Harry and Draco barely noticed the sound of the Floo coming to life in the living room fireplace. They’d been kissing softly, arms wrapped around each other, waiting for Ron and Hermione to stop by for tea.

Apparently, they’d lost track of time. It was the sound of Ron’s sharp screech startled them apart instantly.

Harry and Draco hadn’t been lying, per se, about recently - months ago - becoming more than just friends. They’d just been enjoying their privacy.

“Do you reckon if we ignore them long enough, we can pretend they didn’t see us?” Draco whispered.

"Hermione come on! You can't just drag me into the library against my will!" Harry whined as they pushed through the wide double doors, his hand hanging limply from where his best friend clutched his wrist. "We've talked about this! Forcing your friends to study is just mean!"

Hermione rolled her eyes, but did not stop. "I'm not forcing you to study. But you need to be quiet now, okay?"

"Why would I-" A glimpse of bright blonde hair caught his attention. Hermione tugged sharply on his wrist again, this time leading him down an aisle where they just barely avoided being spotted by that particular Slytherin.

Together, they weaved through the aisles, Hermione's various twists and turns giving Harry the impression that they were getting closer. His stomach flipped.

"Hey!" Harry whispered sharply. "What are we doing!?"

She stopped. "I was in here studying when I heard them, and I had to come get you so you could hear it for yourself. Now shut up, and let's go," Hermione snipped, her voice also low.

Not a moment later, they were leaning very, very carefully against a bookshelf listening closely to the conversation happening on the other side.

"Pansy, I really should go to the Hospital Wing," Draco was saying. "It can't be normal for one's knees to feel weak! And my face was definitely warm in class earlier! Right around the same time that my breathing went shallow!"

"Draco!" It sounded then like Pansy smacked him with something like a book. "How many times do I have to tell you in a single, five-bloody-minute conversation that you're not ill?"

"Then, please, explain it to me."

"You really want to know what's happening to you today?"

Draco said nothing, the answer too obvious to merit a response.

Pansy sighed audibly. "Alright, fine. Harry Potter walked into Potions after the summer holiday with a new haircut and a permanent smoulder, and you haven't learned how to cope yet. Happy?"

"Scorpius, darling, go set the table, please. Your father and I will be there in just a moment," Draco said softly, gaze focused downward at the three dinner plates he was preparing.

"Okay!" The brightly smiling, blonde six-year-old grabbed napkins and silverware and bounded toward the dining room. Once he was out of earshot, Harry came up from behind to wrap his arms tightly around his husband's waist.

Draco's head fell back, resting gently on Harry's shoulder for a second. "You're sure we should tell him tonight?"

"I'm sure we're running out of time. She'll be here in - what - two months?"

"Just about, yeah." Draco sighed and turned around in Harry's arms. "The pancakes will help, surely?"

Harry smiled fondly. "You could tell our child anything, and as long as there's a plate of pancakes in front of him, he'll take it well. Plus, there's chocolate chips this time."

With a single nod and a quick kiss, Draco felt ready. As ready as possible, at least.

A moment later, the pair sat down in their usual seats at the four-person dining table. Scorpius dug in as soon as his plate was put in front of him, not concerned with much else.

They stalled for several minutes, asking how his piano lessons with Aunt 'Mione were going and what he'd been coloring lately.

When there wasn't much else to talk about, Harry shifted the conversaation. "So, Scorp…"

"Yeah, dad?" His head popped up.

"You know, how all of your cousins are brothers and sisters to each other?" Harry continued.

Scorpius nodded like this was old news.

a byler one-shot that resolves paintinggate and lettergate.

i’ve been turning this theory over in my head since the release of the vol 1 trailer, and it’s finally coming together.

it’s already been said that a lot of inspiration for this series has been drawn from the works of stephen king. i want to talk specifically about the second dark tower book, the drawing of the three.

the premise of this book is that roland, our main character and leader of the quest, has to go through three different doors to find other people who will help him complete his quest for the dark tower.

when i saw this shot in the trailer…

it immediately reminded me of this book because that is the same exact door style of the ones roland has to go through.

i also found more connections to the book in its synopsis:

and “…a world that is a nightmarishly distorted mirror image of our own…”

(that’s not super relevant to my point in this post, but i think it’s cool)

anyway, this has to do with the time travel theory.

along with some pretty obvious pieces of dialogue from other points in the series, the ud being stuck on nov 6th 1983, and other aspects of the theory that i’ve read, i was already very highly confident (pre vol1 trailer) that time travel will somehow be involved.

this is just further evidence.

let me be clear: these doors lead to three different time periods.

vecna has four different identities that we’ve seen.

- henry creel

- 001

- mr. whatzit

- vecna

in the vol2 trailer, we see these identities glitching and forming into one single being, which ends up being vecna.

we also see max and holly go through the door (the same way roland does).

my working theory is that max and holly are the critical points here. they’ll need to go through the door, coming across the other three versions of him.

they’ll need to fix the timeline in order for all of vecna’s identities to catch up with one another, meaning he can finally be defeated.

for that, i’m also drawing inspiration from harry potter. think of how voldemort couldn’t be defeated until all of the horcruxes were gone.

once there’s only one piece of the puzzle left, then the villain can finally be killed.

so it’s crucial for all of these different version of vecna to merge and create just one final being.
