I know you said no criticism about the Hammerhedgeanvil poet, soldier, king triad post, but I actually don't think this os criticism. I just think that actually there's no wrong way to put those three in that dynamic. I really think you could make a case for them being any way round.
(And I really do love which way round ypu have them, you know I do)
(the no criticism thing was mostly a joke 😂😅 all are welcome in my asks about anything at any time, but especially about akotsk right now)
So when I tell you I stared at that post for like 5 minutes trying to decide which was which I am not over exaggerating, I had thoughts!
My initial instinct was that Baelor as king, Maekar as soldier, and Dunk as poet.
Baelor who would have been a great king, had he but lived. Maekar the warrior, even onto his own downfall, even onto Baelor in the end. Dunk with his love for life, who stumbled over his words, but is so sincere and full of heart. What else could they be.
But then I thought of Baelor Breakspear, hero of redgrass, of course he could be the soldier. Maekar who learns to measure his words, offers a gentleness in his speech even when he is still his abrasive self, so full of grief, yes there's something of a poet in him. And Dunk, Dunk the kingmaker, the king defender, Dunk who roams the realm and serves the realm and defends the realm and perhaps guides the realm through the king that he raised. Yes maybe he could be the king.
But in the end, who could Dunk be but who he was, sworn sword and knight and kingsgaurd. The soldier Dunk had to be. Who could Baelor be but the poet, with his sweet, careful words and gentle voice and his love for the stories and the songs. Who saw the stories they would tell of that day and rose to the occasion. And Maekar, oh Maekar, First and Last of his name, King of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms and Protector of the Realm. King and kinslayer, it never should have been him. It was always going to be him. Who else could it be.
Hii! So i had this fic idea for a few months but i don't think I am going to write it so I just wanted to tell someone maybe someone will be inspired to write it however they want. I also imagine this taking place in the omegaverse 🥲. It's not baekar but it can be but also a trigger warning because it contains CSA experienced by two beloved characters.
When Maekar is little, a man-at-arms takes advantage of him. Maekar was neglected by his parents and overlooked and he did not have many caretakers so the man found it easy and befriended him before hurting him. Maekar never told anyone because that man threatened to hurt Rhaegel and since Maekar was not close with his parents he thought he wouldn't be believed. That man later died during the Blackfyre rebellion fighting under Daeron so he was hailed as a martyr. Only Dyanna and Rhaegel and Brynden and Shiera knew the truth (the latter two may or may not have had something to do with the man's death).
Years later poor Egg is hurt by the High Septon. It's during the time he is a cupbearer for the Small Council and before Ashford. Maekar is at Summerhall and Egg tells Baelor and his grandparents. But Egg is a known liar (canon) and they don't believe him and he does not tell Maekar because he thinks that Maekar won't believe him either. Dunk is the only person he tells and due to miscommunication Dunk thinks that Maekar knew and did nothing. He confronts Maekar and Maekar is like "what?" And Dunk realises that Maekar does not know and is horrified that he accidentally betrayed Egg's trust.
Maekar is horrified and heartbroken that he failed to protect his son. And his sweet son had to face the horror he faced and wishes no one had to face let alone his son. Also it's implied that Maekar has a complicated relationship with the Faith and yet has approached the High Septon for help so that's an even bigger betrayal.
Maekar talks to Egg and makes him tell him everything. Then he hugs his little boy and cries which scared Egg because his father doesn't cry and both of them are crying. Maekar is apologising for not knowing. And promises to make it up but Egg begs him not to do anything because the conflict with the Faith is dangerous.
One night Maekar approaches Dunk in disguise and asks him to follow him and Dunk obeys but is confused as they move through the alleys of King's Landing in disguise and it's only the two of them. They approach the Great Sept of Baelor.
Maekar knows where the private chambers of the High Septon are and so he goes there and orders Dunk to keep watch. Maekar tortures the High Septon for hours and then lights the room on fire to make it seem like an accident. He trusts Dunk because he knows Dunk also wanted to hurt that man.
Egg learns of the fire and the death of the High Septon. When Maekar and Egg later see each other Egg looks relieved and grateful and hugs Maekar and cries again because he finally feels safe now. Later that night Maekar cries as well because it does not feel enough because he still failed to protect his son, and also because Egg had told someone he had told Baelor, Daeron ii and Myriah and was not believed and that destroys Maekar's trust in them even though they are dead at this point. Because it means that if he had told them about what that man at arms, which is a martyr had done to him they would not have believed him.
