maybe it's my perception of canadians as a usamerican, but to me the Baker family is very wholesome and loving, and PB calls his parents multiple times a week to catch up.

samir probably had a great relationship with his dad growing up because he's the only boy. we know he trusts/confides in his parents bc he was scared to tell them about the "sex pariah" business. but in that same vein he probably had really high expectations put on him that he's not meeting in his dads eyes and that creates tension or perceived disappointment.

anton is in the middle but really idk!! the lore we've been given is that he was brought to a lot of dinner parties as a child, has no sisters, and is Jewish. to me he could have maybe been adopted by a nice couple of NY lesbians and doesn't have to deal with daddy stuff at all!!

i think issa's dad (played by Kal Penn) sees her as his princess and she can do no wrong in his eyes (he's correct) BUT issa wants to separate herself from her rich parents and make her own way in the world so maybe she has some resentment there to work through cause her dads always like "issa you don't have to work, issa you don't have to live in that house, issa let me buy you nice things" and she's simply not interested (but will accept the nice things on her birthday/holidays)

and my girl billie gave us almost 0 family lore in season one but don't worry my brain has filled in that gap. TO ME bills has little to no relationship with her dad. I picture her growing up with just her mom and her, if she has siblings I imagine them as significantly older or younger, and if her dad was in the picture at all it was just the occasional visit and phone calls because he was too busy with X. (work, his other family, being a deadbeat)
