I'm getting really tired of hearing some variation of "that's the law" in any discussion of morality. I simply don't care that the law says you can lose decades of your life from stealing, I think that's bullshit. I don't care that the law says someone didn't go through they right channels to enter this country, they needed a better life. I don't care if the law says a teacher can't use a trans students real name, I think deadnamimg them is worse.

I literally could not care less what the law says when I'm making a moral judgement on somebody. I'm going to look and ask what actually helps or hurts people.

You know the kinda shit that used to be legal? Or illegal? It's pretty fucked up and I guarantee a lot of people who "support" it now would oppose or support it back then because "it's the law".