Another version is where Baelor, Daeron and Myriah live a few more years. Great Spring Sickness happens and Valarr and Matarys are dead. Baelor is resentful of Maekar for the blow because Baelor's body is no longer the same and he struggles to control his body and is in pain. Maekar takes every criticism Baelor makes or every cruel thing he says because Maekar believes he deserves it and grief has sharpened his words even more. Daeron and Myriah are also distant with him, they were never close but after this they are even more distant.
The news of the High Septon's death reaches them and Maekar confesses to them what he did. They are horrified, they knew Maekar was a good warrior but they did not know Maekar was capable of torture. They ask how he can be so sure that Egg was not lying and Maekar is like "I know he is not lying because he is my son and also because..." Then he tells them what the man at arms did. They are heartbroken and angry and so devastated, of course they would have believed him. They are so guilty that Maekar did not trust them. And the man at arms is dead so they won't even get the satisfaction of revenge. It also has a "happy" ending where they all heal together, they help Maekar and Egg heal from the trauma they endured. And Egg finds it in his heart to forgive his grandparents and uncle and Maekar is parents and brother.
But also imagine a sprinkle of Baekar here? Baelor is afraid to touch Maekar because they have been so distant and because he is worried he will trigger something 😭. Also even better if they are falling in love after being widowed. So Baelor was a brother first and a lover later, imagine the guilt he must go through. He could not protect Maekar as a brother, how could he protect him as a husband? He could not protect Egg as an Uncle and Crown Prince, how can he protect him as another parent? When Baelor expresses his worries Maekar only tells him to just hold him and they start to heal their fractured relationship 🥲.
I am sorry for the long ask. I hope it isn't too dark 😭 I am so sorry if it is.
I was too stunned to speak after the first read
the part about Egg and Septon made me think about this document about polish priests taking advantage of kids and how it was hidden by the Church, it's free to watch on YouTube -> here
moving back to the ask
it's such a great idea, even if the whole story is painful, I LOVE the part about Maekar and Dunk joining forces here, a very underrated trope tbh, they really could be scheming together after working through initial resentment
and Maekar knowing that his abuser is now glorified as a war hero so now no one will believe him, that's truly awful
and the way Egg and Maekar finally bond with each other but over something terrible that happened to them, something that should be condemned and punished not brushed off
the Baekar part is also so interesting, Baelor going through so many mixed feelings, he doesn't let in the thought that everyone has failed both Egg and Maekar, he only sees his own fault because he spent years calling Maekar his sweetling, caring for him, taking him everywhere like a toy...
and yet somehow he let a vile man sneak into Maekar’s inner circle and hurt him, and somehow Maekar didn’t trust Baelor enough to tell him about it
I support Baelor's suffering just because. he didn't do anything to me, he's a fun guy, I just want him to go through labirynth if his own mixed emotions
anyway, a very interesting idea, dear Anon, you're always welcome to share your thoughts, no matter how long they will be 🩷
I’ve seen posts/tweets saying Maekar sees his children as an extension of himself but I don’t think that’s true I think Maekar sees them as an extension of Dyanna. It explains why he doesn’t want Aemon going to the Citadel, why (in the book) he’s initially reluctant to let Egg go and why the first thing he does as King is summon all of his sons to court. They are the last living remnants Maekar has of Dyanna and he needs them close by. It also explains why Maekar in The Hedge Knight refuses to believe that Daeron and Aerion are in the wrong. They’re Dyanna’s children surely they wouldn’t lie?
I was thinking about Baelor grooming Maekar but facing consequences. I don't think there are fics where Baelor experiences any comeuppance for grooming Maekar but it's so interesting to think about. Because it's perfect Baelor nobody actually expects him to do something so vile. (Think of it in omegaverse)
Maybe Rhaegel is the first one to notice but he is dismissed when he raises concerns. He talks to Maekar who does not tell him anything because he is told it's to be a secret and he also feels ashamed even if he loves Baelor. Maekar probably starts to get disillusioned after Baelor's wedding to Jena because Baelor had promised Maekar that they would marry and Baelor still kept coming into Maekar's rooms after the wedding.
