Gwen and Merlin's friendship are literally the cutest thing ever and I hate that it slowly dissapeared π. 'They'd do anything for their lover'- Meh. Boring and overused. Implies romantic love is the most important thing and usually, leads to a plot that is very recycled.
'They'd do anything for their sibling'- Fascinating. Not as popular. Usually has more variety. Automatically brings into the picture one's relationship with other family members, and each other's significant others or the lack thereof. Is usually more complex. Does not take away from the importance of a romantic partner. Shows the power of friendship/ family. Perfect. Give me more.
Just when I though I started to fall in love with syntax (after 2 years of enemies to lovers slow burn) it went and fuck me up again.
I love love love Gwaine but in the last episode I was BEGGING AND SCREAMING for him to stay his ass down in Camelot instead of going after Morgana like an idiot because then maybe Arthur wouldn't die or at least HE wouldn't die π.

no like lancelot was so completely and utterly Merlin's Knight that it's almost embarrassing. this is the guy who spent his WHOLE LIFE since his village was destroyed wanting to be a knight of camelot. a man who values honor. trustworthiness. chivalry. he's the bravest and most noble of them all. and then he meets merlin and two seconds later he's like "Alright i'll go along with your identity theft plan" finds out merlin has magic in the Illegal Magic Kingdom where Magic Is Illegal and doesn't even think of turning merlin in at ALL even though it would probably drastically improve uther's view of him. just goes Okie dokie this is awesome love this for youππ doesn't even fucking BLINK.
and then later he finally does manage to become a knight of camelot, for realsies, no takebacks, kneels on the ground before arthur and swear his allegiance to both him and camelot's laws as a whole, the whole shebang. And then he immediately starts whispering with merlin like two teenagers at a sleepover about what merlin's REALLY going to do and instantly offers his assistance unprompted. "That's why I need to find a way to get to the Cup without Arthur knowing." "Leave that to me." and then the next morning he lies straight to arthur's face about going to take out the warning bell. the FIRST THING he EVER DID as a KNIGHT OF CAMELOT was LIE TO ARTHUR'S FACE so he could AID A SORCERER. TREASON. for MERLIN.
he didn't have to do that! he just could've been like "oh i'll distract arthur so you can go after the cup" NONE OF THAT he was like Obviously i'm going to lie for you. Obviously i'm coming with you. Obviously if there's a veil to the spirit world and i made a vow to gwen that i'd keep arthur safe but merlin got hit by the dorocha i'm going to immediately abandon my vow in order to look after merlin. Obviously if merlin is healed by water spirits and the vow is Back On but then the moment of truth happens and arthur is actually already safe and sound because merlin knocked him out then that means i'm going to die so merlin specifically doesn't have to. Obviously i'm going to sacrifice myself for him. Obviously i'm not going to just run into the veil but instead turn around to take one last long look at him and smile before i and walk, arms spread, to my death, so i'd remember who i was dying for and why it was worth it. OBVIOUSLY.

ARTHUR WAS SCARED OF BEING LEFT. HE WAS BETRAYED BY EVERYONE HE LOVED. MERLIN WAS TERRIFIED OF BEING SEEN BC OF HIS MAGIC. THIS SONG IS BASICALLY ARTHUR WISHING HE HAD BEEN THERE MORE FOR MERLIN. DID Y'ALL SEE THE VISION?
Am I tripping but the chorus of The Cure by Olivia Rodrigo is so Lancelot???
He found happiness in Camelot if he just not sacrificed himself. Hell, he could have Gwen if he tried. But he gave both of that away. His knighthood and the love of his life, Merlin (gotra sneak this in as a Mercelot shipper lol) his "antidote/medication". Yeah you can say that it's because of his nobility and you'd be right but it's fun to see it in another lens.
Based on the song, maybe the poison and toxins in him is his nobility. Maybe it is his feeling of inadequacy or anything else. I seriously think there's something deeper going on with Lancelot for him to be so self sacrificing and deprecating, I just dont think I understand enough to explore it. But it's there and it's so interesting. Maybe it's the paradox he's living in, that he can only be happy when he's doing things noble things he knew going to hurt himself.

the thing about lancelot is that he IS first and foremost merlin's knight. he's mr. "your secret's safe with me." mr. "oh merlin you need to get to the cup of life? awesome i'm coming with you." mr. "i made a vow to gwen to keep arthur safe but merlin got hit by the dorocha so i am immediately going to abandon both the mission and my vow in order to look after him for however long he needs me. obviously" and it's really funny because nobody expects it from him. the difference between him and gwaine (also merlin's knight) is that he's quiet about it so nobody ever fucking suspects him. if arthur ever gave him an order he'd be like yeah sure alright and do it BUT if merlin pulled him aside to ask him if he would go against the order to cover for him saving the day (as usual) lancelot would be like "Say No More <3" and kronk wrong lever arthur into a pit on purpose. and then he would throw himself into the pit as well like "oh my god sire i am SO SORRY </333 i must've pulled the wrong lever or the rigging was messed up or something </333333 please my lord you have my utmost apologies and you can execute me for my foolishness if you want :((((" and arthur would take one look at his sad little face and be like No lancelot it's not your fault.....You are The Best knight i have and i trust you Completely....that lever must've been Tampered with...with Sorcery.... and merlin saves the day in the background and then he and lancelot go out drinking that night to celebrate

Scrolling through my old Merlin ig fan account and god I was a cringe teenager. But I do know balls cause omg all my edits slaps.
Idk if anyone know but there is like an "unofficial season 6" script of Merlin and I've read it a few years ago after I finished watching Merlin for the first time and it was so good!! Actually healed my newly wounded heart LOL. I don't like reading from screenplay format but the dialogue and the plot for me is very engaging and well written.
Granted it's been a few years since I've read but i stand by it. SPOILERS:
One of my favorite thing about it (other than Morgana's redemption arc and Mergana hehe) is Gwen's character.
I LOVE that she is flawed here. That she is actually allowed to be angry and aggrieved. Gwen had took everything with grace in the show, so I love that she is so raw and unapologetically angry and unforgiving in the script. Some of her quotes when she argued with others are absolutely BADASS. You can tell that she is a queen who lost her husband and ruled for years after that, it's heartbreaking really ππ. Her dialogue with Morgana "you would not break me again" And "yet I am the one who wears the crown", SLAYY.
Which bring me to her relationship with Morgana. Gwen LOATHED Morgana in this and I actually love it. I lowkey hate how other characters think Gwen is being unrational about it. Girl, Morgana literally tortured Gwen, used her body to kill people and killed her brother. Gwen deserve to be fucking pissed and I'm glad she showed it. Yes, Morgana get a redemption arc, but Gwen didn't owe her anything to forgive her that easily.
Also Gwen didn't end up with Arthur in this one. I honestly don't remember who she ended up with but that's another thing about it! It didn't matter who she ended up with because she's not used as a love interest! The quote "Till death do us apart. We died. I'm no longer you wife" Or something like that, I was GAGGED. Like Gwen PLEASE hit me one more time.
In conclusion, I love how angry Gwen is in the script. She is always the peacemaker, etc so it's nice to see her in a new light. Her quotes (the little that I could remember) gagged me guys. She was so fed up with everyone and everything. This is the burn out era she deserves π.
