her fingers intertwined with his for a brief moment, before shane slowly rose from his seat and grabbed his baseball cap, which usually meant that he was going out to work. wanda didnβt blame him for wanting to help outside, because under different circumstances, she would have done the same and followed him to pick up the pieces of last night. given she was about to have a baby, the best she could do was clean around the house and make sure hope was out of the way of everyone working.Β βdonβt worry, weβll be absolutely fine here. just do what you have toβ, she ensured shane and gave him a last kiss, before she walked him to the door and watched him leave. hope came running over to shane and briefly hugged his leg, before returning to playing with the other younger kids.
while shane was out, wanda cleaned up the remaining blood stains upstairs from the previous night and was determined to repair their door. it wasnβt entirely broken, just the glass was shattered and the wood splintered in some places, but she found some wood outside that she just used to nail it over all the broken areas. not pretty, but the best they could do for the time being. as long as it closed and no one could just crawl through the cracks, it would do. it took her a while, but once she was finished, it looked sturdier and better than expected. one less thing for shane to worry about.
around noon, when hope was down for a nap, wanda made some sandwiches and cold tea for shane and the other workers outside, guessing that they were all hungry and thirsty. she also washed and cut up some fruits and vegetables, just so they could have snacks. asking one of the neighbor girls to watch hope in case the little one woke up, she carried two big baskets filled down to the fence, where she had spotted shane from a distance. it was hot outside and wanda was sweating immediately, grateful that their house was much colder.Β βheyβ, she called out to shane and smiled, setting down the baskets in the shade of a tree.Β βi brough you something to drink and eat. howβs it going?β
to say there were some choice words said and plenty of argument would be ... well an understatement honestly. no one was getting along per say, blame games a foot and no one seeming to own up to the fact that this breach happened and no one noticed had shane frustrated beyond belief. own up to this shit, sure as hell wasnβt him and it wasnβt like that person was gonna be killed for their incompetent nature, it was just to understand what problems really needed the fixing here. couldnβt fix the leaks and problems without knowing exactly what they were first which was all he was asking. guess it seemed people were still pretty uneased by him and all he could end up doing was turning to rick with a look on his face that said, get them to talk then.Β
β look man we need to know, fixing this fence is step one, fixing the guarding issues or whatever break down happened last night we need to do that next, they ainβt gonna talk to me iβll back off man but donβt be soft neither, man. this shit got one killed last night, it got close to hope and wanda man, you got carl and judith. i mean...β followed by aΒ β yeah youβre right i know. iβll talk to them. β that only made shaneβs head shake because it was the best heβd get.Β
as if knowing he needed to give rick time to talk to these guys he turned hearing wandaβs voice and a sigh escaped him as he moved towards her,Β β youβre suppose to be takinβ an easy, i donβt care how old fashion that is, youβre pregnant, we donβt exactly have hospitals if you strain anything. β he added pointedly. he turned and looked back towards rick,Β β trying to figure out where the breakdown, and how a walker got that far inside before anyone noticed is proven .....difficult. β he grunted as he looked back to her,Β β thanks for that though... β he added as he gave a faint smile.Β