Maekar sees the children the age he was when it first started and sees how small they actually are and starts to feel sick. He develops a friendship with Dyanna Dayne who is a alpha niece of one of his mother's ladies in waiting. Baelor is jealous and Maekar notices the hypocrisy.
The more Maekar realises the sicker he feels and on the eve of their bethrothal, Maekar feels so dirty and that he cries and confesses to Dyanna who is horrified and comforts him and assures him that she still loves him. From that day onwards she places herself between Maekar and Baelor. Maekar finally tells Rhaegel, who cries because he was hoping so badly that he was wrong and he is sorry he could not protect him. They don't tell Myriah and Daeron because they are certain they won't be believed.
Baelor is devastated but also angry at Rhaegel and Dyanna for "stealing" Maekar. Maekar and Dyanna immediately left for Summerhall after being granted it. They only returned occasionally on official business. Then Dyanna gets sick and passes away but before passing away she tells Daeron everything and makes him promise that he will protect his father from Baelor, the children do not know Baelor that well, they know only Valarr and Matarys.
Maybe the Trial of Ashford still happens and Baelor dies and Daeron ii and Myriah blame Maekar but Rhaegel jumps to his defense and spills the beans. "Even if it was on purpose, i would not have blamed him, in fact i would have given him my blessings". Daeron ii and Myriah want to deny it but one look at Maekar's face tells them that it's true 😭.
Even better if Baelor is alive they won't be able to look at him. They can't do anything publicly without ruining his reputation so they don't but privately everyone condemns him. It's Aerys' reaction that surprises everyone, he seems to not care about anyone but the moment Baelor is fully healed he jumps on Baelor and hits him over and over again and breaks Baelor's nose. Aerys is crying at the end saying "how could you?" 😭.
Baelor's children also avoid him because they are disgusted with his actions. Baelor has started feeling remorse the moment Valarr had turned the age Maekar was when it started but now he was facing the consequences. It would be so interesting to read a fic like this but unfortunately I am a bad writer 😭. What do you think about it?
oh this is so evil, amazing job, dear Anon 🩷
Rhaegel being the first to notice something wrong has been going on, I just love when people write him and Maekar being close
and the fact that Baelor didn’t take Maekar as his bethroted, his partner, but kept him as some kind of a mistress, a shameful secret, it's like a stab to the heart
and the way it's thanks to Dyanna that Maekar finally, finally sees what his older brother has been doing to him? and Dyanna who steps up, doing all she can to protect Maekar even when on her death bed, it's so good
also, the way they definitely decided to keep their kids away from Baelor, just because you never know what's been going on in his head, because what if he tries anything with them?
and Rhaegel defending Maekar from their parents? HELL YEAH
and the awful thought here is, the Kingdom will remember the great and honorable Baelor Targaryen while behind the close doors family will remember an evil man
love the Aerys part, if you actually cause him to, well, do anything, you know how bad you fucked up
and the ending??? brilliant, let Baelor burn in this hell he build himself every single time he's looking at his sons, because all of the sudden things you've been doing aren't so fun, huh?
once again, amazing idea, dear Anon and I agree, we need more of fics like that because, listen, there's so many possibilities here, so many evil things you can do to Baelor so he'll face consequences...

Omg I was also thinking about Maekar kneeling as he thanks Baelor but was worried that maybe it was too much so i did not mention it here! Maekar staying at the Red Keep would be so good 😭 I imagine that Maekar is allowed to meet in private with his son once a week so he sees how their condition worsens each week. And you are right it's his son who pays whenever Maekar tries to fight 😭.
He is mute because that's the only way he can keep his son safe. I imagine when the labour goes wrong he would actually try to fight the guards to get to his boy. That will break Baelor out of it, because in front of him his nephew is dying giving him a child and behind him he can hear his brother cursing at the guards to let him in 😭.
