YOUR STORY

As a faering, you should want to keep to yourself. Your home is a safe haven where your dragon kin people reside; a place of true neutrality. There are no allies to the Midlands, nor are there enemies. Your people simply are, and this will not change.

But you were never one much for rules, were you? With whispers of a certain prince in the Northlands allegedly receiving death threats from your docile leader, Cirrus, you could only slip away into the depths of the North to go see for yourself. It's so hilariously outrageous that your peace-loving ruler has such rumours teeming about them.

You did not expect to find a bounty hunter with bleeding out from her abdomen. And most of all, you did not expect her to know you by name, even through her raggedy breaths. And most of all, you did not expect her to have leads on the one you seek: the Northern Prince.

Multiple Pronoun Errors in Chapter 1 were fixed

The text box investigation section of Chapter 4 at the victim’s house is now not case sensitive. This means you can type in “Bed Frame”, “Bed frame”, or “bed frame” and they will all be right. However, “bed Frame” and “bEd FrAmE” still won’t work, and I will never make them work, you little chaos gremlins.

So, as you can see, I’ve been a little busy since school ended. 17k honestly doesn’t feel like all that much in comparison to some of the other chapters, but then I have to remind myself, those chapters had literally four different scenes that were all completely different that needed to feel similar in length to one another. So, I’ll give myself a bit of a break.

Dani's boyfriend, Gus Maes, who's been grieving alongside you, offers you a way out. An invitation to spend the summer at his family's farm turned 'holistic wellness center', The Heap. Apparently, there you will find peace.

Spend a summer with the Maes family and their guests in the middle of nowhere, learn all about the spiritual hospitality they have on offer, and try to heal. Just a warning, however— the well-off come to The Heap to rid themselves of their woes, and although you'll be staying in the main house away from the cabins, you never know what might latch itself onto you. Perhaps it isn't all so idyllic after all.

But who knows? Maybe grief is just driving you crazy. Maybe The Heap can offer more than just healing: perhaps a rebirth, marriage into a new life untainted by the loss you've faced. Dani always called him Gus— it caught like fire in the dry. He's always been an oddball, but he's kind and knows to make light of any dark situation. He's a lover above all things, and has extended his comforts to you in your mourning. Maybe Dani would understand if you started feeling for Gus. Maybe a blooming romance with him is only an attempt to tether yourself to her, even after death, to keep her alive in a new form.

6'1, pale skin and a contagious smile. Brown hair just long enough to tie out of his face. Nails are always painted a different colour, and he has two earrings in each ear. Muscular build, and a casual approach to his style, though he likes to dress up for special occasions.

Elisey Maes - M/F, 22

They don't want you at The Heap, but they wont say it— they won't say anything. They're silent, and harsh, and often they hurt feelings with only a look. A recluse or something darker, you don't know: but the way their dark eyes bore into yours, its something else. You have to try hard to get close to Elisey, and it may not be worth it in the end. Are they even capable of feeling? This dog bites.

6'4, pale skin and darker brown eyes that glare knives. Black hair (short and messy for M!Elisey, back length for F!Elisey) with sharp features and a definite resting bitch face. Tall thin build, doesn't attempt anything special when it comes to fashion or makeup. Tattoo sleeve on their left arm.

Isolde Maes - F, 22

Elisey's fraternal twin sister, bound by blood but a contrast in every way possible. Isolde is gentle, but unafraid to speak out about her wants and needs. She's a flirt, an artist, she is a vessel for something spiritual that lies settled in her soul: you can feel it. In Isolde's eyes, you're at home at The Heap, and she will meet no end as a host to make sure you're comfortable. Even though Gus calls her a drama queen, maybe in her you can find your peace.

5'6, pale skin and dyed-pink hair that is often up in a ponytail. Soft hazel eyes, and a simple go-to makeup look. Isolde is plus sized, and has style for days- she's most often wearing sundresses and as much jewellery as she can.

Rocky is a guest at The Heap, but a long time friend of the Mae's twins. They're cynical, questioning life from all angles and often times digging too deep into holes that should stay covered. Want to go on a forbidden adventure or two? Rocky is your person to trust-- they're in the same boat as you, really: though a personal invitation to heal wasn't their calling. Rocky chose The Heap as an alternative to rehab, and the road to health isn't always pretty.

5'9, mousy brown curls that fall over their eyes and warm, golden brown skin. Bright green eyes and a playful look stained onto their face. A lean build, usually dressed up in all sorts of layers.

