okay hello! i can’t believe we’re getting a fourth show after all these years!! however, with the announcement of the new show, i’ve been seeing a lot of misinformation, and i just wanted to clear things up!
i’ve seen a lotttt of comments saying they refuse to watch the show because of joe mallozzi’s direct involvement, and listen, i am not here to police and bully anyone into giving the new show a try lol. i am simply here to clear up some misconceptions that i feel are necessary to allow people to have all the facts.
Martin Gero (writer of 2 episodes in Stargate sg1, executive producer, supervising producer, and writer on Atlantis and consulting producer and writer of 2 episodes of Universe) is the creator, head writer, and showrunner of the new stargate show. for better or for worse, i’m sure most stargate fans recognize his name. obviously, gero has a lot to atone for in terms of atlantis’ mistreatment of women & poc as it’s notoriously the most misogynistic of the 3 shows! a lot of people still hold resentment towards the atlantis writers for mistreatment, and yeah! they fucked up. no excuse.
since stargate, gero has worked as showrunner for Blindspot, and worked as an executive producer for Keep Breathing and the Quantum Leap reboot. and now i’ll be honest, i don’t know much about him personally, so if any old fandom heads want to add more information on him or any the shows he’s worked on recently, feel free!
Now the executive producers for the show, as of this moment, include Joby Harold (The Flash, Obiwan Kenobi, and Awake), his wife Tory Tunnell (Awake, Spinning Out, and Monarch: Legacy of Monsters), Dean Devlin (Stargate 1994, and the Librarian franchise), and Roland Emmerich (Stargate 1994, Independence Day, and 2012). i gotta say it’s not surprising to see the last two names on this list considering how hard the two of them tried to make another stargate movie (my personal theory is that MGM & amazon wanted to bring them in to make sure there were no hard feelings because they repeatedly refused to make another movie lol)!
While Brad Wright and Joe Mallozzi will serve as consulting producers. Consulting producers offer guidance and advice on a production and are mainly there to assist with scripts and make sure canon doesn't get all fucked up. that's it lol. as of right now, there are no other writers besides gero, although there are rumors he will be assembling his writing room in january 2026!
Things could very well change in the next few months, but as of right now, Brad Wright and Joe Mallozzi have veryyyy little involvement in the production as opposed to their time on SG1, Atlantis, and Universe. Again, not here to police any feelings (all of them are valid!), i just don't want anyone to automatically assume the worst when there's little information out there as to who is going to be working on the show as the show was Just greenlit and is still in pre-production! in fact, the show probably wont come out until late 2027 or early 2028 (</3)
