When you think about it, when Songbird is betrayed by V in Firestarter, there's moments where she's clearly not in control of herself. The Blackwall is influencing her and taking advantage of her emotional vulnerability stemming from her disappointment and hurt. I think that's why she lashed out so hard in that lab after the ICEbreaker was activated. She was like a terrified, cornered animal with everyone turned against her. Meanwhile, if V sided with Songbird in Firestarter, she's able to pull herself together a little better knowing she's got someone on her side. Just her and V against the Barghest, the FIA and then Myers. It's easier to carry the weight when V is with her. And then at the shuttle she decides she can't take the guilt and regret anymore and comes clean about the neural matrix. Probably expects V to turn against her now, to be angry like she has every right to be. Instead, V tells her she would have helped anyway had she known the truth. V doesn't call Reed. He would never do the right thing and so it's V that has to do it. So V makes probably one of the most selfless decisions of her life and decides that Songbird needs (and deserves) the cure more than she does. Knows that Songbird should be free after suffering for so long. Her heart was shattered, nay, crushed to pieces, but they'd already come this far. V isn't a quitter. She had no choice but to put Reed down and couldn't bring herself to regret helping Songbird despite everything. And I think she can never really get Songbird out of her head or her heart after she watched the shuttle being launched. Her life would never be the same after Songbird had touched it, touched her very soul.

the way that caitlyn removes the guards from the prison so that vi can get in and so that jinx can leave really shows how far she's come from act one. the most important part of that was the fact that she gave vi a choice. vi and jinx could have just left, and cait could very well have known that it's a possibility that she'll never see vi again.
