1) From my perspective (it doesn’t erase everyone else perspective):

My personal interpretation of Jax’s character:

For me, Jax's appeal was never limited to questions of gender identity.

I am not debating whether you can list scenes or try to prove me wrong with him. I’ve seen him, I understand him, I just do not interpret Jax in the same way

Why I interpret Jax this way:

I related to him bc I’m constantly trying to avoid problems with joking around or tease people and I hate opening to people about those things (one time I tell the wrong person abt something personal…)

I related to him for my doubts abt what is acceptable for my gender to do, why can’t I do the same thing as the opposite gender while staying like I am (I had a lots of struggle younger, with gender equality bc people keeps bothering mef or « not acting like people having my gender should »)

I related to him bc I always needs to hide my problems behind a smile, and I hate control and feeling like I need to justify my actions

I related to him bc of his toxic mother (my father have that kind of harmful gender expectations imposed toward to my brother…)

I related to him bc I forced myself to think that nothing mattered as it will pass, sometimes leading anxiety attack when reality slap my face, I’m also bad socially and have a lots of difficulties to fully trust someone…

My whole world building around him got kind of broken bc of all the psychology i spend hours analysing… So when people reduce every aspect of his character only to gender identity, it can feel really weird for me personally, bc the meaning I found in him was broader and tied to many different experiences...

(Yeah I genuinely cried when thinking and writing it, bc everything that happened in my life IRL this 2 past years sucked, so I focused on tadc, especially Jax and Caine characters and that help me go through this)

And I need to add this:

Again, I feel connect more with the interpretations of Jax centered on emotional repression, toxic environnement, and identity struggles, rather than gender identity specifically, but I respect that other people connect to him differently (that normal) —> I’m not talking against anyone’s identity

That just how I see Jax. I just wanted people to first understand why others see Jax another gender than trans, and prove to people that it not always about rejecting trans people at all.

You should never jump to conclusions before understanding someone’s points of view

2) Interpretation = not the same as denying canon

To be clear upfront with the canon thing, I'm not arguing against that statement.

I fully understand that the creator, the VA and maybe Glitch and other people have described Jax as trans

I'm talking about personal connection to the version of the character others spent 3 years interpreting before that information was revealed.

I watched fully tadc, became fan at the pilot, and checking regularly as I finally adored it at ep4… I am not confused about the meaning of his character, I am not missing context or anything , and I am not denying Jax as a trans

That is what interpretation means: It is not a quiz with a single correct answer, and it is not smth that becomes objectively bad just bc someone can quote a scene or point at symbolism

I want to be honest here: what I’m saying also applies to Zooble’s, Ribbit’s headcanons, and others too of course

It’s totally okay that the fandom see Jax as transfem. But fans should be allowed to headcanon Jax as transmasc, non-binary, or anything else without feeling scared and guilty

I think fandom interpretation is totally needed in a fandom to engage with a series, especially in a show where a lot of character depth is intentionally left open or not fully explained.

Some Interpretation simply differs from the main one

Some fans and I didn’t see Jax’s writing through a gender identity lens. We didn’t interpret scenes like the maid outfit, visual jokes, metaphors, or his reactions as direct confirmation of gender identity themes. We simply saw those moments as part of his established personality: Refusal of control, his anger when forced into situations, his tendency to mock or resist against everything, his toxic masculinity, the way he avoid thing, push people away and his general behavior across episodes.

That is what some person unconsciously focused on seeing Jax in another way, this past 3years and still see him like that

This does not erase anyone else’s interpretation. That doesn’t make things like override canon and invalidate trans readings of the character. It is simply a different analytical focus on the same material.

Interpretation existed long before that information became public, and built around the aspects of Jax that fans personally related to. Their emotional connection to the character won’t suddenly disappear, even if new info changes how other people view Jax.

You can imagine how hearing a new canon direction can be emotionally difficult for people

The VA interpret him as trans, likely based on information from the creator or production team that not all fans had access to at the right time. Some fans also saw him this way from the beginning or were already expecting it.

