elphaba turning to religious imagery of st glinda but turning away from the actual glinda is so. like she's so terrified of losing the real glinda or being rejected by her (re: caprice in the pines). she's scared of glinda ending up like melena (dissatisfied depressed socialite) or fiyero (dead by association), but she's also scared of facing the glinda she left behind for fear that she's lost her to high society (a fear that's seemingly confirmed in their colwen grounds reunion). she turns her back on glinda and goes to st glinda for comfort so she won't have to feel rejected by her again
ethan slater really put his whole boqussy into march of the witch hunters
and when I tell you I thought his performance as a supporting actor was stronger than jonny's-
i don't really feel bad for glinda in a omg it's so sad her bf and her best friend ran off together and left her behind kind of way like she had it coming it was good for her to get kicked around a little bit. it's more like i feel bad for her in a i'm sorry they undoomed the doomed het couple and straightwashed you kind of way because shit like that is why the geneva convention was adopted
I fucking love gelphie writers part 3

They shoulda kissed.
another one for the fiyero isn't real and just glinda's shitty oc. people say musical fiyero is a mix of book fiyero and avaric but there's genuinely so little book fiyero in him and a shit ton of book glinda. which ig makes sense when book fiyero doesn't really have that much of a role in the shiz section and doesn't really connect with elphaba until the city of emeralds section. so to remedy this (and the fact they took away him being indigenous, which is kind of central to his character) they just stole a bunch from glinda
like the whole "i pretend to be shallow and dumb but i secretly care and am capable of critical thought." all book glinda. the banter between him and elphaba in the forest is much more similar to the "you are thinking!" moment between book gelphie than any book fiyero moment. book glinda has that whole "i've been taught my whole life to flirt my way through conversations and this is the first time someone's genuinely cared enough to expect critical thought from me"
and while book glinda very much is a social climber and i wouldn't call her a nihilist, she's ambitious in a different way than musical glinda. she wants to better herself socially, but because of her gender she's not really expected to engage in anything serious. so her personal philosophy is actually much more similar to what fiyero outlines in dancing through life--i hate trying, do/say whatever's easiest, conversations are about flow
fiyero also being profoundly affected by dr. dillamond's arrest is literally just him taking glinda's nachos from the book, as dr. dillamond's death is a moment for her character growth. fiyero isn't even at shiz atp. in the book, dr dilly's murder and ama clutch's subsequent psychotic break makes glinda realize how dangerous the world is and how vulnerable she is, and the galinda -> glinda name change is a genuine trauma response. this also marks her transformation from some vain social climber into someone looking to do something significant with her life, which is why she soon after takes up sorcery
we talk about movie alaym being stolen popular nachos, and fiyerocrow getting glinda's big brown boba eyes, but wicked the musical has genuinely been stealing glinda's nachos and giving them to this white boy from day one. on one hand, lesbians really can't have shit. on the other hand, total glinda cultural victory fiyeraba actually canonizes gelphie
galinda was fully laying in elphaba's bed being like where is evil located π₯Ίπ𫦠i wouldn't know an evil thing if it fell on me ππ€π₯° and elphaba was oblivious to all of this

men will really see a beautiful intimate moment between two queer women and then want to insert themselves into things
really fascinating that nessarose got so much shit for not standing up for elphaba at the ozdust, to the point where marissa bode had to log on and ask people to knock it off with the ableism. glinda did stand up for elphaba at the ozdust, but you still have people arguing that she only did it for selfish reasons and therefore it doesn't count. meanwhile i don't think i've seen anyone give fiyero any shit for not standing up for elphaba at the ozdust he just gets a free pass for some reason
it's annoyed me for a while because nessa's obviously in the wrong for not standing up for her sister, but it's clear that she knows deep down she should support her sister. "i can't watch" is cruel, but she also clearly feels guilt about watching elphaba being publicly humiliated and doing nothing. it also makes sense why someone like nessa--who already feels socially isolated because of her disability and doesn't want people to treat her differently or like a pity case--would be extra hesitant to step forward. she isn't shown to have the social capital that glinda or fiyero have. none of this justifies her inaction, but it's all nuances that explain her behavior and make it understandable that i think get lost in how a lot of people discuss her
in comparison, fiyero's reaction is just objectively crueler imo??? "i'll say this much--she doesn't give a twig what anyone else thinks" is such a horrible thing to say in the face of someone getting humiliated by a crowd of people. it comes off more like he's trying to make a little quip to galinda. and in response to one of galinda's rare moments of basic human empathy ("i feel awful") he says "why it's not your fault?" which, again, is just a wildly cold and callous thing to say in the face of a public humiliation ritual. it's not about galinda's feelings in that moment. like the concept of stepping up and actually doing something hasn't occurred to this man, despite the fact that he's a popular prince and probably has the least to lose by actually standing up for elphaba
and i'm not saying this to like cancel fiyero or whatever even though he is a terrorist. it makes sense for galinda to be the one to step up for elphaba because she is the one who most understands elphaba and is capable of connecting with her. and you can literally see fiyero's facial expression change during gelphie's dance, with their connection unlocking something in him, which is probably the most onscreen development this man gets. it's the double standard that frustrates me--nessa gets constant shit for her inaction, while fiyero gets a pass

glinda is g*y (yuck) but elphaba is the one who said i love you to glinda despite there being some production rule that they weren't allowed to say love in oz. elphaba was breaking the rules of the movie she was in because it was so important that she said i love you to glinda. something deeply truly insane about the love between two women being so powerful it transcends the confines of narrative
the thing about elphaba a lot of people miss--especially with how the musical/movie adaptations sort of put her through the corporate girlboss #empowerment filter--is that she actually is a failure. she sucks. she doesn't accomplish any of her goals. things get so bad she has to pass things off to fucking glinda. and elphaba being such a loser actually is very empowering. i love when women are losers
