About Saints Until Fridays
Saints Until Fridays wasn't meant to be an album. I went into the studio to write the first track, "Valley Tantrums," with my producer, and then found myself yearning to be back in the studio again working on an entire project. It went from being one song, to being two songs, to being three songs, to then I wanted it to be four songs, until finally I was like, let's just do an entire EP.
I think Saints Until Fridays is sort of an exploration of the value of time and each of our present moments.
I forget.
I forget constantly how amazing this life of mine is. I'm where I wanted to be senior year of high school. But time goes about its usual business of dragging you to each place marker slowly until each "big deal" makes a tiny ripple, despite the seismic way it would've rocked my world back in high school. But I have found roots in the present moment. My producer, Mike, and I work together to realize our accomplishments, rather than letting them pass us. Rather than letting them be fleeting victories, we strive to let them impact us lastingly. And I think together, this album has brought us further into the only moment of our lives there is: this one.

We bang our head on walls all night Like handprints in cement We feel so stuck in our lives So we wish away our time We are just barely surviving And we feel like products of bad timing The boys don’t grow up they get muscles The girls don’t grow up they act young still And everybody here’s gone insane We work hard to set ourselves straight Everybody’s stuck in their own way Tryna outgrow their kid brains We all try to control everything We swear we’re doomed and then we just sink Even cars can’t drive us down these streets Cause we’re livin’ something larger than we think But we don’t think that much We don’t think for us We tidy up too much We aren’t allowed to be messy when we’re younger We don’t think enough about the simple stuff We’re too aware all of our fears have us outnumbered We all miss where we come from Small towns with four walls Cause when things start to change too much We miss our younger blood (Youth is bliss youth is blinding) Younger blood Younger blood (Our younger blood felt so undying) Younger Blood The boys don’t grow up they get muscles The girls don’t grow up they act young still And everybody here’s gone insane We work hard to set ourselves straight Everybody’s stuck in their own way Tryna outgrow their kid brains We all try to control everything We swear we’re doomed and then we just sink Even cars can’t drive us down these streets Cause we’re livin’ something larger than we think But we don’t think that much We don’t think for us We tidy up too much We aren’t allowed to be messy when we’re younger We don’t think enough about the simple stuff We’re too aware all of our fears have us outnumbered I miss feeling good enough when I had my younger blood I miss nights I didn’t doubt myself I’m too underwhelmed to raise hell I just miss my younger blood, younger blood, younger blood Younger blood, younger blood, younger blood Feeling good enough, good enough, good enough We all miss our younger blood We all try to control everything We swear we’re doomed and then we just sink Even cars can’t drive us down these streets Cause we’re livin’ something larger than we think But we don’t think that much We don’t think for us We tidy up too much We aren’t allowed to be messy when we’re younger We don’t think enough about the simple stuff We’re too aware all of our fears have us outnumbered

There are corks in the pool Teeth stark against purple lips We're drunk swimmin' Been growin' up outta the neighborhood with the same cast of girls and their boyfriends I could stand to have somebody reach for my hand helpin' pull me through a sweatshirt that's too small for my head We're soberin' up but we've still got a ways to go until we're ready to separate This poolside is lit with all these text messages My phone is dead on the cement I sink under the surface I'm pretty good right here with pink jet clouds above my head And my friends are all diving in And the rest of us are talking shit Our shins are aqua blue We left our hearts on our chairs Cause sometimes we just wanna forget 'bout the future and have chlorine in our hair We're up on the ledge Tan legs looking golden in the sunset I'm a good host I love these girls the most But I miss it Being selfish A half-hearted buzz is enough to make me want boys I hate Droppin' back in with the bottle feeling flatter than the basketball floating I laugh but I'm not joking We're soberin' up but we've still got a ways to go until we're ready to separate This poolside is lit with all these text messages My phone is dead on the cement I sink under the surface I'm pretty good right here with pink jet clouds above my head And my friends are all diving in And the rest of us are talking shit Our shins are aqua blue We left our hearts on our chairs Cause sometimes we just wanna forget 'bout the future and have chlorine in our hair I know when I feel like this Like I'll never get kissed Or I'll kiss death first before I ever make it My best friend is right there My friends will always be here Floatin' on their backs Swimmin' in laps Showin' up fast Never turnin' me away when I've turned to glass The past is in the past But right now we're alive in this chlorine I'm pretty good right here with pink jet clouds above my head And my friends are all diving in And the rest of us are talking shit Our shins are aqua blue We left our hearts on our chairs Cause sometimes we just wanna forget 'bout the future and have chlorine And my friends are all diving in And the rest of us are talking shit Our shins are aqua blue We left our hearts on our chairs Cause sometimes we just wanna forget 'bout the future and have chlorine in our hair
