Travel Light (Day XXVII/XXVIII): Up in the Air
Berlin-Warsaw-LA? Whoops ā not anymore. Berlin-Munich-LA
Are these Lufthansa pretzels the tastiest snack Iāve ever had in my life, or has this morning just been crazy? Little of column A, little column B.
Like most people nowadays, I get a ton of telemarketing calls. Yes, Iām on the āDo Not Call Registry.ā No, people donāt care.
I had about four hours to sleep before my flight and during that time, three calls came in. Thatās a lot, huh? Maybe that should have been a hintā¦
Thinking they must have been telemarketing calls, I grumbled, rolled over, and tried to go back to sleep. Turns out, the calls were from the airline trying to tell me that my flight had been canceled. (Womp. Womp.)
At 7:00, I checked my emails, made this face: š§, got up to date on the situation, and was told to RUSH OVER to Berlin-Tegel as quickly as I could. Thank goodness, I made it on the first flight. Thank goodness (times two), the second flight worked out as well, despite a very short layover. While waiting in the passport control line, I saw a guy with an American passport and a nervous look on his face. Turns out, he was in the same predicament and was trying to make a flight to Denver.
āThey wouldnāt book us on a flight if they didnāt think we could make the connection,ā he reasoned, only sounding semi-convinced. I told him I had been telling myself the same thing.
*Fast forward ten minutes.* Drenched (but grateful), I made it just in time, after a brisk jog through the Munich airport! I hope Denver man did too.
This blog ends just as it began: in an airplane.
I rarely have Wifi inflight and thatās ok with me. Ā My generation is one of connectivity and constant motion, but I love my āairplane time.ā It lets me reflect, space out, eat pretzels peacefully. While time is suspended, itās easier to reminisce about the last month. Ā My mind wanders long stretches of road and faces Iāve encountered. I stand on my tiptoes and strain my eyes to see into the distance. Sure, I have an iCloud full of to-do lists and tons of goals, but itās impossible to know exactly what is coming up. And isnāt that beautiful? It makes me trust deeper, hope harder. I am excited to step into the next adventure with no possibility of spoiler alerts.
With my whole Herz, thank you for going on this trip with me. Itās been my lifelong dream to tour the world with music and it meant a lot to have you by my side.
See you at the next airport.
Travel light!