Oh if Daeron is alive and he goes to see Maekar, it would be like looking at a mirror because Maekar has aged so much in such a short time 😭. And he is so weak and even Daeron has never seen his youngest son like this because whenever he thinks of his youngest he thinks of a warrior. Daeron feels so guilty, he can't look at Baelor anymore and he wishes he had done more but it's too late. What do you think about protective Maekarlings? Do you have general headcanons of them being protective? 🥹
oh I love this so much, dear Anon
the mute Maekar part??? amazing idea, and the fact that it's his voice that partially snaps Baelor out of his hatred??? brilliant
and Daeron II coming to see what has been silently going on in his own castle!!! another great take
as for protective maekarlings, I have a few thoughts, tho not about everyone, what a girl can do 😭
so judging by the way he moved in Ashford, Aerion would act violent but in a somehow not that dumb way? like, he's manipulating the situation because he's evil? but this time he's using his evil powers to protect Maekar?
I think the one to surprise everyone by suddenly acting is Daeron. he's going full cryptid mode, putting his dreams to good use? he's going to haunt Baelor okay 😭 because I would shit myself if I woke up in the middle of the night to see some strange figure whispering about mad stuff that will happen to me, let's leave it like this
then there's Rhae and her potions, basically explosive diarrhea for everyone who made her dad suffer
and I think Egg would be the one to have a lot of mixed feelings about the whole situation? since his relationship with Maekar is rocky, I think it would be strange for him to even imagine his dad being so weak? but when he returns to see the situation at the Keep, I also think he would stay by his side, or maybe even go and try to confront Baelor himself? imagine a small, puny Egg vs a grown ass man
as for all of them in general, I think they're like wolves or dogs? they're a pack that will surround and guard the one that's been harmed? even if sometimes a bit unwillingly because they're still siblings arguing with each other half the time. but yeah, they would be able to unite when it matters?
a lot of baelor's life is regimented/controlled; he who is heir to the iron throne is the one with the least agency. he was born, raised, studied and trained for a role predetermined for him, while his younger siblings could wander the hall or bury their noses in their books however they like. his marriage wasn't by choice either, it was arranged for him. even as hand, he had to remain an agreeable facade lest someone throw xenophobic remarks at him. without a dragon, the absence of a crown weighed heavily on him at a young age.
then came maekar; who was brilliant but didn't care to tolerate bs, who had enough freedom to marry a dornish wife despite the court's racist tendencies, to curse up a storm in front of lords, to take up arms and follow baelor because he WANTED to. and he must have been like the sun through the tiny window in baelor's prison.
maekar was the mess that baelor needed, wanted, desired even. the only uncontrollable thing baelor was allowed.
the septons say we must love our brothers - but it is never as easy as to just listen and follow the words of others. baelor loved his brother because his brother loved him too.
Maybe Maekar has chronic pain from Redgrass... maybe that's why he makes those fuckass Noises... maybe it got worse after Dyanna died... maybe the trial reignited a hundred old wounds but he never sought treatment to punish himself for killing Baelor... maybe he understands why Daeron drinks to take away the mental pain but also despises him because Maekar never resorted to drink... maybe seeing Aerion brutalised at Ashford ignited a trauma buried deep and then made raw all over again...
my hottest hc which is probably a lukewarm take is that I think maekar is exactly like myriah, which is why he is daeron’s favorite child (though aerys is a close second because they have so much in common and talk a lot); rhaegel spends the most time with myriah so he is her favorite. baelor has replaced his personality with the crown’s goals so he is definitely both their easiest and most successful child but is none of their favorites. he does not care about this and is coincidentally a consummate liar.
https://www.tumblr.com/fineiguessimintowhump/821648408489132032?source=share
Omg, imagine this but with Maekar 🥹. He is taken hostage by someone and the random demand is too much (a part of the kingdom or war galleys or stuff like that) and besides if they pay it the crown will look weak. Even if Daeron wants to pay it he literally can't because it will cause more problems. So Maekar is tortured until the demand is fullfilled but it's not like the crown is not doing anything, they are looking for him discreetly with Baelor leading. And when Maekar is found he loses trust in everyone even Baelor because he is traumatized by being tortured both emotionally and physically and he thinks no one loves him or cares for him even if the logical part of him knows the random demand was ridiculous. It's about healing 😭. Ooh even better if Maekar was married and already has children so he is worried for his children as well, the kidnappers probably tell him they have his children and they will hurt them unless he chooses to take their torture as well and of course Maekar does 🥲. What do you think? Do you have any ideas? I would really love to hear them.
