Fic summary: Biri, an East Blue sailor and cook, enrols in Arlong's crew to stay alive. Her cooking skills, sweet talk and questionable morals help her integrate better than she ever thought possible. Before she knows it, she bears the mark of the saw shark. (Canon x OC galore fic :D)

The winds were picking up, shaking the hedges around the pasture. The sheep had retreated on the other side, huddling close to the paddock. But maybe it had nothing to do with the weather. Maybe it had all to do with the towering fishman armed with two curves swords who'd been pacing up and down the fence the whole morning.
Take had arrived just as the sun rose on Selarres, tired and grumpy. He hadn't intended to swim most of the night. He had intended to drink gin on the beach until he passed out and things stopped being confusing.
And stopped hurting.
And making his anger issues bubble back up.
Not that all this should have surprised Take. He looked at the woolly creatures resting fifty metres away.
"Remember that you can't have nice things," he grumbled to himself.
Who was he kidding? He was a pirate, an orphan, with nothing but a bit of treasure to his name. . He wasn't young either and if people didn't stay before, they weren't gonna now. Add humans to the mix and it was no wonder things had turned out this way. It wasn't the first time but how could he not have learned?
"Your arms sometimes reach out for me in storms at night, you know I see." Well fuck, he was really losing it if he was singing. Maybe it was the scenery. "But love out there it's rarely fair. It's like the shifting of the sea."
"Yohohoho" Shioyaki laughed in a way that mimicked the song's tune.
"What?" Take grumbled. He'd managed to lose him in the village down below, but Shio's sense of smell was too good.
"I always forget how bad your singing is. Poor Bink's Sake."
"Good. It's not..."
"Oh yeah, Biri's Sake. Well, it's supposed to be anyway," Shio sneered.
Really, there was no reason for him to be here but to make him angrier. "Fuck you."
"Fuck you." Shio pointed an accusatory finger at him, frowning. "Do you know how crazy you're acting right now?"
Take blinked. What. The fuck.
"This why you followed me?"
"No, I followed you cause I didn't want you attacking people."
He rolled his eyes. "I didn't attack anyone. The human had it coming."
"Well then I followed you cause you're being a little bitch."
Body Horror: Things that cannot happen in real life.
EX: The Thing, stomach mouths, eyes on hands, etc
Gore: Fresh injuries, often severe.
EX: Severed leg, gutspill, deep gashes, etc
NEITHER: Healed injuries and burns, congenital differences, missing appendages, etc. If I could theoretically go to the store and see that character browsing the isles- It isn't body horror or gore. That's just a person.
*AND the amount of people that tag, not just fictional characters, but real human beings as body horror is staggering. Its not solely a fandom issue, ableism and bigotry against anyone that looks sufficiently "different" is prevalent in real life and has devastating consequences.
Burn scars are not body horror, that includes chemical burn scars.
Prosthetics are not body horror.
NOT having prosthetics is also not body horror.
There is no disability aid that is body horror.
Congenital differences + disabilities are not body horror.
AND acquired differences + disabilities are also not body horror.
Real people are not body horror.
If you are uncomfortable or scared because someone looks different than you that is YOUR PROBLEM. It is your responsibility to get over it, or at the very least not make it everyone else's issue. Play the quiet game.

Please add a note at the top of your fics to specify the reader's gender
Female/feminine reader is the most common, but not everyone reading identifies that way. There is truly nothing worse as a transmasc person than starting a fic, enjoying it, then getting fucking misgendered by a tumblr post if I get into it
On a good day it's mildly irritating, on a bad day it can be genuinely upsetting. I just want to enjoy reading like everyone else
Just a note at the top like "Sukuna x fem!reader" or whatever formatting you want, and if you really wanna push the boat out, tag it as jjk x female reader or whatever the applicable fandom is
And on a related note, please stop putting gender neutral fics in the male reader tags. That isn't a male reader, it's gender neutral. That has its own tag
Please do reblog this if you engage in the reader insert space in any capacity. I want people to see this, to get this on people's dashes, to maybe hopefully create some actual change because it just sucks (and for me has steered me away from reading on tumblr)

Hi! So of course I'm a big fan of your work and the way you understand and interpret the Arlong Pirates. Your story is truly amazing!
So it probably won't come as a surprise that I ask this, but what do you think would be Arlongs view on the fact his child was nothing like him in the terms of character and priorities? What if they didn't want to be a pirate or weren't violent?

It's quite interesting for Arlong... I think there is some part of him that is just so sure of himself (from his upbringing and then all the trauma with Fisher Tiger and Impel Down) that he rarely second-guesses himself. His point of view is the only one he entertains... for the most part.
When it comes to his kin, to his crew, to his family, I feel like he's more flexible than he lets on.
So for a child of his... Hmm... I think he could give a bit of "Garp energy". He wouldn't take their ambitions very seriously if he doesn't consider them interesting or aligned with what he thinks is valuable. However, he would actually be there to raise the kid and not just come around once a month to beat them up.
"Oh really? That's what you want to do? Yeah, great now get back to learning about how a boat works, Sha ha ha!"
But to add a little water to his wine (don't, he'll be pissed), in the context of Arlong Park, there are so many different things going on, there are lots of things that kiddo could be doing or people they could be attaching themselves to. I think Arlong could be a good dad. We know he raised his sister for a while and she has nothing bad to say about that. While the kid would be small, I can see him being quite protective and suddenly, they hit 6 years old and it's "yes little shark, go play in the sea and eat rocks! It will make your teeth stronger"
The thing Arlong would not accept in my opinion is them not being a good fighter (cause fishmen strength) and showing sympathy to humans (outside of Nami). But they probably would be able to swim or sail out of his territory and befriends people outside.
Careful though, Arlong doesn't like treaturous behaviour ;)

When time calls It, Zoro can be very observant of others, despite the popular fanon version of him not paying enough attention to anything ever.
On Arlong Park, he noticed that something was off with Nami when Arlong was describing as a cold hearted person:
He was right in doubting Arlong's characterisation of Nami, and he even risked to drown himself to prove her innocence. He wouldn't do that if didn't read Nami's expression right in the first place. So, let's give him some credit when it comes to reading others.
He's also the first Straw Hat who observed Nami's discomfort when Arlong was mentioned on Fish Man Island arc:
When Nami and co. were reunited with the straw hats on Zou arc, he realised something was off before Nami told them about Sanji:
