corky. You will learn about other sea sanctuary projects that are currently being planned and developed for orcas, belugas, and dolphins, which could lead to the thrilling possibility of cetaceans being retired to sea sanctuaries to live out the remainder of their lives in a more natural habitat under human care. Reposting this both to detach it from an undesirable reblog and for the benefit of people who may not be aware of these facts: Rough timeline of BWP cancellation items: October 8 2015 - CCC Hearing w/Approval + Breeding Restriction October 9 2015 - Seaworld found the restriction disagreeable October 15 2015 - Seaworld announces intent to sue CCC November 9 2015 - Seaworld investor presentation subtly implies cancellation December 29 2015 - Lawsuit against CCC filed, Manby “said even if SeaWorld wins, the previously announced expansion in San Diego may not go forward” x March 17 2016 - Seaworld announces orca breeding cessation, + statements of ‘existing habitat’, etc Mid-April 2016 - Seaworld withdraws BWP application Reading between the lines it’s pretty obvious what happened there. They way exceed any government standard. And we felt that instead of spending hundreds of millions of dollars to expand the size, since they are already very large compared to others, we want to focus our time, our effort, and our money on enhancing the existing facilities and taking some of the best from the Blue World and putting it into our existing facilities, and the taking that money and putting it into our other animals and our rescue operations.”  Enhancements to rescue operations and animal habitats are not mentioned in any presentation I have seen to date. Seaworld did.

Inktober day 11 is the Ahklut. In Inuit mythology, Akhlut is a spirit that takes the form of both a wolf and an orca. Eskimo say they know that this change takes place as they have seen wolf tracks leading to the edge of the sea ice and ending at the water, or beginning at the edge of the water and leading to the shore. These animals are said to be very fierce and to kill men. Often, dogs seen walking to the ocean and/or into it are considered evil