link to the post -> here
first of all, it's so painful, what the hell 😭 but also, your vision is so good, dear Anon, I'm lowkey charmed
what I wanna say is, let's dive into the psychological burden of it all
because Maekar thinks himself as somewhat battle-hardened, tough man, able to take the physical pain, at least until some level???
but then his kidnappers start saying things that are low hits but mixed with exhaustion, pain, the fact of being locked up in a small cell God knows where, it's all hitting (let's assume it's someone who observed the family and their dynamics)
and slowly, Maekar really starts to believe that he's really expendable, because if it was any of his brothers, they wouldn't be left alone like that, right? he's not needed, God, he probably wasn't even wanted, so what's the point?
as for the kids part, imagine if this was set after the Blackfyre Rebellion, so he's abducted by Blackfyre loyalists who were hiding in plain sight, right in the Red Keep, posing as servants
at some point, Maekar doesn't even care if he'll be killed, all he can think of is Dyanna and their two little sons who he left behind, who were supposed to be protected in King's Landing right with the rest of the family. and if they're also in the custody of the kidnappers? two little scared boys, forced to look at some strange men torturing their father (why did I think of Blood & Cheese from F&B? but imagine if either Maekar takes it or one of his boys gets slashed)
love how Baelor’s the one who tried to recover his sweetling from the kidnappers 🥹
imagine the aftermath, the thin, tired Maekar who was already on his way back to the capital, with only a horse and clothes on his back, who met Baelor halfway through, who refused to stay at the Keep and rest there. he was so hurt by the thought that his family didn't care that he instantly went back to Summerhall, isolating himself from almost everyone, never talking to Dyanna about what actually happened to him, so scared of feeling vulnerable because that would make him weak, that would let others hurt him again

https://www.tumblr.com/svans0ng/822691862925180929/hear-me-out-baekar-modern-au-but-baelor-is?source=share
Hahahah this is so good! How do Daeron and Myriah feel about Baelor being an anti-vaxxer? Like they vaccinated Baelor so certainly they are not anti-vaxxers themselves. Idk why I feel like modern Daeron and Myriah had a reward system where they would give their boys chocolates when they did something right or got good grades, so they imagine them giving adult Maekar some chocolates after they learn what he did 💀
that's the one thing Baelor had disappointed them at 😭
when it first came up they kinda nodded along, thinking it was just a phase. they also didn't notice anything weird about Jena and her wellness journey. Baelor and Jena were such a good match that it made everyone around ignore the red flags
but then they had kids and both Myriah and Daeron started wondering if their son was abducted by the aliens or something because they DID NOT raise a man who's believing that vaccine is actually a way to take control over the world made up by the illuminati
sometimes they're just embarrassed and exhausted when Baelor's on yet another rant about why he would NEVER vaccinate his dear sons, while Valarr and Matarys sit there looking like sick victorian children. they just pray Baelor never speaks up about it during any important public event because that would be beyond fixing
at some point Myriah recalls an incident of Baelor getting hit on the head back in school and that's enough for Daeron to put a blame on that situation. if anyone asks, Baelor is such a great guy who's struggling because of the incident 💔
love the part about Myriah and Daeron giving their sons treats when they do well 😭 kinda like I do with my dog although his treats are something between carrots and snakes so... ANYWAY yeah, a great idea, imagine a grown ass Maekar with a very smug smile because he got a reward from his parents, take that Baelor!!!
Lmfao modern Maekar can’t manage to get them sneak vaccinated so they get the spring sickness and die… lmao almond mom that jena. Rip to the young prince and the even younger prince. Baelor should have “microchipped” his kids. He WILL be microchipping the ones get gets on Maekar
not Valarr and Matarys just fucking dying 😭
I mean, yeah, Maekar ain't having an unvaccinated kid, he's got some standards
and ig he can always send Baelor to sleep on the couch or the porch until he stops being an idiot...
