she's like a ghost around here.

“ demigods are assholes. ” it’s neither denial nor confirmation  —  not really an answer at all. it isn’t mikayla who’s the asshole in this scenario; he was, too much of  —  himself. too forward, too harsh; borne of good intentions, but the execution could’ve been better; silas can’t deny that. this he keeps to himself, however, because exposing her isn’t what he wants; not even he could be that cruel. he spits a mouthful of blood at his feet, allows a thumb to poke and press and test his nose  —  which he promptly regrets, pain flaring beneath his eye, blinding and bright. “ fuck, ” he gasps through gritted teeth. “  … it was mikayla. i think she fucked up my cheek, too. ”

silas is numb to the ambrosia-induced fever, the needling of cartilage and bone working to repair itself; blood still crusts his nostrils and upper lip, drying brown. a single swipe of his thumb has removed some of what’s dripped onto his chin, but he remains unconcerned, a familiarity to it that renders him unable to form a reaction stronger than mild annoyance, sparing only a brief glance upwards before returning focus to his feet. “ i didn’t do anything, ” he says, tone stiff, stuffy from the blood, “ so don’t look at me like that. ”    @sabertiger·.

it’s disappointing, in some way, to hear that they’re not the problem. because if they were, then at least they could do something to try to fix it. but they don’t have any control over it if this is entirely about trini’s mom, and it only makes kim even more worried about trini. 

“how?” it’s gentle, and it’s not argumentative. she’s not going to try to comfort trini by saying ‘ maybe it won’t be so bad ‘ or any other generic form of encouragement, because she knows how she would feel if she were to bring her friends to meet her parents.  she would try not to get her hopes up, but the reality would be that her parents wouldn’t pick their heads up from their phones for long enough to even see what her friends look like  —- and that’s if they were ever home long enough to meet them. “has she met your friends before?”

“i didn’t have friends before.”  which is part of the problem, because eighteen years without friends means that june’s expectations are unreasonably high—   even higher than they usually are when it comes to her. trini knows her mother won’t think her friends live up to those expectations, either; she’ll look for the flaws in each of them and ignore everything else, the same way she does to her own daughter.
