Abella summoned Valteil, who once built robots, in order to study mechanical engineering.
(Just as Abella was hitting a wall in her development work, she received an offering meant for the Imperfect Circle from an unhealthy-looking man with long white hair…)
This might honestly be the first time these two have ever appeared together in the same frame.
They’re from completely different eras, and Val is pretty misogynistic, so there’s no way they’d ever actually become friends… but, well… this is fanfiction, so it’s fine, right…?🤔
愛してるよ、、、、、、、、、
I’ve always found it strange that the Lord of Flies can drop a monocle.
Giving the Lord of Flies a monocle specifically seems to clearly suggest Valteil’s influence, doesn’t it?
Since they are obviously not very intelligent, maybe they were imitating “actions that look intelligent” in order to gain even a little bit of attention from their creator.
But Valteil was a human from the 9th century, and I don’t think monocles existed yet at that time.
So where did the Lord of Flies pick up a monocle, and how did it connect that object to its master’s intelligence?
Well, I don’t know if beings without souls would even seek their creator’s attention in the first place.
But if “soul” doesn’t necessarily mean “heart” or “mind,” then maybe it could be possible…?
If so, those smelly fluffy things are a little sad, aren’t they
By the way, I think this is probably a bug, but there’s one Lord of Flies that still runs at the same speed even if you catch it in a bear trap, right?
When you enter combat with it, both of its legs are properly broken.
So when I imagined it forcing itself to move on broken legs and still rushing toward me, it actually creeped me out a lot at the time.

Assuming, of course, that there is no official statement linking the Harvestman and Valteil.
Personally, I don’t strongly believe either way that it was or wasn’t created by Val.
It’s just that, well… you may not have known this, but I actually like Val, so I do sometimes imagine what might have happened if he really did create it.
If the Harvestman was created by Val, the strange thing is that you can obtain a soul from it.
Among Valteil’s creations, the only ones you can get souls from are the Embryos.
I think that is because the Embryos were born from Valteil, but they were not something Valteil “created” in the artistic or artificial sense.
Valteil wanted to create new living beings, but the Embryos were not born through Valteil’s own original method. They were born through the old human method of reproduction, an entirely un-new way of creating life.
To me, that represents a double defeat for Valteil.
The first defeat is that they prove he yielded to physical pleasure.
The second is that the souls he could never manage to create himself could be produced almost too easily through an “old” method.
This is getting a little away from the Harvestman, but since I’m already here, I might as well talk about that too.
I personally think the first Embryo was, at least at first, something Valteil did not intend to create.
After all, Valteil did not want to become the father of one specific child. He wanted to become the father of all of a new humanity.
As a side note, if Valteil had succeeded in creating life, I think he probably would have tried to wipe out the old humans with his own children… which is very cute, right? 笑
From the time Valteil became a god to the time he hanged himself, I think his condition can be divided into three broad stages:
First, the period when he was energetically absorbed in his research.
Second, the period when he reached a dead end, became frustrated, and escaped into physical pleasure.
Third, the period when he abandoned even that and fell into a depressed state. Considering that the mannequins are decayed in present-day Ma’habre, I think it is reasonable to assume that the later Valteil had even given up on pleasures of the flesh.
So, if the Harvestman was Val’s work, I imagined it as something he made between stages two and three.
And I don’t think it was the result of a serious attempt to create a new living being. Rather, I imagined it as something like Valteil lashing out: taking an existing human he had captured, modifying them, and giving them the most grotesque appearance and behavior possible.
In other words, my idea was that you can obtain a soul from him because the original human he was made from had a soul.
This is how I imagine it.
Valteil, in a self-destructive state, looked down at a human the Lord of Flies had captured for him. Val was irritated. His failed son had brought him another piece of trash again.
It was something Val himself had ordered him to do, but that did not matter to Val. He no longer had the energy to think of anything new.
The previous one had annoyed him, so Val had stabbed him over and over with a knife and thrown him away.
Should he do the same this time?
The man was bound to an operating table, looking up at Val with fear and awe.
Then Val suddenly felt the urge to take out his frustration on him. He came up with the idea of modifying him into the ugliest form imaginable. At the same time, he could create a being that would inflict as much fear and pain as possible on other victims.
Perhaps that gave Valteil the slightest bit of comfort during the painful, stagnant period he was trapped in.
Seeing his new creation go out in search of victims, as grotesque and ruined as possible, maybe Val laughed for the first time in a long while.
…Well, that is more or less how I imagined it.
It is only my personal imagination, of course. There are many different ways to think about it, and honestly, I’m not especially attached to my own interpretation on this point either.
There may be some sources I don’t know about, and it’s also possible that I missed something in the game.So if I say anything that contradicts existing lore, I’d be happy if you could let me know.
Additional note:
If Val really did modify someone like that, I think he may have felt an almost sexual excitement while completely ruining a human being.
I personally think he has a sexually sadistic side…
I’d love to talk about that someday too笑
Hello! I was wondering if your fanart could be used for video edits and such? The art credit would be included in the video! (I love how you draw Valteil, and it's so hard to find anyone else drawing him despite also doing so myself :,})
Hello! I don’t mind at all—if my art is okay for you to use. Thank you for asking~

