This is really important, though it doesn’t do much to show how lower income people would be affected. If you barely make enough for rent, you can’t really buy sustainable clothes. You’re forced through your own oppression to oppress others.
I understand your point, but buying second hand fashion is also slow fashion in my opinion. There are so many ways to get affordable clothes or even trade garments with friends or people online. You have a big range of options!
second hand usually requires resources like time, transportation (at our poorest i did not live within walking distance of one) and for a lot of people, frankly, a sense of creativity. like, if you’re poor, and you have about half an hour of time and energy to look around for a new collared white shirt for your job interview tomorrow, you have a guarantee of finding what you need within your abilities at a reliable price and location if you go to something like h&m. finding what you need and want and in the right size at a thrift store is going to take way more time and thought than that. personal style is a luxury and leisure activity. just trying to look presentable enough for society without having to do a lot of extra work is the reality for a lot of people shopping at high street stores.
You are right! Personal style is definitely a privilege and luxury. I understand that it’s definitely not possible for every person to buy slow fashion.