Speaking of Maekarlings vs Baelorlings, everyone being all judgmental about the Maekarlings being chaotic and the Baelorlings being prim and proper until the day Valarr goes to his dad like uh. So. Haha funny story. You know how I haven't been able to get a babe on my wife? Well you're gonna be a grandpa at last. Bc Matarys is pregnant. And it's mine. Um. Oopsie
okay, that's new
legit, I don't think Valarr x Matarys was ever mentioned here?
well, at least now there's one thing Maekar can hold over Baelor's head because at least his sons weren't incestuous??? 😭
Which Baekarling is the one that kidnaps Aemon from the convent, sorry, the Citadel and elopes with him forcing their parents to accept the match? And when Baelor bitches Maekar is like oh really Mr I'd Cut Through Father's Kingsguard and Marry You In a Pool of Blood Sweetling? King Daeron is laughing bc how the turntables
I actually have a weak spot for them so, I'll say it's Matarys (let's let him have a moment of doing anything in this franchise, even a gay and incestuous one 😭)
because, listen, I think he's a cutie-patootie, Matarys is so sweet and well-behaved, nobody would ever suspect that an evil plan would appear in this ginger-mind of his, and yet here we are...
you know Shrek the Third? the scene when someone wakes up Shrek and Fiona in the middle of the night and Shrek is like "what, did someone die?" or something like that? I don't know the english version 😭
so the servants knock on baekar's door in the middle of the night, and I think Maekar is the one to say the unfortunate words, only to swallow them a second later when they find out the sweet Matarys is nowhere to be found, with only a letter left behind
they wake up the whole Keep, organising some search for the young prince, but with no use
Baelor is going through it because he has his favourites (Aerion is nowhere among them)
until a letter comes from Citadel, informing them that young prince Aemon was taken away in the middle of the night
and in that moment, Maekar knows what's going on, he's like "well they did follow in our footsteps"
Baelor is in denial, his sweet Matarys, his polite, responsible Aemon, they would NEVER
until Matarys does, in fact, send them a letter saying they're on the way to Dragonstone to elope and there's no way to stop them
Maekar is actually happy because he was devastated that Aemon got sent away to Citadel, if this way he'll have his dear boy back then let it be
love the part about Maekar ending Baelor's mad rants about this whole thing, biblically accurate, it's what GRRM would've wanted
HEAR ME OUT
baekar modern au but Baelor is anti-vaccine and Maekar is trying to talk sense into him
unvaccinated baelorlings vs vaccinated maekarlings
this cracked me up so bad 😭 a very funny idea, dear Anon, what can I say
imagine Valarr and Matarys are sent to spent summer at Summerhall (and the butter is buttery...) and one of the younger kids, Egg or Rhae, is supposed to get their annual vaccines and they're like "what's that???"
that's how Maekar finds out that his older brother apparently does not believe in vaccines because of some bullshit like idk nanobots in your system...
suddenly it all makes a lot of sense to Maekar, his nephew's were always sickly but now at least there's a reason to it (he probably does wonder how did they survive that long and is a bit impressed)
he tried to talk it out with Jena but she's some sort of an almond mom Yolanda Hadid type shi and it's no use really, she and Baelor are matching on that field, and so instead of trying to talk some sense into any of them he takes matters in his own hands, he won't let those kids suffer because their parents are idiots
so he asks Baelor if the boys can come over bc their cousins really wanted to have a sleepover or whatever, and Baelor agrees because there's nothing weird about that? but instead of a sleepover, it's Maekar taking Valarr and Matarys to finally get vaccinated... (how did he do that? idk, faked Baelor's signature? took them to a friend who wouldn't say a word and just do the deed?)
when Baelor finds out, he's devastated, yelling at Maekar, saying some more bullshit about how his sons are now microchipped etc, etc
but ultimately, they reconcile
until years later, they have a kid together (idk man, let's say it's omegaverse because I need it for the plot, or maybe they adopted okay?)
and it's the same story all over again, with Baelor sending Maekar HUNDREDS of articles about why vaccines are actually bad, how they're endangering the child by doing so, and Maekar is just fed up, so he ends it all with one argument he used years ago
which is, Baelor himself is vaccinated and look how well did he grow up.
that somehow shuts it down
can you tell I'm somehow entertained by anti-vax crowd?

