He’s very intense. So. Frequently. But he doesn’t really handle things in a healthy manner, so it ends up being less of him “stopping and taking a break” and more... “freaking out and getting high”. 

His go-to stress relievers are: Getting intoxicated and going hunting. Hunting is a hold-over from growing up Rakyat. [Not all of his hunts are of actual animals.]

Vaas is actually a pretty good cook. His preferred method of cooking is via an earth oven/umu. Usually wild boar, too.

[When he was younger, he slept in the fetal position a lot. He got into the habit of star-fishing because he’d go to sleep drunk/high a lot and he’d fall asleep wherever he landed in the bed.]

It’s a mix between control issues, underlying insecurities and survival instincts. If you don’t know why it’s quiet, then chances are the reason is bad.
