“ i believe it all ended after the last of the beat generation, ” she mused, cocking an eyebrow as the woman pulled back. you know, there was an opportunity there for a joke… but she wasn’t going to take it… perhaps it was because it just wasn’t the right time to mention how contemporary female writers were superior to contemporary male writers, or perhaps it was because the moment she was now living in overshadowed it entirely. the moment she was now living in – it was a return; it was a return to something she should have sworn off, but never ‘thought’ to. everyone in her life had been disappointing, what in comparison to what she was now recalling she could’ve had – to what she was having. “ wine is better aged. ” ( now, it wasn’t wine, but the droll sentiment stood. ) the hand that held the bottle slid back and set it down gently – so gently, as if it were in danger of breaking. the sturdy bottle down, she reached back up and let the back of her hand caress sasha’s face, only allowing it to drop back to its original position after she replied, “ then i’m glad i’m not alone. ” everything in her world had turned fake. she, herself, had turned fake. there was so little actuality left – the only thing she knew wasn’t a sham was the relation she held so dear with sasha. it was the one vice she didn’t deprive herself of. it was the one thing about her that was still real – and when the kiss landed, it was true confirmation. she felt real when she felt sasha’s lips. it was as though she was reconnecting with an old friend she hadn’t seen in years, a bittersweet reunion – it would fade, that was something she knew in spite of it all. “ i suppose i came at the right time, then, ” she whispered, leaning in closer, what as though this was their secret. as though this were something no one could know of. now, was her showing up proof enough that she’d missed sasha, as well ??

“i could argue that we are better aged too.” sasha didn't know if she meant it as a statement of them each individually or as a unit- she guessed it was probably a bit of both. they weren’t exactly the same as they had been when they had first entered one another’s lives and, of course, the nature of their relationship was different than it was back then. still, though, they were both falling into the same old habits with one another- so maybe that growth didn’t matter in that moment? she brought her arms to rest on dahlia’s shoulders, pressing her body almost fully against hers, “me too.” her fingers absentmindedly played with the other woman’s hair as she murmured, “you always come at the right time.” whether it was innuendo or just a sweet sentiment, sasha didn’t know for sure. again, probably both. double meanings were apparently becoming her thing. she pressed her lips to the corner of dahlia’s mouth softly, “did you just come over here to stand in my foyer all day?” she chuckled, eyes flitting up to the slightly cavernous room- moreover, space- they stood in, “because we can stay here, but it’s kinda cold and all tiled.” one hand dropped to dahlia’s hand- the one that had formerly held the booze- fingers twining with hers, her other arm staying around her shoulders, “or am i totally wrong to assume why you came over?” she smirked, tilting her head slightly as she regarded the woman in front of her.
