Whatever he wants, Red Son isn't interested. Macaque is not someone unfamiliar, but it's more in what he's heard than what he's experienced first hand. And in fairness, he's had no interest in learning further. It's very rare his family sought business with him, especially since he bothered with Sun Wukong's plate more often than not. So now that the ball in his court, his peace is interrupted. This is now his problem. Honestly, the simian is wasting his time here--
The way the fire demon stiffens is subtle to most people. The Demon Bull family always had the merit of pride, to hide anything that could ever ail them. Anything else showcases a vulnerability destructive to their reputation. But this stabs deeper than simple name-calling, and their hands clasp into fists.

And just like that the burning ceased, a smile breaking through the nerves as the woman laughed shoving him back slightly.
"Oh like you're anything to sneeze at ya dweeb, besides you know I'm charmingly irresistible."
Everything felt normal again, like the world had shifted back to it's natural position as she held onto his hand, laughing at the petulant arrogance that he displayed so easily.
"I have no idea what you're talking about Red boy, not a single clue."
She fakes innocence, face still flush from confessing, scratching at her cheek as they stood there, hand still clasped within his own, squeezing it gently.
" I beg your pardon? " Red Son responded with an offended grimace, but it was something mock, unserious. He glanced off to the side indignantly, pouting. " You are HONORED to be in my presence, and don't you forget it! "
His eye twitched slightly.
" Irresistible one way to put it at least. " He turned back to her, and pulled her inward by the hand, grinning. " You're lying, Dragon Girl. I DO have the reciepts after all! But! That's neither here nor there. Get over here. "
And he paced briskly across the temple, dragging her along to a part of the room. A fabric sack with a knotted bow.
It took longer than she wanted to admit to realize how wrong she had taken the conversation. They were talking about completely different topics, trying to comfort one another in two utterly distant scenarios and it only hit her when she noted the confusion morphing into realization plastered on the demon Prince's face.
Oh she wanted to disappear, embarrassment creeping up her neck and settling heavy at her shoulders as she began to feel awkwardly unprepared for this.
And just as she's about to pry herself away, working up the courage to fly off into the distance to truly never see him again he speaks.
Confident. Defiant. Fearless. Honest.
"Red Son.."
His words are the biggest blow she had ever experienced. Every declaration feeling like a gut punch as her body began to falter. Hands gripping at his arm, legs now turned to jelly as the warrior found herself suddenly unable to withstand her own weight.
It's... foolish of me, but I love you.
"You do?"
A bell rings within her. Heat growing from the core of her chest as Mei stumbled backwards, clutching at shirt as sweat builds over her brow.
It was burning, aching, it felt like she was about to burst.
"I-I don't..I d.."
The Samadhi Fire, it had to be that right? Her lack of composure, unable to handle her emotions like him.
Red Son watches her reaction, a tight line on his lips as it hits him just how much of a shock this is. How could she be surprised? He tolerated her more than most people, and she herself, wonderful -- he can't stand to say anything else.
" You don't, what? Understand how someone like me could begin to find your insufferability endearing? " he asks, reaching to keep her steady. The flow of the conversation is changing, and there's that familiar lick of amusement in his voice at her reaction. " I'm just as shocked as you are. Although, there WERE times that was tested. "
He tilts his head, grinning slightly.
" You still owe me a car, you know. " A hand moves to rest on hers. He can almost hear her heartbeat. " But the debt doesn't dissuade. "

Oh that didn't sit well with her.
His comment making her expression sour, reaching with her other hand to hold his face in place. Soft eyes instantly sharpened, daring him to say something as untruthful as that again.
"I will always need you. You're.."
This was happening, and it couldn't be stopped. If she hesitates now, who knows when she would find the words to say what she feared so many months ago.
"You're a part of me Red Son." Slowly her hand moved to hold his. Fingers intertwining as a nervous gaze moves from his own to the floor.
"I didn't realize just how much that was true until I stopped seeing you. How much it hurt when I wanted to go to wherever you were and I found myself unable to move.
When..when I would see a cute cat video and I send it to you? You never replied before but, I could still reach you in person..like this, but all this time I wasn't able to contact you.
You really made it hard for me, I..I thought I was imagining things when I felt your presence. Whenever I wanted to be close to you again I come here to meditate.
I thought, maybe if I proved to you that I was paying attention to your lessons, that I valued your teachings you would come back."
But he didn't, and she had admittedly lost hope in ever seeing him again.
"I worry about.." C'mon, c'mon you got this! You can do this!

