In 1955, Houston police tried to humiliate Ella Fitzgerald. Minutes before she was due on stage, officers stormed her dressing room, slapped her with a bogus “gambling” charge for playing cards with her pianist, and dragged her out in handcuffs.

She made bail. Then she walked back into the club and sang.

That was Ella, nicknamed the “First Lady of Song,” but living a life that rarely matched the glamour of her title. Born into poverty, shuffled through foster care, and scarred by segregation, she carried quiet insecurities that her voice was the only part of her people truly valued. Offstage, she hid from the spotlight, knitting between sets and quietly giving money to children’s homes. To her, kindness, not applause, was the real performance.

That Houston arrest laid bare the absurdity of racism, but it also revealed Fitzgerald’s steel. She didn’t rant. She didn’t fold. She sang, turning humiliation into proof that brilliance can’t be caged.

History remembers her velvet voice and crystal-clear phrasing. But her greatest instrument may have been her refusal to break.

The changing of the article title to "Al-Rashid Massacre" is under discussion, and also was in the original post. Someone made the title say humanitarian aid incident when the article was made, but there is serious disagreement. Wikipedia titles cannot be easily edited like the text of the article, and so discussion is needed. This is just how wikipedia works, and when pretty much anyone can edit it you are going to get things like this. This is not a reason to avoid giving money to wikipedia, and while the stuff shown in the original screenshot was very bad, it is being fixed (and fairly rapidly).

It's international women's day. White feminists will tell you the importance of making period products free, but will remain silent when Palestinian women and little girls in Gaza have to use leftover fabric from tents because aid is blocked and they don't have pads.

It's international women's day. White feminists will gladly share fake accusations -which have been debunked- about mass rapes against Israeli women, but will completely ignore the sexual violence and rape threats Palestianian hostages have been and are subjected to in Israeli prisons.

White feminists will scream about women's education and the Taliban -even though they only use it for their Islamophobic agendas, not out of concern- and they will remain silent when we say schools and universities in Gaza have been bombed, and there is an educational crisis.
