rereading wicked and it is striking how little glinda actually shows up in the narrative, but how present she is. like, in elphaba's time in the emerald city, she has a vague cameo where she doesn't even meet elphaba…but that chapter begins and ends with elphaba visiting the chapel of st glinda. which could mean nothing

For all that you can make fun of Elphaba for being kinda spineless when it comes to Glinda, maybe there's something beautiful in the fact that she really does love her unconditionally. Despite all her faults and all her mistakes, she still sees her for who she can be, she still believes in her and she still loves her. And considering how Glinda's spent her whole life surrounded by people who only love her for the facade she puts on for them, who think they adore her when they barely know her, that's got to mean the world.

this post made realize that on one end of the spectrum, glinda has people who only know her and love her for the facade. their love is superficial and basically meaningless cuz they don't know her and are incapable of viewing her as more than this bright shiny thing. on the other end, you have morrible, who (like elphaba) cuts through glinda's bs immediately and sees the girl underneath. but aside from the facade glinda can put on, she just sees glinda as fundamentally untalented and undeserving and selfish. so it means the world to someone like glinda that elphaba can both see under the facade she puts on and believe in glinda