Kearney - M/F, 24

Kearney works at The Heap. They live in the staff house just a short walk from where you stay with the Maes, and wont protest if you find yourself needing a night away. They like to talk, they like to prod at the open wound in your heart and try to mend it, but Kearney never overwhelms: you can see why they work at The Heap. They have a heart for helping people, and their passion extends dutifully to you. The soothing love you've needed.

5'11, a striking appearance with dark eyes and sharp bone structure. Black hair that is tightly curled (longer, back length for f!Kearney, cropped short for M!Kearney) black skin and a subtle scar running from their bottom lip along their jaw. Fit frame, a receipt of their love for active endeavours.

Finally, I look up at the looming prison ahead of me. High, black-stoned walls are covered in ice and snow while two high spires jut into the clouds on the farthest corners. It’s huge, and seems to go on forever- but that thought only makes me tremble in fear. An endless place of pain and torture, and we are walking right towards it…

The gates slowly open, metal screeching and clunking as the frozen chains work to pull the heavy iron. There are 6 guards lined up outside the gates, their hands on their weapons as if any of us would try and step out of line. 

We all shamble into the outer courtyard; the centerpiece, of which, is a dark gray statue of the twin Goddess and God, Ruka and Rune. They stare down at us with matching expressions of hardened acceptance… an acceptance that we defiled their world with use of magic, that which only they can use.

Your best friend, and also your former partner from times when you were just a patrol officer. With a heart of gold and an approachable attitude, L always chooses you over the others. Appearance: forest green eyes, copper hair, beige freckled skin.

Your other colleague, a highly-skilled lab technician. M is rather reserved when it comes to emotions, and after almost a year of working together, M is still a walking mystery for you. Appearance: dark brown eyes, ash blonde hair, light skin.

The commanding agent of the Criminal Investigative Division (CID) team sent to catch the killer. Overbearing and ruthless, R has their own way of getting things done. Appearance: gray eyes, blonde hair, pale skin.

Another member of the CID team. With a cocky smile, T is full of flirts and sneering comments, regardless of the occasion. T has no doubts about what they want and isn't afraid to vocalize it. Appearance: dark green eyes, black curly hair, rich brown skin.

I looks the most mature and approachable of CID's fellow agents. Looks can be deceiving, though. Working behind the scene and watching from afar, I carries all the scars within. Appearance: hazel eyes, dark brown hair, olive skin.

Someone new and temporary, S has a velvety voice and a perfect smile that doesn't reach their eyes. You're not sure if your paths will cross in the future, but something tells you S can't be trusted. Appearance: black eyes, long black wavy hair, bronze skin.

Your twin-sister: Your sweet, kind, caring, and gentle twin sister. She always tries to be there for you, and show how much she appreciates you, no matter what. Chief of Police, Kendrick Nash: Your boss, who is not handling his job so well after the recent death of his husband, Klemens Bergmann. Detective Klemens Bergmann: Police chief's husband, who happened to be a senior detective and your mentor. He was the first victim, murdered under mysterious circumstances.

Skills: Depending on your previous job, you'll have a unique set of skills to help the community. Choose to learn new skills, like woodworking, bronc riding, or sheep shearing, to mention a few.

Animal husbandry: The distances around Whitecreek Valley are hefty, so it's necessary to have at least a horse to get around. Choose your favorite out of a cast of individual equines, each with their own personalities. Also, help a calf into this world and realize how fun it is to raise a baby cow! As long as you're in good standing with the rest of the herd, of course.

Rebuilding: Try your best to rebuild the Brass Pine ranch, and the town adjacent. The better job you manage, the more opportunities (and challenges) come your way.

Community outreach: A dying town is still home, and there are stories to be heard, problems to solve. Lend a helping hand to your new community and see how one kindness can pay itself back.

Romance: Not everyone in town is adverse to strangers, and if your heart yearns romance, there is a chance for a spark along the way. Just be careful as to who you're trying to woo in front of whom. Small town gossips, we've all seen it.

Mystery: There's something hanging over the valley, like a rot in the air. Why are people moving out? Why are exports not moving out? And who's behind the animals getting sick? Don you detective hat and lend a hand to the entire four local police officers working the bizarre case.

So the story goes, that for the first twelve days of every year, ten souls leave for the coast and nine at most return.

On the twelfth day, the possessed must die, otherwise a certain insatiable spirit will return to Hale in their body.

But that's just an old tale for kids to tell around a fireplace.