I sent the swapped injury Here’s how hammeranvil can still win lol
So Maekar and Dyanna have been wed for like 15 years when she dies and by then baelor and Maekar have become brothers (regular non Targaryen brothers) again (lmfao) and after a few years pass they start getting Closer, -baelor BEEN pining but he’s not trying to put that on Maekar, and he wouldn’t use dyannas death to have Maekar back, wouldn’t think to take advantage in such a way, it wouldn’t be fair to Maekar, so he’s just been there for him, and helped with the kids, but one day they’re like together somewhere alone, and Maekar just looks at him, maybe reaches over to put his hand on the side of baelors face, stare at him for few seconds, before he lean in and rest the corner of his forehead against baelors, eyes closing as he breathe him in, settles there for a bit, before moving to wrap his arms around him, pulling away to look upon the only brother left to him, a lifetime in his eyes as he lock eyes with his brother, everything unsaid between them known in the look of both their eyes, at the same time, they lean in to taste eachother for the first time since before ashford, like no time had passed,
anyway they get together and then married, baelor finally has a queen, they rule for a couple more years and then
either they could like die together in their sleep or something in their old age or if you want to be funny and sad
The Peake uprising, and Maekar dies crushed by a rock to the head, while king baelor still rules, though whether it’s for a few more years or a couple weeks maybe the night he gets word that Maekar died, just gives up on life, he died with him, and then his body died too
oh this is so cute, dear Anon 🩷
like, hell yeah, let them grow into it, with no pressure, no one pushing them, the thought of them just realising one day, kinda naturally going for it, it's so beautiful
and then, them just dying together from old age 😭 too good to be true but yeah, that's fitting, like, never one without the other (yes that's a reference to Kindred)
and the second ending??? Maekar once again going to defend Baelor's throne just to pay the ultimate price for it, yes please, give me more??? and Baelor withering without sweetling, I mean, it's painful but also biblically accurate (it's what GRRM would've wanted (yes that's the Boys reference))

god this is making me think about what would happen if they got trapped in a time loop instead. Baelor just endlessly trying to grasp at a chance to make things up to maekar would be its own form of torment I think. And it's even worse if their first life ended with maekar taking his own life rather than dying in childbirth Maekar, desperate to prevent his marriage, might end up becoming a septa or silent sister in one loop or even running away in the next. He probably died in his first life believing no one in his family cared about him at all, so why would any of them care if he disappeared (he thinks as baelor is tearing apart the realm to find him) Maybe he even goes as far as faking his death, although that would probably trigger baelor into restarting the time loop again, not that he would know that. He probably thinks he is cursed by the gods, not realizing his big brother is behind it all. Maybe he even ends his own life again for real a few times. Maybe he fakes being sick the morning of the tourney, and baelor has to go through with his original betrothal, or maybe baelor wouldn't care at that point and reject it anyways. Maybe baelor would arrange an accident himself to escape the engagement. Perhaps he petitions for the hand of some faraway northern beta, whatever gets him furthest from his family and probably won't end in children. No matter what he does, baelor is right behind him, unable to let him go out of love and guilt. And on baelor's side, he is slowly losing his mind every loop. No matter what he does, maekar keeps slipping away from him and gods he knows he doesn't deserve him but he wants him all the same. He wants to be able to atone for his first life, to be able to love and cherish his sweetling like he should've before, to have his family again. Although, I wonder if it came down to it would he choose maekar over the children, he wouldn't want to make him feel like a broodmare like in their first life again right? He might even be terrified to have children with him, remembering how painful and taxing it was for his brother to give birth, being terrified that every new baby could be a death sentence for his brother he sacrificed so much to have back. Any kindness he bestows upon maekar would probably still be in character at this point, as he was so doting before the tourney accident, but maekar wouldn't be able to stomach it knowing how easily baelor can turn to cruelty instead. Of course, that only happens if maekar remembers their first life. If baelor had his way and maekar didn't remember, the guilt would probably eat away at him anyways. Every smile maekar gives him, every laugh, every babe, would just serve as a constant reminder of his first brother who he drove to an early grave, and how miserable he made him. And how could he even explain to his sweetling why he was so often sad, how could he tell him what happened in their first life? He would have to take it to the grave and hope this new life would be enough to atone for his sins.
oh this is so cruel but so brilliant, I love you, dear Anon, what else can I say at this point?
and the thought of Maekar, still barely a teen, trying his best to run as far as he can from Baelor, while Baelor is still fighting to fix things, to do it the right way this time, it's so great, genius thought
AND the version with only Baelor being stuck in a loop, hell yeah, he should suffer for what had he done in their first life, let him watch a happy, innocent Maekar, let him think about what had he done to him, how he killed everything Maekar ever was, burn the witch!!!