Red Son had never distrusted her. Mei always had a capability she never quite realized, a power she felt she hadn't curved yet. He'd know the world would be safe, in her hands; bumpy, but safe. That's why he doubts, why he believes he is utterly unneeded. Their training went so well, what need would he be?
He stares back at her, blinking blankly. And suddenly it hits him just what this conversation is really about. The demon doesn't say anything, just listens, quietly, processing everything she's pouring her soul into.
" Mei, I⦠" his words turn into a speechless silence, and hands squeeze hers ever so subtly. He'd never particularly been good with this. Better, but not⦠" I don't pretend to know how hard this has been for you. I'm⦠sorry it turned out this way. The truth is you never needed to do anything. You being you, that was always enough for me. I just⦠felt I wasn't enough for you, for everyone. "
" It's not just about Mom, and Dad; this was about you, and MKβ¦. If I had let anything like that happen to any of you again, I wouldn't forgive myself. I wanted to be stronger for all of you, because Iβ¦ care about you. "
He rubbed the back of his head awkwardly.
" I thought about you everyday, every hour, every minute -- not every second because come on, that's sappy of me. " That was a lie. He was quiet, for a moment. " It's⦠foolish of me, but I love you. "
There's an audible gasp at his embrace, arms hovering slightly around him until her body melts against him. His grip strong, his strength swallowing her as she buried herself against his chest with no reason to fight back. His scent locking into her mind, soothing her worries as she hears him out.
That had been a difficult time for everyone, forced to face many things that they wouldn't have willingly looked inward for if not forced to.
She had to face the bruteness of her nature, how destructive her anger could be, how weak she was to protect those she loved.
Mei couldn't even imagine what he must've felt lost like that.
"We're supposed to be a team..our fires, m-my fire..without you it felt like..like it was snuffed out. I couldn't breathe, I was suffocating."
Moving back slightly her hand cups at his cheek, thumb brushing away an intrusive tear as Mei drew in a shaky breath.
"I'm, glad to see you again. Your hair looks longer.."
He looked just as wonderful as the last time she laid eyes on him.
This embrace was something reassuring, something familiar and something that had been out of reach for so long, he'd almost forgotten how it had felt. There were few people Red Son could feel this vulnerable with, and they were few and far between. But in blunt honesty, he couldn't bring himself to enjoy it. It felt selfish in a way he couldn't describe. That he just come back to this. And yet, he didn't move. She did.
He was so lost in her gaze that he couldn't stop himself blubbering pathetically. When he found himself, the tears stopped, or so he thought.
" You don't need me. Not really, " he replied with laugh, frail. Pondered the thought, how it may exist in Mei's head⦠" But I understand not feeling ready. "
I'm sorry for leaving you when it felt like you weren't.
A hand moved hers, and he looked toward the ground. HE was meant to be comforting her. Red Son wiped his eyes with his sleeve, turning away with his hands clasped behind his back.
" β¦I'm happy to see you too. "

She kept waiting, hoping that one day the light on her screen would turn on with a notification from him. Everything happened so abruptly, nothing said before she found herself at a loss for his presence.
It was silly maybe, to hold onto someone she didn't have.
They had never confirmed anything, truthfully Mei had no idea if they were going to end up having that conversation. He seemed more than willing, but her? She hesitated.
She never sought out that kind of companionship before, too content and comfortable with her freedom to be able to give it up so easily.
But when he disappeared, she realized what a fool she'd been.
"..Was it because of me?"
Had she been the reason for his absence? Was she going to be who's to blame if he left again?
Time froze. The heir's eyes locked back on her, wide and focused for a few seconds. Deducing, pinpointing just how reckless his actions had been -- how it looked to everyone else. And in an instant, Red Son's arms wrapped tightly around her in an iron grip. Chin sat on her shoulder, and the grip felt like it wouldn't let go, not now, not ever.
He will NOT have her in pieces because of him.
" It was because of me, Mei, " he responded in a hushed whisper, and she couldn't see it, but his eyes were welling like a dam. " After the scroll, I⦠"
He's hesitant. He'd been radio silent everywhere.
" I feared for the people I loved. I let them slip away several times, and I didn't want them to slip again. Do not begin to believe my absence was your fault. Everything was mine. "
" I keep hearing mortals yapping about something called Twibite -- I am losing the patience to correct them on the biology of jiΔngshΔ«. "

Arms wrapped around his neck, tears cascading down long eyelashes as she matched her mouth against his own. Longing, sadness. She missed him so damn much. Hands reuniting with his hair, the scorching heat of their fires meeting again after far too long. Pulling back she allowed her feet to hit the floor, teary eyes and a shaky smile looking up at the moron as Mei lightly punches his chest. "You jerk..you..y.." - Mei
He'd just about finished settling down his belongings, the clutter of the training temple. Red Son now dealt with the mortal idea of communicating his absence, and not even beginning to know how. He always hated the risk. The risk of admitting the reason he had left, bane of his parents' imprisonment, his own -- he needed to work on himself. No one needs that pointless baggage. No one needed to know. Not like certain people wouldn't connect the dotsβ¦
He sensed footsteps, turning around to see Mei standing there. Ah. So he'd be having this discussion sooner than he thought.
" Dragon Girl -- " he didn't get chance to finish, face flushing in shock. Apparently it had been longer than he thought⦠He flinches slightly at the punch, blinking down at her before looking away avoidantly. " I'm⦠sorry I took this long. "
