i like when people treat the first drafts of wicked the musical like the snyder cut and not just a bad first draft

what kills me is that even when elphaba's fleeing oz she's still putting other people before herself. because we know from TWAI that her dream is to make good and be seen as good. DG is about her embracing her power and standing (or flying) up for herself. NPLH was literally added into the movie to show how much elphie loves oz and wants to stay. in the end she has to accept she'll only be seen as the wicked witch, has to flee oz. she's literally left grounded. and she gives up all of that because she needs to be wicked so glinda can be good and glinda can carry on her cause. she denies glinda's request to try and clear her name because she can't let glinda get hurt too. she literally gives up everything for other people and in the end most of oz still sees her as a villain

elphaba turning to religious imagery of st glinda but turning away from the actual glinda is so. like she's so terrified of losing the real glinda or being rejected by her (re: caprice in the pines). she's scared of glinda ending up like melena (dissatisfied depressed socialite) or fiyero (dead by association), but she's also scared of facing the glinda she left behind for fear that she's lost her to high society (a fear that's seemingly confirmed in their colwen grounds reunion). she turns her back on glinda and goes to st glinda for comfort so she won't have to feel rejected by her again

i don't really feel bad for glinda in a omg it's so sad her bf and her best friend ran off together and left her behind kind of way like she had it coming it was good for her to get kicked around a little bit. it's more like i feel bad for her in a i'm sorry they undoomed the doomed het couple and straightwashed you kind of way because shit like that is why the geneva convention was adopted
