Every three months, Future Shorts HQ in London puts together a feature-length programme of some of the best classic, cult and award-winning short films from around the world. From 1 October to 31 December 2012, the Autumn Programme will feature 5 short films and explore hope and despair in human life in the metropolis. Selected short programming includes: “A Brief History of John Baldessari”, from the directors of CATFISH and narrated by Tom Waits; “Rite” nominated for BAFTA Best Short Film and Winner of Sundance’s Short Filmaking Award; “The Black Balloon”, Winner of Special Jury Mention at Tribeca Film Festival; “Café Regular” and “Auf Der Strecke” winner of over 50 international awards.

Satellite will be screening 'The Eye of Dubai' (47min 20sec) – the recently completed black and white & part colour film that recalls Jankowski’s first trip to Dubai. It is accompanied by a television documentary, from the BBC World News series Collaboration Culture, which follows the process of the making of Jankowski’s film. The artist and his film crew remained blindfolded until the moment of the first glimpse of their film on the last night of their trip. The crew was led by their local guide, Rami Farook, who took them to undisclosed locations he personally selected. The work, 'The Eye of Dubai', is currently showing at Friedrich Petzel Gallery in NYC, as part of Jankowski’s solo exhibition DISCOURSE NEWS. The episode of Collaboration Culture documenting Jankowski’s blind film production will be transmitted by BBC World News on July 21st (GMT 00.30, 07.30) and 22nd (GMT 12.30 and 18.30). It will be streaming live at Satellite on Sunday, July 22nd at 9:30pm. Emirati/German Suhoor snacks will be served.

Winner of the 2012 International Grand Prix at Clermont -Ferrand, Guest is a beautifully acted coming-of-age portrayal of emotions from Korean National University of Arts’ film program. Notes on Biology Dir: Will Madden United States - 2011 6mins A stop motion animation, Notes on Biology was the winner of Best Short at SXSW. This very clever short film brought to us by Ornana Films follows a student’s imagination during a Biology class. We’ll Become Oil Dir: Mihai Grecu Romania - 2011 6mins A winner at Tampere Film Festival, this experimental documentary inspired by the Golf of Mexico oil spill describes the effect of conflict in geographical spaces. Street Vendor Cinema Dir: Clarissa Knoll Brazil - 2011 15mins A short film producer sells filmmaking on demand in the busiest shopping street of Brazil. The outcome is an extraordinary mix of genres, from a samurai epic to a family melodrama, all born out of popular fantasy shaped amid the market's chaos. Tumult Dir: John Barrington United Kingdom - 2011 13 min A tribe of norse warriors traipses across a barren land after battle. Their dying chief is about to hand over power to his son when an army of a completely different kind descends upon them. Fireworks Dir: Victor Hugo Duran United States - 2011 11mins Growing up in Los Angeles, the fourth of July was always about fireworks. Against the holiday backdrop in South L.A., Fireworks is a coming-of-age story of twoadolescent boys on a quest to impress a group of girls.

Award-winning filmmaker Mahmoud Kaabour followed Deniz Üster, Fayçal Baghriche, Magdi Mostafa, Hadeyeh Badri, Nasir Nasrallah and Zeinab Alhashemi, together with resident curator, Alexandra Macglip, through the last weeks of the residency as they reflected on their inspirations, impressions of Dubai, and their personal processes of creating art. This annual residency is the result of a close collaboration between Art Dubai, Delfina Foundation (London), Dubai Culture and Arts Authority and Tashkeel. AiR Dubai 2012, the documentary, was commissioned by Tashkeel, directed by Mahmoud Kaabour and produced by Veritas Films, 2012. Panel discussion representatives include: Khalil Abdulwahid, Zeinab Alhashemi, Hadeyeh Badri, Antonia Carver, Mahmoud Kaabour, and Khalid Mezaina.

This event is a part of Collaboration Culture, a new series on BBC World News which pairs twelve creative people from around the world and invites them to collaborate. Berlin artist Christian Jankowski's mischievous and witty approach to art has made him one of the most exciting and celebrated contemporary artists in the world today. Initially a performance artist who put himself centre stage, today Christian works almost exclusively in collaboration with a range of people in and outside the art world. From convincing a Christie's auctioneer to strip off and sell his clothes, to filming representatives from the Vatican judging an X Factor style search for an actor to play Jesus, Christian constructs situations that require his subject to be complicit in his work. For a recent commission for the Frieze art fair in London, Christian collaborated with a luxury yacht manufacturer to attempt to sell a bespoke €65m boat either for its regular price or for an additional €10 million in order to have the yacht named Jankowski and have the artwork certified by the artist as an original.
