On April 8 we celebrate the death of Margaret Thatcher, and remember all the lives she destroyed.
July 25, 2024 - This week we celebrate the life of Cathy Rutherford, the amazingly fierce lady with the umbrella in the video above. Your hatred for Thatcher and refusal to be nice about it genuinely remains an inspiration 🫡 [link]
Ohhhh that is too much for you little spider…
Ohhh nooo…
When BoJack Horseman (2014-2020) said "you can't keep doing shitty things and then feel bad about yourself like that makes it ok. you need to be better" and "all we have are the connections we make" and "I really should've thought about the view from halfway down" and "sometimes you have to take responsibility for your own happiness" and "you do the hokey pokey and you turn yourself around, you turn yourself around, THAT'S what it's all about" and "things have to get worse before they can get better" and "in real life, the big gesture isn't enough, you need to be consistent" and "if we hadn't met each other until now, we wouldn't be the people we are now" and, my personal favourite, "every day it gets a little easier, but you gotta do it every day, that's the hard part, but it does get easier".

i had a dream last night that the entire world used a currency (?) called angrypennies which as the name implies are obtained by experiencing anger. the stronger and more intense your anger was, the more angrypennies you'd gain. an all-consuming rage would earn you more than a slight irritation, etc. so people were always searching for ways to fuel their anger and purposefully keeping themselves angry all the time because they wanted to earn angrypennies. unclear if angrypennies could be exchanged for goods and services, or if they were just a collectible.
anyway, as if this wasn't heavy-handed enough, at one point british comedian greg davies appeared and explained that angrypennies couldn't be worth feeling angry all the time. this was a real revelation to dream-me and i was finally able to break free of the angrypenny grind and allow myself to experience emotions other than anger.
Hey. If people aren't aware, Microsoft admitted they know who you and where you are at all times and will give your info to the police.
They have a Global Device Identifier (GDID) Tracker that functions as a fingerprint for your PC that can surpass VPNs, proxy servers and countries. Although it can't survive a clean reinstall of Windows (it can survive updates), because Microsoft forces you to go to the internet and log in into a Microsoft account, they will be able to get to you.
Microsoft kept it secret and it was only found out when the FBI tracked a hacker thanks to the information Microsoft gave them.
You should be paying attention to this, and possibly consider moving away from Windows. If a government, especially the US government, doesn't like you for some reason, this could be seriously concerning.
This article specifically notes:
For journalism, activism, or domestic abuse situations, skip Windows and use Linux routed through Tor instead of a commercial VPN. A GDID doesn’t care which VPN you use, only that it’s still the same Windows installation.
GDID is the persistent Windows ID that helped FBI trace a Scattered Spider hacker despite VPNs. Here's how it works and how to limit it.
Other important quotes:
What has researchers uneasy is everything else the case reveals. Costin Raiu, a well-known malware researcher, asked on the Three Buddy Problem podcast how much of this exists on other platforms, and whether it is linked more permanently to hardware. Matthew Hickey, another security researcher, called Windows “surveillance software”.
Two things back that up:
There’s no consent screen. A GDID gets assigned when you sign into a Microsoft Account. Apple’s advertising identifier needs an App Tracking Transparency prompt and a visible reset; Android’s works the same way. GDID has neither, and a Windows reinstall only gets you a new number Microsoft can still get back to the same account.
Then there’s activation. Massgrave, the group behind Microsoft Activation Scripts, notes that Windows setup sends hardware info to Microsoft and gets identifiers back, the same tokens later used for Store access and licensing: “It’s impossible to prevent Windows from getting a GDID without breaking activation and UWP app[s].” Anyone who lost a license after swapping a motherboard has already met a smaller version of this.
phm is decently popular in japan and i mostly see this when i check twitter and see accounts posting pictures of handmade rocky plushies that are so fucking round looking it brings a tear to my eye
he keeps me sane
btw, idk if this will be seen by any of the countless people who already have seen and reblogged this post, but heres the original guide posted on how to make the chibi-rocky! the OP also has a separate guide for a more accurate rocky, though obviously less simple of a guide than the little thingy shown off
(im surprised this post gained any attention, haha, if i had known i would have just shared the guides, the more handmade pebbles in the world the better)

