Sailor Moon Crystal - Episode 17

Until that first shot there, it had never hit me that SMC’s Endymion’s design was visibly linked to King Endymion’s. Nicely done.

This is one of those little moments that I’ve always really, really loved about the manga, how the Sailor Soldiers had actual connections with their elements beyond just associations and using them in attacks. Ami focusing on the sound of the water, able to pinpoint where the pipe is broken, when it’s not about being in her Soldier form, but her everyday civilian one.  It’s full of such potential! Like, I love that every incarnation has her fond of water, that she enjoys swimming and feels an affinity for it, but seeing her able to actually do something with it, a way to help people or just to feel that water in her normal life, it brings to mind all sorts of other possibilities that she might be able to do. Naoko’s world both fascinates and frustrates me, because there’s actually some really amazing worldbuilding stuff she set up, it’s just that there’s not really time (or focus) to do much with it, and so these little bits and pieces of it are fantastic, even as I want MORE MORE MORE, TELL ME WHAT ELSE AMI CAN DO WITH HER CONNECTION TO THE WATER.

OH MY GOD AMI IS BRINGING SUCH ADORABLENESS AND SUCH PRETTINESS IN THIS EPISODE I ALWAYS LOVE HER OF COURSE AND SHE’S ALWAYS ADORABLE BUT SMC HAS REALLY MADE ME APPRECIATE JUST HOW PRETTY SHE CAN BE, ESPECIALLY WITH THOSE BEAUTIFUL BLUE EYES

Ami can dowse using her water powers! I think that this is Manga/Crystal only; at least I don’t remember it in the 90s anime or PGSM. I’m super happy that they kept this in here. Now two of the girls have powers outside their senshi forms.

This is warm fuzzy awesome. Ami is feeling sad and terrified and lost, so Usagi is going to cheer her on, crowd etiquette or no.

Then Ami kicks butt. And Usagi, precious Usagi, is both clueless (adorable) and ecstatic for her friend.