Carrington Wiley, 21 M

Returning from an ivy league college out of state, Carrington Wiley holds Hales secrets close. Last year's twelve day trip left him undeterred, and now he's spearheading your groups trip back to the haunting shores. With a stoic exterior and a keen judgment, Carrington is anything but an open book, and wont hesitate to point fingers. He should be keeping his reputation clean, given the weight of his family name lies on his shoulders, but there's something too alluring about a taste of possession.

Carrington is 6'4, black, and has a muscular build that showcases his physical affinities. His hair is cropped short, eyes dark and features sharp. There's something deeper to his gaze, and a frown is almost always pulling at his lips. He has a tattoo of his ex girlfriend, Matilda's, last name on his ribs.

Everest Hale, 20 M/F

The black sheep of the Hale family, Everest thrives on risk. Though they don't wear the towns name with honour: after an incident with the police, Everest's been staying on Lex's couch until the heat falls away. They're itching to return to the coast- some call it thrill seeking, others call it bloodlust. Though Ev is a flirt and tease, their cocky demeanour masks a struggling soul underneath. There's a grey area in which Everest's morals lie, mirrored in their willingness to bring their little sister along for the ride.

Ev is 6'2, pale and covered in tattoos. Though they are pretty lean, their baggy style covers a lot of their frame. With black hair and dull green eyes that always look a bit tired, Everest is disheveled at best. Alexander 'Lex' Nieland, 20 M

Working for your father, and on the path to make a name for himself in a town where only the wealthy thrive, Lex is a kind soul trying to keep his head down. Though surrounding himself with friends like Carrington and Everest doesn't help his case. After experiencing the events of last years twelve days, Lex is adamant he's never going back to the coast. But, Hale is merciless on the people pleasers like Lex, and his friends are damn good at inciting the worst out of him.

Lex is 5'10, white, and has dirty blonde hair that curls loosely. His hair is short, but long enough to fall into his eyes, which are a pale blue. He's not as muscular as Carrington, but not as lean as Everest, Lex settles in a nice average middle ground. There's something kind to their presence, something easy to trust.

Sarika Jain, 22 F

Once best friends with the victim of the previous years twelve days, Louis, Sarika's on this trip to step into his place and figure out what really happened on the coast. She's loyal beyond the word, and will stop at nothing to bring justice to her best friend, even though she's going in blind. Still a party girl at heart, she's not opposed to enjoying herself while she can- and she's more than happy to show you how the girls in Hale do things, even if they arent technically legal.

Sarika is 5'2 and of Indian descent. She has long dark hair and dark eyes that just burn into the hearts of others. She's mid-sized, and dresses to impress- she's not going to let her family status go unmirrored by her wardrobe. Sarika has a small flower tattooed on the inside of her left wrist.

Monday, 19 NB

Undeniably fucking weird, Monday believes they can speak to ghosts, and has begged Carrington and Everest to allow them to join this years cast of potential victims. Eccentric and too spiritually engaged for their own good, Monday is adamant that they can connect with this 'ghost on the coast', and maybe turn a soul hungry killer into a friend. They're strange, sure, but they know how to party fucking hard. Never a dull moment with Monday.

Monday is 5'9, and mixed, black and white. They have shoulder-length brown curls that are often tied back out of their face. Their eyes are hazel, but often obscured by sunglasses they tend to wear even indoors. Monday has an out-of-sorts style, often wearing clashing colours and patterns. Theyre knows to wear a monotone suit one day and then a neon dress the next, you never know with Monday.

Matilda 'Mattie' Carmine, 21 F

Once a Hale party girl, Mattie exchanged the glitz for textbooks after the haunting events of last year. Living elsewhere now, she's determined to leave the past behind, troubled by what she's seen on the beach. However, her ex-boyfriend Carrington persuades her to return for another round of the twelve days. Though reluctant and abrasive, Mattie's mission is clear: survive and lay the ghost to rest once and for all. And also give Carrington as hard of a time as possible.

Matilda is 5'7 and white. Her eyes are brown, and sharp. She's got long blonde hair that darkens at the roots, and she usually wears it out. Mattie has a resting bitch face, but when she smiles it is bright and all consuming. She has a very in-touch style, though she is practical with what she wears. She also has Carrington's last name tattooed on her ankle.

Sarah Hale, 18 F

Everest's little sister, a force to be reckoned with when she isn't glued to her phone. She wears the Hale name with pride, weaponizing it whenever possible, and has convinced Everest to let her and a friend tag along for the twelve days. In exchange, she'll talk to their parents about letting Everest return to the Hale house. A diva with a sharp tongue, Sarah sees this trip more as a vacation than a potential bloodbath. She can be a sweetheart at times, I promise.