Honestly, probably the best social tip I could ever give you guys is literally just ask. Need to make a doctor's appointment but don't know how? Call the doctor's office and ask. Don't know the meaning of what someone said? Ask them. Don't understand the instructions you were given? Ask them to repeat or clarify. This has literally never failed me, no one's gotten angry, no one's refused to answer.
Even in situations where you think it might not work, I once accidentally missed a deadline to accept a job offer, so I called and asked if they could reset it and they did. Just today I called a doctor and asked how to schedule an appointment, the lady told me how, and then I did it. Didn't know if someone was being sarcastic or not, so I asked and they told me. Just ask.
Maybe lean out
My wife pointed out to me the other day that apparently most people were literally only taught how to say Sorry and not how to Apologize or even that they are different things so here.
If all you ever do is step 1, not only did you not apologize, but people will rightfully stop believing you and start getting pissed or hurt.
This is a decent framework. My only advice is that if you don't actually know what you did wrong, or how it made the other person feel, let yourself show some vulnerability by asking what you did wrong and how it's feeling for them while admitting you're trying to take responsibility.
On top of that, even if you're observant the information won't always be as clear as this example, so just keep an open mind and open heart. People that want to be heard and let you try for them, will let you hear them.
When there's a lack of knowledge, have the decency of speaking up in a way that shows you're ready to listen and learn, give people the room to speak. So you can follow through with step 4, with good faith. As long as you're trying to create safety for them, step 4 will continue to actually mean something.
There's nothing wrong with being wrong, but, there's everything wrong with pretending otherwise. Growth is always uncomfortable and like it says above it takes courage but you'll feel better afterwards.

It can also be found on Google Drive here and on Bluesky here.
Please save and share this info where possible. This report has since been removed by Amnesty International due to legal threats of libel from JK Rowling. This information is no longer easily accessible.

"I can't believe humans would hunt the thylacine to extinction, humans are fundamentally evil" Hey, did you know that extinction was long thought to be impossible, and within 50 years of humans realizing that extinction via overhunting was a possibility it practically stopped happening? Did you know that humans are so desperate to prevent more losses that they're funneling millions of collective hours and billions of euros into helping other species? Hours and euros that could be spent on humans, being spent on species on whom humanity's own survival does not depend? Did you know that due to an accidental introduction of rats, the Lord Howe Island stick insect population was brought down to 24 individuals and now there are tens of thousands of them?
This bug. This bug that, to most humans, is utterly useless, relatively gross, and completely foreign. Humans saved it because humans do not want to cause another extinction ever again if they can avoid it.
cannot understate the value of turning a few no-thought-required chores into your idle animation. I am wandering around in aimless restless need, unsure what kind of stimulation I crave, compelled to seek it out and yet unsatisfied by all that I attempt? ok I can do that while I put the dishes away. or fold some laundry. recently I was able to add 'washing the dishes' to the list and it's been a game changer. I can settle into the physical motion and very low-level mental requirements of doing the chore, and the rest of my brain can turn over the problem of What Should I Do Next. eventually I think of something I could try doing instead, and by the time I do I've folded three shirts and half my underwear. and these are all chores I can drop almost at once (except washing dishes, I don't like to leave the soapy dishes out, but rinsing is mostly quick). so as soon as I want to not be doing this anymore, I just stop!
crucially this is not an 'if you can lean you can clean' thing! I am doing these tasks to keep my hands busy. keeping my hands busy frees up brain space to actually make a rational decision about what I should spend my energy on, because it scratches the restless screaming itch in my skin to DO SOMETHING RIGHT NOW (normal relatable content teehee we've all got bees in our bones right?)
as a bonus it also quiets the voice that complains I never do anything worthwhile etc etc, and it also makes me feel better later in a mysterious inexplicable way (since nicer living space => better mental health, in a mechanism that I'm intellectually aware of but regularly forget in practice)
I don't have a clear guide for How To Do This, but a huge part of the end goal and something one could try working on idk is mentally turning the chore into "a thing I do while I'm really doing other stuff." this may work best if you already have a few activities in that category - I like to knit while I watch TV, sew while I'm chatting with people, etc - but the key component is that the dishes are not The Activity. the dishes are what your hands are doing while your brain is occupied with The Activity. you get in the habit of expending like .5% of a thought on the dishes, which includes not thinking any thoughts like "ugh ugh I hate doing the dishes." you have better things you could do with that brainpower!
maybe a good way to practice is turn on a podcast or youtube video while you do the chore. or maybe call a friend and chat all the way through! get used to doing the chore while your mind is fully just elsewhere.
another one is probably making sure the chore requires minimal effort + time to start and to stop. for me Folding Laundry is no longer a thing with a start and stop, I just leave the hamper of clean clothes out and I fold a shirt whenever I walk by until the whole thing is empty. it takes the time it takes ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ the moment you have to do Setup Activities before you can commence the chore, the chore becomes a whole Thing and you suddenly have to engage executive function on purpose to do it, instead of having it be something your hands can randomly pick up without you having to think about it.