3) Harassment problem

What is becoming a problem this fandom from what I see is that disagreement is treated as moral wrongdoing by almost everyone and the lack of open-minded people

I’ve seen some fans saying that if you see Jax as another gender than transfem, you are necessarily :

Transphobic (including some who are trans themselves)

Erasing representation

Encouraged to quit and stop enjoying this show

Blind, stupid and wrong for not agreeing

I forgot the rest of the things that people have said, and I can’t really talk the other stuff I remember seeing here…

This kind of reaction isn’t always fair or accurate, and it ignores the fact that disagreement does not automatically come from bad intent

4) Different headcanons are NOT harmful

Disagreeing about the interpretation of a fictional character is not, by itself, proof of bad intent and should be discussed on their own terms rather than automatically being treated as attacks on others.

Headcannoning is not discrimination, harassment, denial of identity, or treating real trans people as less valid or less human. And it shouldn’t be automatically treated as attacks on real people.

A fictional character being interpreted in multiple ways doesn’t remove anything. It doesn’t invalidate anyone’s identity

It just means the character is being read differently by different people which is considered as normal in literally every fandom

You can connect with Jax as trans and build meaning from that interpretation of the character. You can write, draw, and celebrate that aspect of Jax however you want.

And people can still connect with other aspects of the same character without being considered as harmful for doing so.

People may have different headcanons and interpretations of Jax's gender. I don't think those interpretations should be used as justification to harass other fans.

I think one reason Jax resonates with so many different people is because the show leaves parts of his identity and inner struggles open to interpretation by being subtle. Different fans feels connected to different aspects of his character, and I believe that openness is part of why so many people across the LGBTQ+ community and beyond see themselves in that purple rabbit in different ways.

The bad thing is not headcannoning Jax

What’s harmful is using Gooseworx’s and Glitch’s work to justify bullying and/or threatening others for different interpretations of Jax, or to disrespect other people, including LGBTQ+ members of the community.

Canon intent exists

Interpretation exists

Both can coexist without moral judgement

5) Why all fandoms should allow multiple perspectives

All things can exist at the same time without turning fandom into a policing space.

Like harassment over headcanons are not acceptable. Nobody should be bullied, threatened, called hateful[…] for how they personally interpret a fictional character. ➡️ That behavior does not protect trans : it only damages makes people feel unsafe, and pushes them away from engaging in the fandom and/or liking Jax as trans at all

A fandom should be where different interpretations can exist side by side without being turned into moral arguments.

What I’m actually doing:

not debating canon not engaging in harassment not encouraging moral accusations respect all viewpoints I will continue to interpret Jax in a different way in my own reading

And I expect basic and normal respect in return as I didn’t show disrespect towards you

Final thoughts:

I fully support LGBTQ+ people, including trans people, non-binary people, and everyone else. That support do not depend on agreeing about fictional interpretations.

And I HATE to see people using Jax’s gender as a weapon to harass others for having a different view of him

My concern here is not people projecting their own experience and gander on Jax : This is the harassment and accusation and pressure[…] being directed at others for doing so. That behavior is what actually make people feel unsafe, including for LGBTQ+ fans (a special through for people seeing Jas as transmasc , or/and genderfluid here bc I saw them regularly criticized everywhere personally) who maybe want to just enjoy tadc without being pulled in troubles

We should be able to exist in the same fandom without policing each other’s pov, and without turning differences into smth personal or moral.

I’m speaking to everyone here, whether you interpret Jax as transfem or not, you have the right to headcanon Jax as you want, bc of your personal experience, your gender and/or for any other reasons (as long as it’s not harmful to others) without feeling unsecured, guilty or even worse feeling bad being yourself 🫶

Jax’s character cannot be reduced to a single interpretation.

What some fans mostly connected with instead was his complicated behavior and emotional struggles.

So do just like whatever you feel like it

Jax remains a fictional character, and canon or not, fandom interpretations and headcanons are still valid—just as they are for Caine, Gangle, Pomni, Zooble, Ribbit, Ragatha, Kinger […]

This is the first and only time I’ll put it this way… I’m still in this show bc there are still some wonderful people in it.. I’ve personally run into harassment and hostility abt it, which is why I’m cautious about posting this