Sarah is 5'4, with shoulder length mousy brown hair and bright green eyes. She still has braces on, and wears whatever is in fashion and most expensive at the time. People joke she never wears the same thing twice... because she doesn't.

Finley Scarsbrook, 18 F

Sarah Hales trouble magnet best friend is convinced that ghosts aren't real. She's coming along to debunk the stories of possession and necessary death, and expose the trip as an excuse to get away with murder. With her father being chief of police in Hale, she considers herself a mini-detective, and may be more hinderance than fun over the twelve days.

Finley is 5'0, and a redhead. She's covered in freckles, and has piercing blue eyes. She has her ears stretched, but no other piercings, and a tattoo of a dove she got on her 18th birthday.

Mikey Garcia, 21 M

Designated driver and self proclaimed ‘love doctor’, Mikey talks a lot to keep his class clown reputation running. He’s Matilda’s roommate, the piece of her new life that feels most like home, and has insisted on coming along to make sure she’s safe and sound. Mikeys a skeptic of all things supernatural, but swears he could survive any horror movie.

Mikey is 5’9, mexican, and has a chubbier frame. His black hair is often gelled back and out of his face. He has dark eyes and a real contagious smile. Mikey has a very casual dress style, but keeps a nice sneaker collection he always shows off. He has no tattoos.

Oh, you hopeless romantic, you. Of course they don’t go together. Love is for fun and stories and passionate nights away from your betrothed. Marriage is for financial stability and separate beds and arguing behind closed doors.

With your looks, you’ll be lucky enough to find love in one person and marriage in another. But only the rich are lucky enough to find both in the same person. And you, my dear, are far from rich. 

So, put on the clothes I set out for you and let’s be on the way. Your suitors await.

Welcome to Eldoria, a small, seaside town nestled within the land of Orielle. This quiet, fishing town works hard to keep its head above water, oh - no pun intended. But with the sudden rise of taxes and aftermath of war within the kingdom, many of its townsfolk are struggling to keep up. 

Your family included. 

Times are desperate. Otherwise, you wouldn’t think twice about attending the Lovers Ball, nicknamed Serpent's Hollow by Eldoria’s townsfolk. “You listen to me. I paid for you. You belong to no one else.”

Alastor is the first prince of Lyall, currently learning the ways of ruling a kingdom. 

Around the castle, he’s known for his brash attitude and inability to take criticism. However, there’s a quite gentle side to this arrogant prince that only a few see. 

You’ll often find him locked away in his room, pouring over future plans for the kingdom.

Hael - They/Them - 27 - Lyall Second Born

“Perhaps fate was never on our side, my love.”

Hael is the second born of Lyall. They are learning the way of ruling at a distance, and as a backup, but they have no real interest or desire in the affairs of the government. 

Around the castle, they’re known for their bright smile and helpful demeanor. 

You’ll often find them sitting around in the sun, wine in hand.

Hira - She/Her - 25 - Princess of Lyall 

“Shall I cancel the weekly payments we’re sending your family, darling? I didn’t think so.”

Hira is the Princess of Lyall, with no plans to rule. She is truly the last resort. 

Though she has no plans to lead, that doesn’t stop her from working within the town. Being known as the “unseen princess” among the townsfolk makes her job as the town’s librarian a breeze.

She belongs to the Seers of Lyall, a coven within the kingdom who work closely with the royal family.  

She’s often seen practicing her craft by the lake behind her coven’s manor. She is visibly at peace while working near or with water.

Killian owns the Mystic Goblet located in the heart of Lyall. 

He’s known around town for wooing those who come into his tavern, but never letting them get close enough to know him. 

You’ll often find him out and about in the town, helping the other store owners make deliveries and keep their doors open.

Morana has a complicated history; however, she doesn’t let those messy memories stop her from performing her job at the highest ability. 

She’s known among her crew for placing others above herself and her devout loyalty to the royal family. 

You’ll often see her in Killian’s tavern when she’s home.

Nevan - He/Him - 28 - Hired Sword Priest’s Right Hand

“Such dirty desires in this sacred place?”

Nevan is a hired sword of the royal family, currently posing as the priest’s right hand. He’s quickly learning the church has secrets darker than he could imagine. 

He’s known for his reserved demeanor within the church’s four walls. However, you know there’s someone dangerous lurking beneath the surface with him. 

You’ll often find him in the town's community garden with a novel in hand.