Since calling Chanbara in Termina, I sometimes find myself thinking about the idea of Abella summoning Valteil.
Abella is a mechanic, and my beloved Val was creating autonomous machines long before humanity ever began using machinery. Isn’t it fun to imagine that Abella might somehow learn about Val’s creations and try to summon Valteil in order to gain that knowledge?
By the way, Ronn was summoned with a dead crow, but what do you think Val would come for? One of the books he wrote? Or else… he does seem like the kind of person who might be interested in the latest sex toys, doesn’t he?
Changing the topic a bit, I want to write down some thoughts I have about Chanbara.
I remember seeing somewhere (maybe on a wiki) that the name “Chanbara” comes from the Japanese word chanbara, which refers to the sound or act of sword fighting.
Also, in Chinese, “dragon” is pronounced like “ron,” right?
So I kind of imagine that his real name might be something like “Ronald ⚫︎⚫︎…,” and that he got a bit into Asian culture.
He realized that his nickname sounded similar to the Chinese word for dragon, liked it, and then combined it with some other “Eastern-sounding” word… maybe that happened to be chanbara… and used that as his pen name.
I think that would be kind of cute.
Of course, Japanese and Chinese are completely different, but for us, countries on the other side of the world can feel a bit hard to tell apart sometimes, right?
And especially in the time he lived in, there would have been even less information available.
So even if he mixed those cultures a little in his understanding, it feels kind of simple and charming to me.
…Well, that’s just something I imagined.

Hi, I really like your drawings of Valteil! I was wondering, do you have any theories about Valteil's backstory or childhood? Thank you!
Thank you for looking at my drawings!
Hmm… I do have many ideas, but It’s very long and probably not that interesting, so you don’t have to read it!笑
I think Valteil is a man with strong complexes.
His self-esteem is not low, but because of his twisted personality and weak body, he probably never received the recognition he thought he deserved.
I see the New Gods’ forms as “an exaggerated version of how they want to be seen,” and the moonscorched forms as “an exaggerated version of what they don’t want others to see.”
When sitting on the golden throne, I think the more a person is obsessed with how they are seen by others, the more their form becomes distorted.
For example, Nilvan has less distortion because her self-image and how others see her are more balanced.
But Valteil wants to show his intelligence and be recognized, and he feels that “people underestimate me,” so his distortion becomes the largest among them.
I think this also explains why François keeps his original shape but turns golden, to make his proud self look even greater.
He wants to show himself too, but unlike Val, he has confidence in all parts of himself, so everything is enhanced.
As for Chanbara, he is a poet and looks deeply into his own mind, so I think his motivation is more inward and different from the other two who care about others’ eyes.
About why they wanted to become gods:
If François became a true god, he would probably aim even higher and try to rule over the old gods.
But I don’t think Valteil would do that.
I think he simply did not want to remain a “lower being” like a human.
He believed that someone with such great intelligence like himself should not die inside a weak human body.
He probably thought his mind had great value, but his body was holding him back and stopping others from recognizing him.
Instead of getting a stronger body, he chose to abandon it and become only a head.
I think this shows his strong belief.
If he got a strong body, it would mean admitting that people with strong bodies are superior, right?
He needed to prove that he is the best only with his intelligence.
Also, well… this is just my personal thought, but I vaguely imagine he might be from a Middle Eastern background.
Not exactly from the Eastern Sanctuaries, but maybe because of his hat and overall design…
In real life, maybe somewhere like Egypt………If not, a bit different, like Turkey?
Also, his name feels very unique and cute, doesn’t it? Do you know what kind of country it sounds like it comes from? I’m Japanese, so I’m not very good at that kind of thing.
I also have a lot of thoughts about his complexes toward both men and women, and his attitude toward creative works, and what he was like when he fell into the Void… but it never ends, so I’ll stop here.
Sorry, I probably surprised you by talking so much 😂
I’m always looking for a chance to talk about Valteil, so be careful!
